Gearing up with crafting

Hello,

I have recently returned to the game, I quit at V10 right before craglorn was released. I decided to level a whole new character so I could get a feel for the game again. I am about to hit V1 on my NB and I remember reading a discussion regarding gearing up your character while you level to V14. I can’t seem to find that discussion so I decided to make this topic. The discussion I read was stating at V1 if you were to craft all of the gear you wanted (set bonuses etc) to legendary it would keep you competitive until V14. I wanted to see what everyone’s thoughts on this would be. Would it be worth the materials and the gold? Would it be more worth it to just craft the gear I want at V1,V5,V10 etc and only take it to either superior or epic? I understand i could absolutely get away with all greens in VR as Ive done it with my first character but I want to be somewhat of a threat in PVP whenever I decide to take a break from grinding out VR levels.

I appreciate any thoughts!

Unless you are rich and can buy gold tempers, or swimming in them yourself, go superior or epic until you decide what end game gear you want, and get it.

The game changes quite a bit when you leave the "normal" zones and move to Craglorn.
Having a complete golden set en knowing you have to change your playstyle will hurt.

I personally recraft my gear every level i go up (VR11 atm), since set effects also become better the higher the set becomes.
Getting enough resourses isn't that hard. Just deconstruct loot and grab the resources you find.
(I'm already at the point that i much rather craft a new set then repair a damaged one.)

    Hello,

I frequently run two or three levels over my gear. I used to make a set for each VR Rank, until I realized that the increase at each rank was quite small. Now, I make gear every two to 4 levels and improve it to just Blue, sometimes Purple in the VR Ranks. Even making a set of gear and taking it to Blue every two to three VR Ranks is cheaper than making just one set of Gold.

With the changes in Temper drops from hirelings and other places, the gold tempers may be even more expensive (or they could be less expensive, I don't care about gold tempers, I have enough myself) so that can impact this thought process.

It's more important that you choose gear that compliments your playstyle and class choice than to have the best gear at any given level. Until you get to VR14 where the only way to improve is the Tempers.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

My V14 only has a few pieces of legendary armor. Not because I can't make it, but because I keep changing this or that out to try. My suggestion would be to not craft anything for yourself as legendary until V14 and ONLY after you've had it for a while.

Much like others have mentioned, I only craft new armor every other V level (V8 at the moment). I only craft to Blue quality and find it to not be a problem with PVE mostly solo.
