Hircine's Gift too hard to complete at V12

I couldn't find any recent information about this quest, but all the bosses in the zone so far are VR12 (my level) and kill me in two hits. I am a LA Sorcerer so am wondering if I need to switch to heavy armor and move my attrib pts to health or stamina? Also I am constantly getting either the snake boss or this crocodile looking boss (starts with an M).

Any advice would be great since the werewolf debuff expires in like 3 more days

All solo instances scale to your level now.

Try switching up your build, and ensure you are dodging, blocking etc. If they are still 1 or 2 shotting you, some heavy armor might help a bit, but remember it will also affect your magicka if that's what you're using.

Look for the mammoth. Just keep trying again and again. The mammoth is slow and it is very easy to avoid pretty much all of his attacks, and beat on him from behind. It'll take some time, let it. Don't try to kill him while you're easily in the way of him killing you, just back off and take your time.

    Best of luck!

    [EDIT] Blonde moment.

Wait...how can I switch up my build? You are in Werewolf form when doing this and only have access to the first two werewolf abilities...pounce and some fear ability, and of course heavy/light attacks.

Oh man, so sorry. You are completely right. Ignore that *thinks back* I must have been in la la land.

When I did it I made sure I used blue food for my level, that gave me the buff I needed to finish it. I used it for health/stamina. You could try medium armor if you have it levelled a bit, as they will help with stamina. And bring pots, lots of pots!

all the bosses have certain mechanics, mammoth is the easiest as you only need to leave the red circles, for snake it was interrupting certain things if memory serves, for troll i suggest heavy attacks but I didnt get him since 1.6

in any case they should never ever two hit you oO if you have really ttrouble try changing all your attr points into health and using max health&stamina food

I always went for the Troll and, yes, you need to stay in motion and away from its attacks.

At first I though it was impossible to be honest. As you say, you have no weapons you are familiar with and just the light and heavy attacks and pounce, which fails to impress the Troll. In its case you just need to say out of its red circle when it pounds the ground.....give it some good whacks when it's not pounding the ground...step back....repeat...circle...and so on.

Don't back up too far or it will reset. Never knew about the mammoth but it sounds like a good bet too.

It's all a matter of motion. And it's a type of motion I wasn't used to.

I'll agree that the mammoth is easiest, but all 3 of them can be dealt with if you're good with moving, blocking, and interrupting (for the snake). Those are absolutely the keys to these fights, as you don't really have any abilities to rely on. Well, that and making sure you eat food beforehand and ideally have a lot of health and stamina from your attributes/enchants.

As has alread been mentioned, it scaled to your level. I've done the quest recently on a couple characters and everything worked just fine.

It is about knowing when to step back to avoid damage and then move in to do more damage. Basically what the entire game is about. Keep working on it. You'll get it.

I highly doubt this quest will be easy to do with light armor on. You aren't given all the werewolf skills for the quest so you don't have the self heal, you also only have stamina skills so equipping ANY medium or heavy armor will help. You aren't getting any use from your light armor.

    Here's some advice...

Put on the best armor you can, it's the only thing besides food/potions that are going to help. Yes HEAVY for chest and Legs, Reinforced.
    1. If you don't know how to "kite" well since you've been ranged (perhaps) you have to learn it now. Side step, Do not use up
stamina by roll dodging, dodge by hitting the "A" or "D", keep hitting the A or D to move in a circle.
    2. These bosses have a small "reset" circle, don't wander off too far.
When the beasties do the pound the ground, swing their tusks animation get some distance and POUNCE when they are done.
      POUNCE will stun them.
    3. You have TWO abilities, use them on the tigers in there to practice. Also on the Harpies (harder). When you need a breather use FEAR. This also places them further away so you can >>pounce.
    4. You Have a huge swipe, its powerful and has a real long reach, it will reach inside the red circle they cast. You stay outside it. You can block too. Better to move out of the way. You also have a heavy hit with your paws, just hold down the left mouse button and don't stop.
    5. If you have Evil Hunter or any good long lasting passives use them before entering the portal.
    6. There are several bosses you can get, leave the portal come back in 15 minutes. I have heard from my 30 odd pups they found the serpent the worst. I think the Mammoth is the easiest, its slow.
    7. Plan to target the back haunches.
    8. TAKE awesome potions, Weapon damage, or what have you. Use em like candy

Good list of advice, and based on my own personal experience (I've done the quest 7 times) I'd agree that the snake is the hardest (mostly because you have to interrupt, and if you miss the interrupt you're effectively starting the fight over again - if you're low enough level that you have a high miss percentage this is infuriating), and the mammoth is the easiest. The troll isn't too bad either, though.

Agreed, just tried it out on a VR4 apt to check nothing's changed in the last 2 weeks. Not to disrespect the OP (and I've got experience too) the quest was over and done in a couple minutes. Smacked the mammoth on his azz a few times, switched to side swipes when he did his cone, kept heavy hitting. Just need to move and keep hitting.

    Good luck.

I think the issue is simply I am a sorcerer in Light Armor, mixed with excessive lag last night. When going in Werewolf form I think I just assumed it took on its own armor and stats rather than what I in human form had. I have no issues in PvE normally as I solo VR dungeons all the time.

I will switch to medium and/or heavy armor, sta/health food and pots and see how does. hopefully the lag spikes arent there tonight

This quest is absolutely doable at v12 - v14 in light armor with no changes or buffs to stamina. Did it recently after the update with my DK caster, changed nothing with my gear or attributes and fought the troll with minimal difficulty.

It helps if you have something with a flame enchant to help combat their health regen (if troll) and to stay still until they do their aoe attacks, then step out just outside the red and keep attacking. Never stop attacking with light and heavy attacks. Personally found the werewolf skills given (what, the first two?) utterly useless in fighting the bosses, so don't waste the stamina-- use that to roll dodge and block if you have to. Use a health potion if you fall below 60 - 50% health but you shouldn't need more than maybe one or two.

I completed last night waiting until another boss spawned instead of snake. I did the troll boss. Not a lot of stamina as a sorc so I put on 4 piece medium armor, switched to sword and board, and beat troll on first attempt just moving out of the red.
I think the issues I had on the first night were just lag related....i.e visuals being off.

I think the issue is simply I am a sorcerer in Light Armor,

What I have done with my casters is to give them a Heavy Chest piece and a Heavy Helm. Most HA Chest will mesh well with other LA pieces visually, and you can hide the helm. If you have the Helm showing, then use Greaves for the second Heavy piece. This alone will double your Physical and Magic Resistance, and you still keep the benefits of LA for Magic.

Also, I don't think it's really worth putting any Champ points into the LA passive in the constellation. I have like 23 or 28 points into it, and it gives me a 5% boost to LA, which considering how low LA is to start with, that ain't much. Instead put the points into that constellation into Spell or Elemental Resist as you get more protection from the points.

But, at the very least, wear two pieces of Heavy, you will be a lot less squishy.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Every time I went in there prior to 1.6 it was always an elite troll who stomped me. I have yet to go back and try it again.
