Why are they trying to turn a PC game into a console style game?

I remember when the first rumors of Skyrim finally going to the PC, and MMO. We finally get to play a game we loved together :).
So now after almost a year of playing and patches, we get improvements and many more frustrating bugs, lags and unreal nerfs.

The game ESO now has lost playablity especially in pvp.

Worst part is they keep trying to make a PC game look like a console game, ie graphic's after 1.6 SUCKS and the lag in game gets worse every minute
with nothing being done about it.

Prior to 1.6 I had a decent FPS and Latency, only time's it went bad was in pvp Thornblade, because the cursed EP exploited the heck outa that campaign :).

Now all campaign's are starting to lag storm, I say once again ZOS is caught with their pants down trying to rush into area's not really ready for release.

I enjoy this game, even with all the major bugs and exploits, so no threats of rage quiting here.

Just quit breaking the game and making things worse, just to make sure you release content.

graphics suck after 1.6? Mine look just as amazing as they did on ultra settings. I have no clue what you are talking about. Why would they dumb down a version thats out already? This must be a angry joe worshiper

ESOs last chance is the console version. Simple as it is.

It's obvious the PC playerbase couldn't "afford" ESO on a longer term, that's why they totally scrapped of PC playerbase and are focussing on consoles right now.

Console version is their last chance to have the revenue they once calculated.

I see no changes in graphics. If anything, they have improved.

And get used to it. The days of PC games being far superior to console games are over. Companies are less about game quality and more about revenue (gaming companies). That used to not be true.

Games will always be designed for the easiest possible port to console. It is what it is.

There has been no change to graphics, they continue to look fantastic.

PC Gaming is slowly going the way of the buffalo unfortunately. Triple A titles just don't cater to us anymore because the Ultra-Casual and the Console Warrior are the market now. If it can't be easily ported to a console then it's for a niche crowd (Pillars of Eternity is a good example, amazing game...most certainly not for consoles). We will see fewer and fewer good titles receive proper PC treatment as time marches on and consoles invade every home.

I didn't change any of my graphic settings (nor have they changed on their own accord) yet after the patch is the first time my computer (Windows, not the game client!) actually asked me if I want to turn down color settings because it's running slow while playing the game and my fan goes a little crazy. The lag is for real. You're so lucky if you're not experiencing it!

With their track record I seriously doubt they will ever be able to release new content without new bugs or even an attempt to fix something without breaking something else.

To be fair to ZOS, that is a comment you could fairly make about any developer, and any MMO. Look at the fuss that Trion, Funcom, Daybreak Games (formerly SOE), and all the rest - including even the Blessed Blizzard - get into whenever they add something new or attempt to fix something old. Look at the mess that ArenaNet made of the recent Guild Wars 2 patch.

These things are complex and people's systems are hugely varied making compatibility issues inevitable. Despite the best efforts of internal QA and external beta testers, updates and hotfixes are really only fully tested when the masses get to test them on the live servers.

You have it backwards. Look at your "Q" menu.

They took a console game and made it for PC. However, then they decided the console port wouldnt work so they came out with a new console version and left the remants in the PC version.

They changed the video card requirements to run Ultra settings in 1.6, and reset many people's defaults.
OP might have a crappy video card and ended up on Medium settings without knowing it.

Hopefully the patch today will resolve a bunch of gameplay issues we've had since 1.6. I am not seeing any of the graphics getting worse tho. I have all my settings at the highest level and things look great. It's possible that with the last update your video card settings dropped down due to greater system resources. I hope the PVE lag is fixed with this as well as the constant <1> crashes. You cannot even Wayshrine into Rawlkha directly without getting that error. I've found it easier to port to another Wayshrine in Reapers(Not Rawlkha) first. Then you can port to Rawlkha with no errors.

I won't know how things work till I get off work later. Only 7 hr's to go....DOH!

    I disagree.

I think console was planned from ESO's inception. I believe it went B2P because there's no way they could get Sony and Microsoft to wave the fee's for XBox Live and PS Plus and agree to just take a chunk of the $15 a month total fee. They were likely in talks with Microsoft and Sony long before it was ever announced that console was a possibility.

I think the only way ZOS could get Sony and Microsoft on board was to change the payment model and offer them a cut of the box sales as well as crown store sales from the console players.

It makes sense to me. Start-up game publisher(ZOS) goes to chat with the 2 dominating market leaders in their respective genre, pitches an idea that get's slapped down by the moneymen, ZOS then goes into brainstorm mode and BLAM.....

    B2P is born.

This is why I blame console for B2P.

    Think about it objectively.

The game was originally designed for console from the beginning but was rushed on PC release, so the game was in payed beta for a year and now instead of polishing the PC version they will now cash out on console versions. Things like updating the UI or fixing the LFG tool or fixing bugs / performance can wait. Consoles and microtransactions / exp potions are more important now, ty for all your money, they will no longer charge us for beta testing, now we can do it for free. :)

This is the way I see it, And keep in mind that like @WraithAzraiel said, this was always going to be a console game.

A ton of people (including me) came to this game expecting a Skyrim MMO, and skyrim was basically a console game.

When they started playing, they found out that this game was an Elderscrolls MMO, which other than lore was nothing like Skyrim (big negitive for me was no gamepad support). So alot of people unsubbed despite the fact that this was a pretty good and unique and fun game all its own. So they started making changes to bring it closer to a skyrim feel.

Then they had trouble porting the game to console. And Sony and Microsoft have their own subs for online play, so they now had to rewrite and restructure everything for console while trying to make money so they can keep the game going. (They originally had plans that would have console have only the regular $15 sub but the structure of PS4 and XBox One online gaming requires you to pay them subs also, so that didn't work.)

Do I wish that they had never been forced to go to BTP? YES
Buy to Play games, no matter what anyone claims, will always have a Buy to Win aspects to it, its the only way to entice players to keep paying money once they finish buying all the extra fluff that doesn't actually affect gameplay.

Do I think that BTP is going to ruin the game? NO
Other than the minimal effect of getting faster experience gains and higher grade potions, BTP will still have all players on equal field in this game. And it will attract more old and new players.

Do I think that right now PC/Mac gamers are playing the role of BetaTesters now? Yes
I had fun in beta, and I am having fun with this game now. There are times when I do get frustrated but I realize that this game has basically reverted to a somewhat beta testing like state for console release. Only this time there are no character wipes. Can't wait till June, basically buying a PS4 beginning of next month just for this game.
As a casual player I was satisfied that at one point I had a char max level and near max crafting with almost all motifs and I pretty much lost interest. Then ESO discovered DLC's and now my main is just a wanabe and I am happily pulled back into the game.

So many accuse the "Q" menu of being console orientated, but i think it just works fine with the idea of having a minimalist UI.

From my understanding Sony doesn't make their mmos have the additional requirement of paying PS plus to play an mmo. That is why the Final Fantasy mmos came to Xbox live late last gen and this gen, well still not announced for xbox one yet so think MS is still forcing the extra sub.

I think the graphics on this game are first or second close with FFXIV ARR in the mmorpg fantasy space. Most mmos go the stylized cartoon route and don't push the power much.

I prefer controller over keyboard even if keyboard is superior. It is just more relaxing although I am not one of the hardcore raider types. I just want controller support on PC as well. Anyone know when/if this is happening?

    I got two personal worries:
1.I fear many console players are going to get frustrated if the UI remains as basic as it is right now. The combat is fine. I am talking about other things that systems in game don't handle. Things awesome addons are adding to the game, specifically in the item/goods sector, with ease of use, amenities, playability, etc.

2.B2P usually get less content than a P2P game, presuming both are doing reasonably well.
If that is this case in the future with this game. What are some ways Zenimax could ask us for help without making us feel nickled and dimed to increase content update speeds?
