Why are cats still not killable?

Yeah, you can. You get poultry meat. If you ran into some you can't kill, it's because "some are special" (they are there for the environmental effects and/or are the linchpin for the AI for that group of critters). There are some monkeys you can't kill, too; I killed a whole mess of monkeys in Grahtwood one day, but one monkey was invulnerable. Good target practice, though...

But, as to why we can't kill cats... you people obviously don't realize, IRL people don't own cats. Cats own people. They are our masters, not the other way around. Usually they tolerate us, but every now and then they arrange for one of us to disappear... so be careful what you say and suggest.

The suits at ZOS; the whole marketing department at ZOS; the management folks in the various departments at ZOS... cats; all cats. Every last one of them. Watch your posts disappear if you criticize cats.

Of course they're not going to let you kill cats in-game.

You kill a kitty, I kill you. Twice.

Nice specimen in the vid, could perhaps make an awesome hat or something of such fine game. Would probably be in high demand aswell.
Perhaps killable cats and dogs could do wonders with the ingame economy too :)

I believe there is a horse recipe so it's a bit illogical that you can't "source" the ingredient yourself. Would it come under red meat or game?

It makes no sense. We can kill monkeys in the game, and as of update 1.6 we can cook them and eat them. Yet cats, which are less intelligent and less social, are somehow immune to the fate of all other small animals in the game. Monkeys give us white meat, isn't cat the other white meat?

Less intelligent? Throw a stick away and tell your cat to fetch it. He/she will look at you and go "You throw it so you can fekin get it!"

Thinking of taking over a tavern with my ill gotten gains. As an accomplished chef I will be introducing an adventurous new line of bar snacks, think I'll call them KitBits, including: Leg of Khajiit, Khajiittail soup, Khajiit noses, Khajiit nipplechips, Khajiit sweetmeats and stuffed Khajiit paw.

That just a little taster of the culinary delights on offer, the main menu will include deep fried Argonian, shoulder of Argonian, belly of Argonian, rack of Argonian, roasted Argonian tail and Argonian Steak Pie infused with Black Briar Mead. Tasty treats indeed.

I would say the game tags all "pet" animals as invulnerable to prevent a player's pet from being killed on accident, if not for the fact that monkeys can be killed (iirc they've always been killable).

I personally wouldn't kill cats (even though they can be extremely annoying with their constant vocalizations), but I don't understand why certain animals are apparently Divines.

Try a wild bantam guar. I believe you end up with poultry from it. White meat and bananas from monkeys.

I'm fine with the cats and dogs being not killable. As long as I can kill the chittering, squeaking, Divines be damned monkeys, I'm happy.

For everyone thinking cats are stupid, consider this:

A couple decades ago I was shooting some hoops with my son in the driveway when my cat suddenly darted across my feet, jumped onto the top of the garbage can without breaking stride, jumped from there to the top of the privacy fence, scooted along the top of the fence to the neighbor's privacy fence, jumped from there to the neighbor's roof, scooted to the front of the neighbor's house, leapt to a tree branch on a tree in his front yard, and then jumped into the air seemingly at nothing...

...just in time to snatch a bird out of the air.

Consider the vector analyses required to complete that "intercept mission"... If I gave you a computer with a spreadsheet or a programming language, how long would it take you to figure it out? Do you even know the math involved? The cat does...

Would you complete the analysis in time to make the jump to grab the bird? Not even close.

Science has long known that some animal brains are evolved dramatically differently from ours; animals like cats "think" differently than we do, than dogs do, than apes do... but that doesn't make them stupid. Cats' brains are designed to support their carnivore instincts; but unlike dogs which evolved from animals that hunt in a pack (and are therefore social animals), cats are solo hunters.

I do wish, however, that my current cat would QUIT bringing me "presents"... they're always alive. Birds, mice, snakes, lizards, insects (she has this thing for junebugs)... she brings them into the house and then I've got to catch them to put them back outside while listening to my wife screaming...

She's even been trying to catch that old possum that roams across the back fence.

Now, that's love... as long as I have this cat, I'll never starve...

I think it's hilarious that this thread has become a psa for cats irl. We are talking about virtual cats that don't exist. It is curious though that most small animals and bugs are killable, why not cats too?

You know, most virtual serial killers start off with cats or other small animals. Then they progress to areas where killing other players is acceptable, like PvP. After that it's further escalation, picking up siege and killing mass numbers of other players. From there they move on to innocent NPCs, brazenly killing in towns and then posting their achievements in zone chat.

Eventually the town guards get them, but only after dozens, if not hundreds of pixilated lives are ruined. If ZoS would just make the cats killable, we would be able to find these players before their behavior escalates out of control. Shouldn't we think about the pixilated children that ZoS will make in a future DLC?

@Lord_Kreegan @JKorr Hmmm, I tried killing one in a barn, and then I was doing part of the Maulborn quest that takes you to a farm and tried to kill one there. Couldn't do it either time. I was able to kill goats at the barn, though, which made the immortal guar kinda weird.

I love cats irl and as I said, I wouldn't kill them in-game despite how annoying they can be. But it does strike me as odd that you can't kill dogs or cats. Maybe the reason you can kill everything else is because those other animals aren't normally seen as companion animals (or in the case with guar, don't even exist XD).

I understand the difference between fantasy and reality but in my fantasy I still don't kill anything that isn't trying to kill me first and see no reason why I should. I don't see any validity in excusing behavior because it isn't real nor do I accept any condescension from anyone who thinks I'm naive or otherwise defective or delusional.

My current character is a survivalist who lives off the land, spending most of his time in the wilds, he will do anything to survive.

He has seen Tamriel washed in a rising tide of blood. He has seen the dark shadow of death stalk the lands of Tamriel gathering both innocent and guilty alike in it's bloody harvest. This is a man with no past, only a name, who has only now regained his soul after a long desperate struggle. He has been the bringer of death to many and the salvation of others. This is a character forged on an anvil of blood and violence, beaten and hammered into a deadly instrument of war. He would see all animals as mere sustenance, everything would be fair game from the lowly worm to higher animals, simple protein. As a battle hardened combat veteran he would have no room for sentimentality and would make use of everything in his environment including small furry animals.

Because the creators of Tamriel loved cats soooooo much they created a race of walking/talking cats. Not dogs, or any other animal in the vast kingdom. Cats. (aside from Argonian ofc)

Why would they let you kill their cousins?
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Yet they allow a character to stab, slash, hack, bash, shoot, shock, burn and freeze and kill their beloved Khajiit ?

So it's ok to kill a sentient cat (khajiit) but not ok to kill a lesser cat. That seems morally back to front. If you can kill one variety of cat then you should be able to kill them all. Death should apply to all creatures.

You have heard of werewolves, of course? Well, beware the werecats! Beware the werelynxs and the wereocelots and the werepumas and the werelions and the weretigers and the where is the heck this post going to?

Aren't cats in the Elder Scrolls universe -- like senche -- supposed to be a diminutive form of Khajit? Like monkeys are a diminutive form of Mer? [ I just made that up.] Would you eat your cousins? Hey, I'm a red-neck, but not even I would sink that low...

We can eat monkeys in the game. They provide white meat, which goes into several recipes. I simply don't understand why reciprocity is lacking amidst the there small animals in the game.

If we really wanted to be fair.....
