The (pre)release of this game happened on March 30, 2014.
Tomorrow is ESO's 1 year anniversary.
A few players, including myself, have been playing ESO consistently since the beginning.

For all the veterans who have been playing the game since the start, I want you to add up the the /played time on all of your characters and calculate exactly how many hours of this past year have you been playing this game.
A year is 8765.8 hours.

For me I have logged 2126 hours into this game across three man characters. Therefore I have spent 24.25% of this entire year, playing this game.

I have done a lot in this game. Not sure every minute was worth it.
Other people post their times.

What if we have deleted the first characters we made and no longer have that data? :(

But actually - hold on, hold right on. You have spent nearly an entire quarter of your life over the last year playing ESO? I mean I thought I was a fan, but that is just insane. You do know that you can get health problems, like potentially fatal health problems, as a result of spending that long sitting down, right?

I have spent around 1,000 hours with the game, but I have also spent 25% of my year at work, mostly sitting down, and 30% of my year in bed, sleeping. That still leaves plenty of time to be active. It's not as if sitting down is all I ever do. Your comment is just short of an insult saying that everyone spending lots of time with a game are no-lifers. Many people in perfectly good health spend many hours every day sitting down. It's what humans do these days. The important thing is that you should not be doing only that.

A passive life style is a big health problem for many people, but please don't generalize and say that gaming kills you.

1000 hours in a year is still a lot of time playing a single computer game, but still leaves you lots of time for other activities. 2000 hours or 3000 hours is not so good though. That's ~ 5 1/2 - 8 1/2 hours a day if you played every single day of the year. Unless you're unemployed, I'd say no-lifer is truly an apt description there. Obsessive to the point of pathological need for escapism maybe. Nothing to brag about, at the least. I really hope those folk don't have families.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_addiction

Video game addiction is an excessive or compulsive use of computer games or video games, which interferes with a person's everyday life. Online game addiction has a negative image and is becoming a public concern. Many people categorize addiction with either alcohol or drugs, but addiction can play also a part in a person's behavior. When one is addicted they need more of a substance or behavior to keep them satisfied. If a person does not get more of the substance or behavior they may become miserable or irritable. [1] Video game addiction may present itself as compulsive game-playing; social isolation; mood swings; diminished imagination; and hyper-focus on in-game achievements, to the exclusion of other events in life.

Excessive use of video games may have some or all of the symptoms of drug addiction or other proposed psychological addictions. Some players become more concerned with their interactions in the game than in their broader lives. Players may play many hours per day, neglect personal hygiene, gain or lose significant weight due to playing, disrupt sleep patterns to play resulting in sleep deprivation, play at work, avoid phone calls from friends, or lie about how much time they spend playing video games.[3][9] In one extreme instance, it was reported that a seventeen-year-old boy would play for periods of up to 15 hours, skipping meals and only stopping when he blacked out.[10]
APA has developed 9 criteria for characterising the proposed internet gaming disorder:[5]

    1. Pre-occupation. Do you spend a lot of time thinking about games even when you are not playing, or planning when you can play next?

    2. Withdrawal. Do you feel restless, irritable, moody, angry, anxious or sad when attempting to cut down or stop gaming, or when you are unable to play.

    3. Tolerance. Do you feel the need to play for increasing amounts of time, play more exciting games, or use more powerful equipment to get the same amount of excitement you used to get?

    4. Reduce/stop. Do you feel that you should play less, but are unable to cut back on the amount of time you spend playing games?

    5. Give up other activities. Do you lose interest in or reduce participation in other recreational activities (hobbies, meetings with friends) due to gaming?

    6. Continue despite problems. Do you continue to play games even though you are aware of negative consequences, such as not getting enough sleep, being late to school/work, spending too much money, having arguments with others, or neglecting important duties?

7.Deceive/cover up. Do you lie to family, friends or others about how much you game, or try to keep your family or friends from knowing how much you game?

    8. Escape adverse moods. Do you game to escape from or forget about personal problems, or to relieve uncomfortable feelings such as guilt, anxiety, helplessness or depression?

    9. Risk/lose relationships/opportunities. Do you risk or lose significant relationships, or job, educational or career opportunities because of gaming?

    Spoiler
    Clinically vetted survey:

The following survey was published by a research study at the Iowa State University conducted by Douglas Gentile, PhD [1]. The following questions are based on diagnostic criteria for addictive gambling behavior:
    1. Over time, have you been spending much more time playing video games, learning about video game playing, or planning the next opportunity to play?
    2. Do you need to spend more time and money on video games in order to feel the same amount of excitement as other activities in your life?
    3. Have you tried to play video games for shorter durations of times but have been unsuccessful?
    4. Do you become restless or irritable when you attempt to cut down or stop playing video games?
    5. Have you played video games as a way to escape problems or negative feelings?
    6. Have you lied to family or friends about how much you play video games?
    7. Have you ever stolen a video game from a store or a friend, or stolen money to buy a video game?
    8. Do you sometimes skip household chores in order to play more video games?
    9. Do you sometimes skip homework or work in order to play more video games?
    10. Have you ever done poorly on a school assignment, test, or work assignment because you have spent so much time playing video games?
    11. Have you ever needed friends or family to give you extra money because you’ve spent too much of your own money on video games, software, or game Internet fees?
If you answered “yes” to six or more of these questions, then you most likely have an addiction to video games. If “yes” is answered to five or less questions, then there may be a problem. Help can be found on this resources page.

“Video game addiction” and “Internet addiction” are not yet official medical diagnoses with standardized criteria. Behaviors become “addictions” when they disrupt real life, such as school or work performance, real life relationships, and activities of daily living.

Use this survey as a guide to determine if video games and/or Internet use may be a problem in your life, but do not use the survey to make a “clinical diagnosis”.
The following screening was assembled by OLGA/OLG-Anon. It contains questions put forth by gamers and professionals. It is not a validated diagnostic tool. We suggest that this list be printed and that you focus on the overall character of your responses, rather than on a particular answer. The screening will have more benefit to you if you are honest in your responses. When you are finished, look at your list. You must determine if you think excessive gaming is a problem.
    • Are you unable to predict the time you spend gaming?
    • Have you repeatedly made unsuccessful efforts to control, cut back, or stop your game playing?
    • Do you have difficulty staying away from gaming for several days at a time?
    • Do you feel the need to play games for increasing amounts of time in order to achieve satisfaction?
    • Do you tell yourself you can stop playing the game any time you want to, even though you keep playing when you don't mean to?
    • Do you often fear that life without gaming would be boring, empty, and joyless?
    • Have you ever decided to stop playing the game for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days?
    • Do you deny addiction to a MMORPG, but somehow still feel the need to play?
    • Do you feel preoccupied with gaming (do you think about previous gaming activity or anticipate your next session)?
    • Have you lied to family members, a therapist, or others to conceal the extent of your involvement with gaming?
    • Do you use gaming as a way of escaping from problems or of relieving a dysphoric mood (e.g. Feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression)?
    • Do you spend much of your free time surfing game-related websites?
    • Do you spend a significant amount of time outside the game in activities relating to the game?
    • Do you often check your gaming boards before doing other things that you need to do?
    • Do you find yourself flirting in the game in an attempt to build a relationship?
    • Do you feel your heart racing as you control your character in a flee from danger?
    • Do you feel a sudden rush of intense joy/sense of euphoria and relaxation after an in-game accomplishment?
    • Do you experience stronger emotions while in your online game than you do in real life?
    • Do you ever refer to yourself by the name of your In-Game character, or cling to your character's name for your emails, instant messenger, etc?
    • Are the majority of your friends those with whom you play games?
    • Do you try to find ways of playing your online game when you are not at home?
    • Do you occupy uninterested friends/family/partner with conversation about the game?
    • Do you attempt to get friends/family/partner to play, so you can play more?
    • Do you feel closer to your character than to your real self?
    • Have you withdrawn from real life hobbies?
    • Do you eat at the computer while gaming or do you skip meals to game?
    • Have your sleep patterns changed or do you lose sleep due to late-night raids/gaming?
    • Have you experienced physical effects from excessive gaming (e.g. carpal tunnel, eye strain, weight change, back ache, sore neck, arms, wrist)?
    • Do you spend real money on the purchase of in-game items?
    • Do you often become defensive or secretive when you are asked what you do when you are gaming?
    • Do you deny, rationalize and minimize the negative consequences of gaming?
    • Do you feel the need to "stand up for gamers" and proclaim that your life is perfect by listing all of your life's achievements, and yet still game for 4-6 hours per day?
    • Do you neglect household chores to spend time gaming?
    • Have you given up or reduced time spent at important social, occupational, or recreational activities in your real life to play the game?
    • Do you prefer the excitement of gaming to intimacy with your partner?
    • Has your excessive gaming caused trouble at home?
    • Have you missed work/school because of your game playing?
    • Have you jeopardized or risked the loss of a significant relationship, job, educational or career opportunity because of your game playing?
    • Do you wish people would mind their own business about your gaming and stop telling you what to do?
    • Do you try to hide how long you've been gaming?
    • Do you often snap, yell, or act annoyed if someone interrupts you while you are gaming?
    • Do you feel restless, moody, depressed, or irritable when attempting to cut down or stop your gaming? Does it go away once you have started gaming again?
    • Have you ever switched from one game to another in the hope it will keep you from playing so much?
    • Do you envy people who can play the game without getting into 'trouble'?
    • Do you feel guilt, shame, anxiety or depression around the time you spend gaming?
    • Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not play the game so much?

Feel free to post your answers! :D

In industry, a "standard" work year is 1880 hours; that's 2080 hours of total time available (assuming eight-hour days) minus ten Federal holidays (80 hours; in the USA; Europ[e has different standards) minus two weeks of vacation time (80 hours) minus sick time (forty hours).

If you're exceeding that, then you're playing more than you're working.

    Think about it.

Good call on the spoiler tags @ZOS_PierreL but I don't think the link had to be removed as well. I think this is too important to be taken seriously...

All kidding aside, a MMO or video game addiction in general can have a serious negative impact on one's life, I know that myself all too well. Therefore sites like Online Gamers Anonymous are no joke, very much needed and I'm glad they exist. Go check them out, even if you deem yourself in control of your gaming habits, there's things to be learned about our favorite hobby.

Oh, and it's around 750 hours for me, deleted alts included.

However for those worriers.....at a minimum 1/3 of that time was spent playing with my husband. Couples that play together, stay together ;)

During the day hours I am more often than not simply keeping myself logged in around a 4 year old, when the auto log doesn't get me....if I wasn't in a safe place, I'm quite often found dead by some mob that respawned while I was building legos, helping with homework, tidying up, making dinner, w/e.....I would attribute 75% of the remaining 2/3 time to this

And the little left over was me chugging along trying to get something done or farming.
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!
