Keyboard or controller. What do you use and why? If you use a controller what is your layout?

Hello all. Coming back to ESO again. Trying to hook up my controller and get use to it again when I play ESO. For what ever reason I don't like using a mouse and keyboard anymore. Personal preference that's all.

So I am wondering what do other players use and why What is your layout if you are on the mouse and keyboard? What is your layout if you are using a controller? I was getting excited to play ESO again with my 360 controller but sadly my son broke it. I see I can use my xbox one controller on my laptop, but need to test it out to see if I can get it running in Mac mode where I play ESO.

I just want to know if I don't like the xbox one, if I should be trying something else and what layouts people use so it can be easier for me.

    I'll chime in just because but these threads often turn in to controller vs. keyboard wars.

    I use the G11 Gameboard and G7 mouse; I prefer mouse and keyboard but like the gameboards so all my maps can be centered around my hand rather than across my keyboard. I've used an xbox controller with no problems except that in certain games like this there is a noticeable difference between mouse movement and controller movement.

    Do a search, there are a number of threads about controllers, some include layouts or links.

    I use an Xbox 360, and have since early release. Got my layout from Youtube, with some mods I made myself. There is supposed to be controller support added in the future, sometime after Console release. But take that with a grain of salt, ZO$ has a bad habit of saying stuff like this, then dropping the ball.

    Thanks Ourorboros. I tried doing a search and I see a lot of stuff that is not controller related. Maybe I should type in xbox and see what happens. I will check out the youtube as well. Never thought of that. Thank you for the suggestion.

    Desciviib14_ESO, what is that you use? I never herd of a game board before. Does this mouse you use have more buttons than a basic mouse? Also is it made for left handed or right handed people? I guess me being left handed I have a harder time using keyboard commands.

    Tried with an Xbox 360 wireless controller for a couple weeks, but it was clunky compared to this set up so swapped back over.

    I use a logitech G13 gamepad and a fairly basic mouse. I'm quite happy with the G13. It has a lot of keys within easy reach in an ergonomically sound way. The four way mini joystick you can operate with your thumb is especially handy in this respect. Programmable keys can also be useful though I find I don't have much need for those.

    I also use voice activated commands for emotes, just for the heck of it.
    Please stop making requests for game features. ZOS have enough bad ideas as it is!

    This is the layout I use with Xpadder; been using it since closed beta. Works phenomenal with no glitches I know of.

    The G series are Logitech's gaming series and I love mine. A gameboard is a keyboard that is more or less hand shaped with a few less keys than a standard; mine (G11) has 24 keys with a thumb stick for directional movement. There are a number of brands available but most people I know use the G11 or the Orbweaver by Razr. Yeah, my mouse has 9 buttons plus the wheel has down click and side -side clicks that can be mapped/bound. Im not sure if G7 mouse comes in left hand or not but generally once you get in to the more expensive mice(?), they can be bought in left or right hand versions.

    Thanks guys. I am glad I made this post. I didn't even knew these gadgets existed. I will need to see if my Future Shop has these. Time to do more research.

    In the mean time, I will need to wait for pay day if I want to buy these. So my question is, reading some of the posts, either I am not understanding properly, I think when I see some people's layouts, they are using the A,B,X,Y buttons twice. press quickly it does something, press and hold it does something else or are they pressing the right bumper as they are pressing the button as well? How is this done?

    I can't remember what program I have for my Mac to do this. I am in Win 8 mode right now. Once I am back in Mac mode I will see what I have so I can use controllers on my Mac.

    I use Xpadder with a controller 90% of the time. I switch to KB and Mouse when selling or crafting which is as easy as putting the controller down.

    i use wireless xbox360 controller hooked to laptop connected to 42 lcd, but after reaching higher lvl i realize it's not enough,especially when u wanna do group dungeons and u have to communicate with other users, so i added a wireless mini keyboard from riitek, very recommended. now i dont have to wake up from the couch at all!

    Personally use the gamepad and gaming mouse because my joints are too siezed up to make good use of the keyboard as in my younger years. ;)
    Also, my cane is a Cold Steel City Stick -- my view is when it comes to health and well being, go the extra mile and buy the best tools you can to preserve it.

    Similar for me, I use a Gamepad for ease of use due to nerve damage in my left hand.

    Google "voice activated commands". Note, it's not free, but I found it to be quite useful and, above all, fun. You can use it to attach a command, or series of commands to a key phrase. I set it up such that if I speak into the microphone, for instance "wave", the console opens, the command is typed, executed and the console window closes again. I think it's more fun than whispering for casual communication with other players.

    P.S. if you think this use of macroing is unfair, try it out. It's useful for commands that you'd have to type in console, but no substitute for key-binding. Best you might manage is free up some keys by assigning things like your inventory or the map to a voice command.

    I use a PS3 controller for the most part. I do still use the mouse and keyboard for opening chests and clicking on ability #'s 4&5 during fights, and to turn off the UI interface if I want to take a screenshot.

    I use the following on my 360 controller
    I use GovePie Emulator, with the following script:

    // Back Start (Sneak and Target)
    Key.Ctrl = Xinput.Back
    Key.Tab = Xinput.Start

    // A B X Y Buttons (Accept, Decline, Synergy, and Potion)
    Key.E = Xinput.A
    Key.Alt = Xinput.B
    Key.X = Xinput.X
    Key.Q = Xinput.Y

    // D-Pad (Skils 1-4)
    Key.1 = Xinput.Up
    Key.3 = Xinput.Down
    Key.2 = Xinput.Left
    key.4 = Xinput.Right

    // Left Toggle (Movement and Push to Run)
    Key.W = Xinput.Joy1Y > .5
    Key.S = Xinput.Joy1Y < -.5
    Key.A = Xinput.Joy1X < -.5
    Key.D = Xinput.Joy1X > .5
    Key.Shift = Xinput.LeftThumb

    // Right Toggle (Mouse Move and Push to Jump)
    Key.Space = Xinput.RightThumb
    Mouse.DirectInputX += (XInput1.Joy2X)^3 *20
    Mouse.DirectInputY -= (XInput1.Joy2Y)^3 *20

    // Left Buttons (Ability 5 and Block)
    Key.5 = Xinput.LeftShoulder
    Mouse.RightButton= Xinput.LeftTrigger

    // Right Buttons (Ultimate Ability and Attack)
    Key.R = Xinput.RightShoulder
    Mouse.LeftButton = Xinput.RightTrigger

    You'll still need the keyboard for some stuff, but for majority of the game this works for me. I did notice the other day that the user settings file has controller variables in it now, so you might not need an emulator soon.

    Have tried all the addons and all viable controller configurations with pinnacle profiler. Invested dozens of hours tweaking setup, but it's always an unsatisfactory experience. Without native controller support and native UI designed for a controller, it will never be good enough.

    My fear is that the UI and controls provided to consoles will not be provided to PC players. If it isn't I will pay the $20 to copy my account to PS4 but will probably find the lack of addons, inferior graphics, difficulty communicating with players that don't use keyboards to type, and slow loading times too annoying. Then I'll just quit forever since I won't want to lose the comfort of controller play.

    I use Gigabyte Force M63 gaming mouse and a basic Dell usb keyboard (i hate flashy, funky over the top keyboards, just confuses the heck out of me) I don't need 10 million buttons that glow in every colour of the spectrum. If i need additional bindings, there is software to help me do that.
