Question about higher tier motif book

Hello everyone, I tried finding the answer by myself in game, but after couples hours of scratching my head, I decided to ask the question directly to the eso community.

So, I am a huge crafting fan, and creating my own equipment was always a huge motivation in mmorpg for me. I recently bought a Primal motif trait book, and tried to learn it... It displayed a message stating that i needed at least 6 woodworking, 6 tailoring or 6 blacksmithing to learn the trait... Thing is I have 8 + in those three skills, so is there a lvl barrier? Is it only for veteran players? Since I am only lvl 24.

Any hint, or answer would be appreciate. Thank a whole lot

The "level" that is required is the number of skill points spent in the first skill line in the crafting skill tree, the one that determines what materials you can use for crafting. "Level 6" is actually "tier 6", which means that you need to be able to craft VR1 items.

The first passive under the crafting skill tree needs to be at Level 6. Which I believe is the ability to craft VR1 to VR3 level weapons/armor. A little confusing, but getting the Metalworking passive to Level 6 probably requires getting Blacksmithing to like Level 25 or 30 or something like that.

Oh well that explain everything! Thank you very much to both of you, seem's like I'll be levelling up clothier and metalworking from lvl 9 to 25 in the next weeks .

Just so you know.. the barbaric motif will also need that level. Ancient Elf and Daedric will need it to be even higher

As others have explained, there is a min crafting material level to learn that Motif. However, once you learn it, then you can apply it to any craft line. So, you only need to build one up to L6 in material, say Blacksmithing. Then you can make Clothing or Leather or Wood.

Another note on Primal, it really benefits from using Dyes, in particular the earth tones and greens. And, every dye looks different on every material and style, so apply a few different ones to find something you like.
