Hi, I have same issue. Im running Win7 x64, ive tried repair, moving my depot folder, disabling and deleting addons, lowering graphic details and many other things, nothing worked.

    My ticket number 150330-001075.

    Edit:
Its for sure server side error. Ive logged in on my other char, died cause of afk and resurected at Rawlka in Reapers March wayshrine, then ive been kicked and now I have 2 characters that give this error! Both were in Rawlka when last loged on... Uhhh... Ive camed back to ESO after 2 months, and I get this... Maybe ill came back next year if this game will still exist...

I've verified my files, uninstalled, reinstalled, reloaded my OS from scratch and only installed my drivers and the game, no addons, and the game still kicks me to login screen either with no error or with the <<1>>. This only began after update 1.6, but got worse after this last update to the point where I'm only able to play a maximum of a couple of minutes at a time, at the most 5-10 before I'm kicked to the login screen. It's caused multiple deaths and lack of being able to reliably play with my guildees, which really takes away from the game or being a premium member. It also doesn't matter which character I'm on and whether I'm out in the world or in a busy city, although it does seem to kick me faster when I'm in a city.

EDIT: It should also be noted my wife does not have this issue on her PC and we have the exact same hardware and things installed (prior to my rebuild).

There is something about encouraging people to download the entire game again while pretending like you're not that makes me queasy as hell.

Especially considering the fact that it takes like 12 days to download this game on the fastest connection known to man. This is hyperbole, but the true figures aren't massively smaller. If you're lucky, an install might take 24 hours.

This is the dark side of a helpdesk disconnected from real solutions.

Sorry guys, I've worked dozens of them, led several, managed a few, and designed a couple.

This kind of response is being given to the HD from the soft team as a time waster. It's a covert 'uninstall-reinstall'.

The only nice thing about this kind of weak crap is that /every action produces data/.

:grey_question:Please indicate what was happening when you got Error <<1>>:
    • Error <<1>> (a) randomly, for no apparent reason
-may not always receive an error
    • Error <<1>> (b) caused by Zone Transferring
-often accompanied by Infinite Requesting Character Load
    • Error <<1>> (c) for some other reason
      -please describe
    Provide Incident ID #.

:star:Possible Solutions suggested so far in this thread by ZOS:
    Repair game files
Move your depot folder to desktop, run repair.
If you're running Windows 8.1 try running ESO via compatability mode for windows 8 or XP

:star:Solutions which worked for others to solve Error <<1>> (a):
Switched original router to bridge mode, got a new router (Solved OP @Friesenberg 's issue)
Replaced Depot folder with another Depot folder from a PC that did not have ESO problems (Solved @Noize 's issue)

:star:Solutions I tried for Error <<1>> (b) without success based on Tech Support recommendations:
Running ESO as Administrator and at High Priority from task manager (suggested by forum user)
Reinstalling Windows 7 and all drivers
Using Windows 10 Technical Preview (not recommended, ZOS does not provide support for this)
    Repairing Game launcher (many times)
Moving “depot" folder to Desktop, then running Repair
Reinstalling ESO, moving it to another drive
Calling my ISP to ensure that all TCP/UDP ports for ESO are open
Disabling Automatic configuration Script and Proxy Server in Internet options
    Performing a clean boot
Deleting personal settings in Internet Explorer
Deleting all "host.developer files" in the Launcher folder which contain numbers only
    Flushing DNS
    Power cycling the router
    Updating router firmware
Bypassing router and connecting PC directly to LAN
Disabling firewalls, adding exceptions in antivirus programs
Not only disabling addons but completely removing them from the ESO folder
Running ESO on Minimum graphics settings
Editing the Registry, adding "EnablePMTUBHDetect" with 1 value in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\tcpip\parameters\"
    ____________________________________________________________________________

@satyre74 - Since it's working for your wife, can you try @Noize 's solution, listed above? Please let us know if it works.
@ChopGateDon1 -- Are you able to get past Requesting Character Load every time without issue? Or are your <<1>> errors happening at the load screen? Are you also getting <<1>> error when you try to access wayshrines or change zones?
@Mayrael - Were you kicked without performing any actions? Or, were you kicked when trying to use the wayshrine?
    @Crunch - Do you have a combination of A. and B. versions of Error <<1>> ?

I will update this post as new solutions arise.

Well my problem has been solved, I did nothing so I suppose that I should thank to the team cause one of my chars was transfered to Auridon when I first loged in. I think ill give this game another chance :)

    EDIT:
@Xepla - I respawned at the shrine, but it was unusal respawn cause when I was moved to Rawlka I was still dead and laying on the ground with the death recap screen on. At the very begining I was able to see how other peeps were runing around but after few second all has stopped - it could be caused by my connection. But after that I couldn't log in on that chars cause of <<1>> error at the zone loading screen.

My first char that was blocked (the one which was moved to Auridon as a solution), also was kicked from Rawlka. I also was getting <<1>> error on zone loading screen, Ive never had problems with changing zones or log in to character select menu.

I think it is very complex problem, it may be caused by many things combined together e.g. internet connection, loss of data packets, zone overfill. Maybe servers wasnt ready to flood of new players.

I WAS getting it intermittently and had been for around 2 weeks. The times I received it was either on character load the screen would load for about 30 seconds then boot me to login with the <<1>> error. I could load straight in sometimes but others I would need to try 5 or more times to get into the game.

Other times (occasionally) I would be in game and I was no longer able to interact with things. I could move and NPCs were still moving but other players appeared to be frozen and I couldnt click or attack anything. After a little while I would again be booted to login with this <<1>> error.

Interestingly but possibly unrelated, when I had the freezing error if I alt+tab out of the game I would hear the animation noises in the background all at once as the screen changed but if I tabbed back in it was still frozen???

Its early days but i think i may have resolved the problem as after 10-15 failed character loads I had had enough of it and I uninstalled the full game and deleted all associated folders and files from scratch then re-downloaded it. I was only on for a short period last night but i didnt receive the error after loading characters up 5-6 times.

Ill update again once I get a chance to test it more and see if it breaks lol

Lol... Im gettin this on my main char that was left in Alikr Desert... It is not overcrowd area for sure -_- Yay!

    And loged in this time!

Well there is one common thing to all of my occurrences of <<1>> error. I remember, that Ive been disconnected with the server yesterday and didnt try to log in again because it was late already so Ive just pressed Alt+F4. So again unexpected disconnection with the server caused this error.

@Xepla, was that really an official suggested solution re: increasing the priority of eso.exe to high in Win 7? I'd think that would cause some rubberbanding and maybe generate lag spikes.

Also, with Win 10 is being launched in a few months hopefully ZOS will be prepared.

    http://news.microsoft.com/2015/03/17/windows-10-to-launch-this-summer-in-190-countries-and-111-languages-around-the-world/

So far not too high latency for me but I don't go into Cyrodiil much anymore. Just the need to do /reloadui or ride into buildings to dismount when the "H" key command (or others) doesn't work. I'm kind of amazed that ZOS doesn't require dxdiags and traceroutes/pathpings to help diagnose tech support issues.

@Xepla copied the 35.2GB depot from my wifes computer, not going to say it's resolved anything yet until I can go for a good period of time without kicking me to the login screen, but I'll update after I've run it for a bit. Thanks.

EDIT: After replacing my depot folder with my wifes it was about 3 hours before it kicked me to login screen without any error. After that it went about 5 minutes before it did it again. So, not fixed.

@Mayrael , You certainly have a very different issue from mine, one I'd categorize under Error <<1>> "(a)" as random disconnects. You're saying you experienced a random d/c on your main character in Alik'r? Have you tried connecting your ethernet directly to your PC and not going through the router?

@ChopGateDon1 - Nice, that's awesome the reinstall worked - or at least seems to have worked! Let us know if it breaks again :)

@wrlifeboil , no, another player suggested I try that - not an official recommendation, I updated my post to avoid confusion! As for Win 10, I was using Win10 Tech Preview when I came back to ESO, and I had my problem, which is Error <<1>> "(b)" with Win10 as well :/

@satyre74 I'm now downloading ESO on a separate PC for this same purpose, so keep us updated! :)

I will note the kick to login screen did occur during changing locations, from the main land to a solo delve, it was during the transition I got kicked, not during combat or in the middle of running around, as previously, so this is a marked improvement.

I have done a few experiments in the last few days and this is what I found as follows:

    Worked:
*Copying a working depot folder and transplanting it.
    * On wife's computer downloading game from scratch via wireless and wired connection, at separate times.
both worked perfectly. Her PC is W7 SP.1. Anitvirus set as defualt -AVG. Windows firewall also set as default
    same with our router/modem.

    Not Worked:
*W10, not by copying/transplanting and unable to download the game on that OS.
*Repair tool -broken for both of us. It hangs and/or freezes a reboot is required most times.
*Different compatibility mode in the launcher on mine. Wife's is at default. Nothing's selected.

So what we found is that W7 SP1 seems to agree with the way the launcher is coded, well for hers anyway.
W8.1 needs to have a a fresh install or a transplanted in, a working depot folder. Does not like patches or upgrades.
    Other games are fine!

I hope this might be able to help some of you.
I'm wondering if it would be better if the patch/upgrade can be implemented seamlessly in the back ground and still be able to log and play? -just a thought.

Been suffering this issue since the update as well, I can go hours of play with no problem or stagger through several back-to-back drops half of which force me to relaunch the game entirely after getting <<1>> errors.

I have noticed that many of the d/cs where you can't interact with anything but look to still be in-game comes immediately after quests progress or start ie; talk to NPC, accept quest, go to location X.

Got a ticket open, but so far no luck on finding a lasting solution.

@satyre74 Are you only getting occasionally kicked on location-changes? Let us know if you also have issues logging in to any characters. Glad to see there's at least some improvement.

@Noize I think the repair tool is broken for me too. Clearly there is some kind of problem with one computer's depot files becoming corrupted, in a way that cannot be fixed by Repair. I have W7 SP1 and it is not working out. I also tried W10, did not work.

@Lionxoft Keep in mind OP's issue was resolved by purchasing a new router. Have you tried a direct wired connection, bypassing router?

@evenfallacy Because several Error <<1>> threads have all been locked and consolidated into this one, I invite you to please describe exactly what is happening when you get it (see post #65 for categories so far). Also please let us know what you have already tried.

I'd like to add that Tech Support last wrote me on March 17. I asked for a status update on March 25 (something as simple as "hey, we're working on it" would suffice). It seems we, the players, will get our best support from ourselves.

For the <<1>> it's usually following a game crash or kick to login, but occasionally in trying to zone or teleport.
In fact, I can almost always expect either that or the 301 error following either a crash or kick.

Originally, I was playing the game directly connected to a router and modem in one.
Since then, I've tried having that in bridge mode and through a separate router. Updated everything (drivers, firmware, etcetc), did the PMTU Blackhole Detection as suggested by support, port forwarding, power cycled the router and flushed dns, deleting extra host files, disabling and removing all addons, running the game directly (without launcher), running the game as administrator, setting ESO priority to high, adding ESO as an exception to the firewall, completely disabling the firewall, and running it it compatibility modes 7 and 8.

When I attempted a pathping for the NA address, I did receive "10 ZENIMAX-MED.edge2.Dallas1.Level3.net [4.71.220.10] reports: Destination net unreachable."

I've also completely uninstalled the game and removed all files associated with it. In fact, that raised some issues on its own. I downloaded the game from their link on the account page, yet my files lacked the usersettings.txt that resulted in a black screen/not responding. Had to snag a copy of it from an older forum post in order to play as I've had to do from launch.

I'm currently using W8.1, with an arris modem and router in one. Someone from my ISP is supposed to come out this evening to ensure everything is in order on this end.

Kudos for trying to organize and make sense of all this.

Update: ISP came out and checked everything. Described the problem, and they can find nothing amiss.

    ____________________________________________
@nevertakenme_ESO Please keep in mind that OP's issue (Error <<1>> "a" version)has been resolved. He too had an ARRIS router; after purchasing a new router, his game runs fine (not saying the same will work for you). Have you tried a direct wired connection? You can also try replacing your existing depot folder with another, *working* depot folder from another PC. If that fails, you can try uninstalling the game, making sure to delete both the ESO folder in MyDocuments and the Zenimax Online folder. Then reinstall. If you have a ticket open, please provide your Incident ID# here. If not, create a ticket and keep in touch with us here.
    ____________________________________________

@evenfallacy Have you tried a direct wired connection? I've heard that error 301 may be an account issue that is sometimes resolved on megaserver restarts. If you know someone else who plays ESO, they can try logging in on your PC to verify this. When you uninstalled the game, did you delete the ESO folder in "My Documents" as well as the Zenimax Online folder? It seems odd that you had to find an old usersettings file manually.

As for error <<1>> in relation to your teleports (my same problem), take a look at your report.txt [howto: http://bit.ly/1NIJvyg ] under "Pathping RESULTS ", and "pathing: live.patcher.elderscrollsonline.com". Do you see 100% packet loss on any jump there? What is the IP address?

In late Feb., I sent Tech Support my report.txt, with similar "packet loss issues" (though I have no problems w/other games...). Their answer:
"I've taken a look at your connection and I'm seeing that you are experiencing packet loss at the 8th jump in your trace router, the specific IP address is 80.81.192.28, this could be causing the issue itself. Unfortunately we would need you to contact your ISP because there isn't anything we are able to do about packet loss issues at that IP address." They later said it's a problem with THAT PHYSICAL LOCATION.

Well, I have two other report.txt's, [March 18 & March 30] where I don't path through 80.81.192.28 at all (side by side comparisons below), because the destination IP for live.patcher.elderscrollsonline.com keeps changing. So is it really THAT physical location's issue? Seems unlikely to me, since forum users from US, Latin America and China have had my same exact problems. In March I had 100% packet loss at a totally different IP -- 193.232.245.38 -- not the one in Germany at 80.81.192.28. Same jump. Different location. Now, it's April 4. I ran a new report.txt and I'm back to the packet loss at 80.81.192.28 and the destination IP is back to the original one.

What's really going on here? Perhaps someone more knowledgeable will know?

I haven't put in a ticket as typically the standard answer is to run repair which, in most cases, does nothings.

The game will be come non interactive with items and NPC's and I will ave to log out or I will get randomly dropped to the log in screen. This happens in multiple zones in multiple environments including dungeons.

Once this happens and I am kicked out to the log in screen, randomly will receive a <<1>> error code trying to log back in.

Yes, my original state was a direct connection and I deleted the ESO folder from My Documents.

Upon further observing patterns, I only get 301 after trying to log back in immediately after a game crash where it asks me to submit a report. Probably trying to log back in too quickly (though this behavior is not seen with the kick-to-login or being unable to interact/logout until I crash client manually).

My (type "b") issue remains unresolved. I opened a ticket describing it (150404-002795), and made a video of it happening. It's of course extremely boring to watch, as it's just loading screen after loading screen, but IME it's easier sometimes to troubleshoot or compare problems if you can actually see it. That time it took 4 tries to move from the Elden Root Outlaw's Refuge to Grahtwood, but it's sometimes taken up to 8 tries for me.

I've worked out a little routine that makes it at least a little quicker to get through when it happens:

    1. When transferring zones, I watch the little Ouroboros loading thingie in the lower right corner. If it disappears and reappears (not just pauses or flickers) within 15 seconds or so, the new zone will always load successfully (for me).
    2. If it does not disappear and reappear within 15 seconds, I Alt-F4 to quit the game and restart so I don't have to wait the 45 seconds or whatever for the `<<1>>` error to show up.
    3. If when I restart the game and select my character, the "Requesting character load" box shows for more than about 10 seconds, I Alt-F4 and try again. I once left to get a coffee when that box was up, and came back and it was still spinning, so I don't wait for it to error at all anymore.

This is of course only mildly less frustrating than waiting for the <<1>> error and logging in again, but it does cut down the tedium of zoning a bit for me so I thought I'd pass it along.
    There is no level six.

I'm getting this now too. Game has played fine all day after the patch. I logged out to get dinner, come back and I get booted to the login screen after maybe 2 or 3 minutes with no error. The announcements below the login button say that they can't be loaded and I sometimes get "login timeout" when trying to log back in. I've gotten <1> once just a minute ago when I selected a character and tried to login with him and it dumped me back to the login screen before he loaded into the game. Typically, it just dumps me to the login screen without an error.

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 playing on wifi currently.

OK, mine may have been a wifi issue, but I'm not certain. I've played on wifi ever since the day Unlimited launched and haven't had any issues until tonight. I just plugged in a cable and I haven't been booted yet. So either the server fixed itself, or it was wifi. I'll post back if it happens again.

And it is not my internet guild wars 2 dota 2 and lol are working without any issues. It is your game fix it!!!!

I am having same issue as OP. I am crashing to login screen with no error after about 10-20 minutes of playing.
Here is something interesting; As evenfallacy said, I too am using ARRIS router, but mine is ARRIS TG862 Modem and Router from Comcast XFINITY. It could be a long-shot, but is anyone else who is having same problem using an ARRIS router or modem?

No German fiber connection with a modem connected to a Asus nighthawk r7500 I use a lan connection not the WiFi. I get normally 250mb/s
