Sorcerer trouble

I am having trouble creating a leveling build that doesn't involve pets. I am not sure if its possible I seem to be limited in my choice of skills due to survivablity issues. If I use a pet i am fine, but if i want to take out two or more even level mobs and one or two of them is ranged I am in trouble. Sorcerer seems to lack the one thing they need to be viable outside of pets and thats some form of long term lock down. Plenty of stuff to keep melee at bay but nothing to deal with both at the same time or game forbid i have to deal with two or ranged and a melee. Meanwhile I don't seem to have any issues at all killing things on non sorcerer builds.

Rune Prison pretty much fits the literal description for long term lockdowns against ranged opponents.

Sorc doesn't have good self-healing, but it does have pets. What the problem with pets?
Don't like pets? Use healing staff's second skill and kill group mobs one by one healing.
Skill up your destro staff and you'll get a good CC and AOE abilities.
But pets are really usable on 1-50 lvl, they are good at distracting world\delve bosses.
Finally all this is up to you.

    I use following:

    Destruction staff (fire):

    - Force Pulse
    - Lightning Flood (You can use the duration morph, but I like the bigger area)
    - Fire Ring
    - Mages Wrath
    - Inner Light
Ulti: Greater Storm Atronach (You can switch to meteor if you have it)

    Healing Staff:

    - Power Surge
    - Healing Springs
    - Dark Conversion
    - Healing Ward
    Ulti: Suppression Field

Attributes: 23 health 27+ magicka (I basically went 50-50 up til 23, then rest magicka)

I use medium attack to ignite enemies, and follow up with a force pule (which aoes on ignited enemies etc). Inner light will stay active at all time (reset when entering dungeons). Before each fight, I switch to healing staff and use Power Surge, then back to destruction staff.

If you are dying or taking too much damage, switch to healing staff and use healing ward and/or healing springs.

Parfax's video on the build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUarsgvP32k

It's not perfect, nor is it the best build out there. But it works for me. I can even solo most if not all world bosses up til my current level (veteran level 2)

No pets, no problem. You may want to invest in at least one of these: Hardened Ward, Bound armor, Lightning Form, and some CC so you can take a few hits without dying and keep mobs away from you as long as possible. Also have a resto staff handy for longer fights, you'll need the healing.
