Okay, it might have been a bit unfair to call eso unimmersive

As I continued to play eso... its an amazing and fun game in most respects, but there was always something that made the world not really connect like it does in a lot of mmo's. After replying to another post and suggesting as much, not wanting to ragequit i did log back in and in between quests tried to figure out what was going on.. In the end i did 2 things which dramatically changed the game for me:

- Disable the music

First i gotta say all credit to eso's sound desigers for having the nuts to have music continually repeating on loop, instead of the cinematic 'only when it feels like it' that seems popular in other games now... i like looped music a lot. Sadly it seems this idea only works when the soundtrack is a 10/10.. and for eso's soundtrack its more of a 3/10. Without this music.. the world seems to be a lot more present than with it.. and if you have headphones the sound effects and environment noises are really rich and detailed. Its awesome. Well.. it could just have been the effect of positive by removing a negative.. who knows.. but it definitely works for me.

- Play in first person mode apart from in combat

Not seeing your character makes the world the focus instead of you.. which somehow in my head completely transforms the effect it has... there's something really sterile about it in 3rd person.. in 1st person somehow this effect doesn't seem to happen. To enable this i made a macro on my mouse to press v+z with one button.. and switch in and out of combat that way. You need to tweak it as anything you interact with puts your weapon away but it works.

Playing in first person does take a bit of time to get used to but i can't go back now. When i log in and there's no music... i'm still feel this small but real little sigh of relief. Its a little more elder scrolls like immersive. The last part would be to get a flora and fauna mod for people who's systems can run it (maybe make wayshrines zip you over rather than teleport).. and it will be a great gem!!

I can agree since that is how I play the elder scrolls games. I do like first person but in pvp combat, I will probably be sticking with third person because the added view helps.

But the immersion is pretty night. Great for late night roleplaying.

3/10 for music dropping to 'kill the composer' on that gd red diamond travesty that every single bloody bard in the world plays, talk about budget...

oh nice, much nicer now I've turned music off completely. Now, is there an option to just mute that annoying cow at belkarth WS perpetually whining about some s---ty caravan problem?

Yeah for sure.. you can't be "good" at combat in first person mode. I tried running a dungeon in first person mode to see if it would work.. not a chance.

Lol the yeah the songs i love to hate. They seem to be right at home if you went to a medieval fair or something.. while its a nice try by zenimax just not really. Perhaps there are better options for eso considering its fantasy.. Eso isn't robin hood. Imagine those songs more like the songs from the hobbit movies?? Something else. The songs the youtube girls sings are really bad also.. they should have thought about putting her face as the npc because the song by themselves.. and when you're stuck hearing them because that's the closest cooking fire to the bank...

Anyways... yeah i'd agree that the songs can be painful.

The music overall is okay but ZOS should have had signature music for each faction. Little more variation of the ES theme disctintive for each faction. Having the same music for all the factions just doesn't sound right.

If you want a change of pace for the background music and still prefer to stay true to the Elder Scrolls scores. use Spotify or Pandora or even Youtube in another window and dial up the Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim soundtracks.

Just turned the music off and it really is astonishing how the environment comes into play. Excellent idea. It reminds me of my UO days!

I might have to try the turning off the music idea. Although I do like the bard songs ;) (especially Red Diamond!!)

I personally enjoy the soundtrack quite a lot. It's very similar to Oblivion and even the main theme is just a slightly changed version of the Oblivion main theme. I didn't like the Skyrim soundtrack much at all. I'll disagree about the soundtrack being poor. The ambient sounds are very good though and I get why some would prefer having the music disabled.

Hey great idea, will give that a go next play. Without the soundtrack.. i think i'm now officially hooked on eso. Thanks eso, been a while since I've enjoyed an mmo like this.

The bard songs are still there if you disable the music.

After suffering through the bard songs in Dragon Age Inquisition, the ones in ESO are masterpieces in comparison....
