How do I get rid of a bounty?

Just started playing today and wanted to see if you could kill NPC's (bad idea, I know lol), but the problem is I cant pay off my bounty and I cant even go into a town to sell items to get the gold to pay my bounty, thus my bounty keeps on growing. What do I do besides making a new character?

You must wait until your bounty goes away. I know how it feels, I had a 16k bounty and I'm still waiting.

You can visit the thieve's hideout to sell items and use bank.

Or you can pay a fence or guard (if you get caught). There are a few achievements for this.

FYI, bounty counts down when you are offline as well. So if you have a bounty, and some good items that you don't want to risk being confiscated by a guard, log off. Play an alt or enjoy RL. When you log back in, bounty should be gone if enough time has past.

Two ways to deal with a bounty - pay it off or wait it out.

Paying it off can be done at the fence in the outlaws refugee, or by surrendering to a guard - if you have the cash.

Waiting it out... can take a while, I think the rate is what, 20 or so gold deducted all 3 minutes IIRC?? But there is always going on an alt, or fleeing to lawless places like cyrodil or coldharbour to quest (and/or earn money to pay off your bounty) while waiting...

I think decay is level-dependent - a portion is deducted every 3 minutes, but what that amount is depends on your level. A lower level character with a high bounty will take longer to lose it, because the bounty itself is level-dependent. (A Lvl 10 committing murder gets less bounty than a VR14 murderer.)

Not counting the achievement,there is no reason to pay a bounty ever,since for some strange reason it goes away by itself.....

Just play an alt for a few days and bounty magically goes *poof* o.O

Unless of course you specifically want to play that character and not an alt

I've got as high as 150k :P

Did get most of the achievements already, though... Needed like 2 weeks for it to go down, I think lol

But yeah, you can live as a criminal, use the havens to access your bank and sell stuff, use Cyrodiil for stablemaster
