My son has been at me since beta to allow him access to ESO. He has been patiently watching me play for almost a year now. He has been doing excellent in school so with the new "no sub required" account plan offered I want to surprise him with ESO if his next report card comes home satisfactorily.

My question is this. I plan on continuing my subscription to ESO Plus, which will net me an extra 10% of XP gain. Since my son will be on a no sub account, he will not get the same XP gain as me as we level together. I was hoping that I could make up his slower XP gain with XP potions from the crown store to help us stay even, so I'm not too far ahead of him and waiting for him to catch up. But I now see that XP potions or anything else sold in the crown store are not tradeable, so that kind of puts the kybosh on my plans to level together. I would have to buy my son a subscription (which is NOT in the budget right now) to keep us even in XP gain it seems, unless there is another way that I haven't thought of? Is there a way to level a new toon without the added 10% gain from ESO Plus, like maybe an option to disable it? Any other options?

Thanks in advance!

Drop your sub? If money truly is so tight, that you cannot afford another sub, I'd strongly suggest not subbing in the first place. Your not missing out on anything but some store trash and the 10% xp boost, which you want to get rid off of anyways.

Save money, play with son, classic win/win.

On another note, if you've been playing for a year you are going to be light years ahead of your son anyway unless you want to create a new player build which at best longevity is transient. I'm not sure about the concern of the XP rate.

If I'm understanding the issue, I believe the solution would be to purchase crowns on your son's account and have him buy the exp potions himself. In addition, I think you get around 500 crowns for purchasing the game which he can use immediately for some exp potions.

I would just unsub, you don't lose anything there and will stay even with your XP.

Oh. I'm sure your son will hit VR14 just earlier than you.

Well let's be honest - your son is probably going to out level you in no time. And congrats on having a kid who works hard in school. (Got 4 of my own and I know how much of a struggle that can be) But fear not, there are solutions. Obviously you have already been shown that you could drop the sub. But if you enjoy the benefits, then you probably want to try something else.

So get your kid a game card. Put $20 on it, then let him spend his money. You get the benefit of teaching him some financial responsibility, you only load it with what your budget can afford, you commit nothing beyond what is on the card. Win, win.

You can also buy crowns on the store on his account. The potential problem is that ZOS stores the CC #. I am not sure if it is possible, but your son could "accidentally" charge the card when he needs more. Not sure, but I know removing my card to stop the sub was a pain in the A$$.

Hope that helps, and good for you finding ways to spend quality time with your son. Although we may need to consider what is considered quality time in your house. (Just playing right :D )

Tell your son that you pay the bills, provide his food, and give him a home in which to live. Thus the 10 percent boost you receive in ESO is just a small tax on those services you provide.

It's great training for a very unfair life to come.

Appreciate the advice of all...TY! I also had thought of dropping my sub when the B2P model was unveiled, but I assumed that to be a last resort if it all came down to finances. I enjoy the game enough to work 15 bucks a month into the budget. This particular XP gain situation is not a financial issue in the least, and definitely not enough of an excuse to force me to follow through with that idea. But trying to slide 2 monthly ESO subs past the wife sure as hell aint gonna happen either.

The suggestions about him surpassing me to the point where even my 10% XP buff won''t be enough to keep up with him are probably the whole truth to the matter. I normally can squeeze in 3-4 hours a week on server. He is obviously home alot longer than I am. I guess we'll just jump in and see what happens.

Here will come the day, when your son will guide you through all gameplay tips&tricks.
And you'll have to buy XP bonus potions for yourself :-P
