Light armor nearly impossible to come by as loot or reward?

I'm playing mage, yet 99% of all loot I find is medium or heavy. The few light pieces I do find has health or stamina. What the crap...? Am I just THAT unlucky? or does the game seriously discourage light armor users? :S Perhaps we need a smart loot system.

You can always craft any piece of light armor you need. If you don't want to do crafting, there are plenty of people who can make it to sell.

I've also found it hard to find light armor but I think it varies from area to area as on my AD main, I found quite a bit of light armor. It may be worth browsing through guild stores as well and seeing if anyone's willing to craft light armor for you. :)

yeah Im currently wondering wether or not I should go for clothing. But I already have enchant and provisioning, so Im afraid it will take too many skill points.

The question though, is wether or not light armor is too difficult to come by without crafting or trading. Im surprised how little Ive found throughout my game up til VR1

My guild doesnt have a very big guild store unfortunately. I would like to join a big trade guild, but many requires VR14, which is somewhat understandable if they want a high quality trade going on. Sucks for lower players though.

It may be plain old odds...You have double the chance of getting a HA or MA piece of armor and about the same again with weapons.

It does feel like you find more of the one than the other, then again, it seems like the ones you do find are so unremarkable, they maybe don't even get noticed.

Set-wise, there is definitely bias shift, as well.

Is there a particular item you are looking for?
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

After patch 1.6, regular light armor drops are useless anyway. Your best bet is to craft some low level +spell damage stuff, Torug's Pact, Magnus Set, buy low level Martial Knowledge gear (when you get to high level enough).

As far as quest rewards it is hard to come by. If you invest time into Clothing you won't regret it as you can do both light and medium armor there. Put some points in Woodworking also, then you can make any kind of staff you want to go with your armor.

Just VR 1 items for my mage really. I just bought a set belt from a guild store called Adroitness. I will probably look around for that. The 2 set bonus gives spell damage.

I think you are just unlucky. While I always craft my own stuff (looks + set bonus), I had tons of light armor with proper stats to choose from. Crafting is pretty good though, do you know about the crafting stations? They offer wonderful sets while you level up, my sorceress has one and the boni enhance her play greatly.

However, on my Templar finding a decent shield was very difficult back in the days. She had her shield from the single digits until the late 10s. Not sure if we can craft shields now, its been a while for me playing on her.

I must be lucky, my drops/rewards are about 1/3 light armor. Enough to keep me busy researching.

If you are looking for light armor, look to kill casters. They tend to wear it more often than the melee and tanky types.

What server are you on? If you are NA, I may be able to craft stuff for you to complement the Adroitness set.

I think it's pretty much this, as in RNG is not your friend. I always seem to have plenty of LA drops, and always have. But as stated above, there are lots of crafters who can make whatever armor you want. And other than rare pieces, most armor is pretty cheap from guild stores.

I have only anecdotal evidence to back this up, but if I'm wearing 5 or more pieces of light armor, then tons of people and monsters I kill seem to drop it. If I'm wearing heavy, I get almost no LA drops.

I agree with you OP. From my game play since Beta, I mostly get Medium armor drops, even from casters. Then I get Heavy armor, and lastly I will get Light Armor. It has taken 3 characters to get enough light armor to learn all the traits on my Main Character.
Far too many characters to list any more.

    What?
Go to any 30-40lvl homezone and ask "looking for a trade guild".
You'll get at least one invite in 5 seconds. Without any "vr14 required".

yeah and 9/10 of them will have an empty guild store, or lvl 5 potions and white lvl 20 gear.

Yeah, just try it 10 times :p
You always can ask to make you an armor piece with needed trait. Community is friendly.

Truthfully it's just a luck of the draw type of thing, I found most traits I needed from Research from drops, the last few that I had I traded other Traits for or bought, usually I traded them though as I had traits other people needed.

As for your first point, I have Blacksmithing, Clothing, Woodworking, and Enchanting all on one character, you'll have more then enough skillpoints for combat skills and crafting skills. Although I will say you shouldn't go over 4 Craft skills on one character, but that's just my personal opinion on the matter.
