What do you spend your CP on?

Oddly enough, amongst all the discussions about the rate of CP gain, I can't seem to find one that concerns what people invest those points in. So either point me in the right direction, or ..........discuss?

Oh, you're supposed to spend them?

I thought it was all about gaining them?

I've built my templar for healing, so all of my CP goes into anything that will help increase healing or decrease magicka. Adding points in Spell Shield is always good too because LA armor just sucks for protection these days.

Lol, yes it seems that way, doesn't it? My V14 in sitting on 97 points. Surprisingly I didn't need them to survive the mobs in craglorn (based on pts I thought I would).

Cyro is no doubt another matter.

Was really expecting lots of discussions about this. There's certainly some interesting dilemmas.

    LOL @onlinegamer1
I actually did that for a bit. Just kept my points past the initial 70 unspent, since people seem to be hung up on what your "CP rank" is rather than how well you are spending them (or spending them at all).

As for spending, it really depends on the character.

I will invest mainly in the character's main armor type, main weapon and main resource, and then put some points in things like mitigation and resource generation. And I always keep an eye on interesting passives to unlock.

TBH, most people are either increasing damage, or increasing "cost reductions" (stam, magicka, blocking, dodging). I'm sure there is some armor boosting, damage shield boosting, elemental reduction, etc.

Its likely to be very different depending on class and build (and gear available to that character).

There isn't a whole lot of choice actually.

For each build there is a clear first choice. Blue +damage type, Green +resource type, Red +defense type. Done. I'll make another decision when I hit CR 301 I guess...

    Which will be next year?

Conventional logic says you should mostly focus in 1 tree until you get the 120 bonus.

As for what you chose I believe mage is the apprentice or ritual depending on if your magic or physical.

For thief I'm favorable to Lover.

For warrior I'd say the Lady with say maybe 10 points offspec if your armor isn't in the Lady tree.

There's diminishing returns though. I've seen some curves (don't remember where, must have been based on pts data) that suggest the returns diminish rapidly in the beginning, but approach linearity further on. In that sense you'd get the most out of your points by spreading them out until you reach the more linear section. Then it doesn't matter anymore whether you concentrate your points or not.

at first i was "SPEND SPEND SPEND." more and more i stockpile them for "problem solving." i am set for tanking, but due to time constraints in RL, i haven't been doing much playing, let alone grouping. i just hoard those points until i find a situation, that i legitimately have problems with. so far, i have been spending more in the DPS catering trees, based on my characters needs per the current gear i have (tank). if i need magicka i focus on that, if i need stamina, i focus on that. if my DPS needs to be higher ill look towards those. if theres nothing i can do then i just let the points rest. my experiences so far, is that this system is best looked at as a short term solution rather than something to be geared towards long-term. example: i can invest in the +armor for 5+ heavy pieces now, but i may find those points would be best put into the resistances line now and not have the points to spend in them. i consider the first point spent is the "problem solver", and each point after that is "refinement." so if i already spent a point into +armor then i may have to upgrade the quality (green to blue) or add more heavy items. i don't advice using this as a one direction system, because of the "two role" environment there is. cater to only one, but don't cater to one ALL the time. be a bit more flexible.

keep in mind this is only an OPINION, don't take this for a concrete fact.
I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the whole issue of the struggle depended on me alone.
