Racial Passive Pool

There are similar topics to this one, but this one is to discuss a specific solution related to racial passives. I know some people are against races changes and I understand the argument. But ZOS has completely redesigned the game since launch and now people are unhappy with their racial passives.

Proposed solution: Create a pool of passives and let people choose 3 that they want.

Again I understand that people think you shouldn't be able to change your race, but many of us care about min/max'ing and want to design certain builds. You can't completely redesign a game and then leave players dead in the water.

That would indeed kill any TES spirit from racial differences and that being a meaningful choice in the game.

The only race that truly got negatively changed with 1.6 was Argonians. Other races with higher stat percentage (especially Imperial) became much more powerful/desired though. They need balancing, not to be turned into buffet line IMHO.

That's the point - it's not a meaninful choice right now; you have no choice. They change the game and leave you stuck with where you were. You have a lot of lore in this game - but this interferes with gameplay in a big way... this solution is one where we meet in the middle.

    OK,

    I choose

    1. Imperial Health % Bonus
    2. Breton Magicka % Bonus
    3. Bosmer Stam Regen % Bonus

This could be done with some thought.
    Only 1 max stat allowed.
    Only 1 max regeneration allowed.
    That sort of thing.

However a better implementation might be for each race to have a tiered set of available passives from the pool. Thus races would still be lore accurate and a greater selection of abilities would be available. The tiers of abilities would prevent overpowering combinations to be selected.

So, as an example, Argonian passives might include stealth passives, amphibious, poison and disease resistance, healing received, healing delivered, and stamina and magicka max stats. But you could not have magicka, stamina and healing passives as they would all be on the same tier.

Abnur Tharn is Imperial and uses Magica, is he untalented in what he's doing? You can always think of individuals within their race. Don't mix lore and prejudice

I have fun with pretty much every race/class combo I play, but I also don't min/max or use "this weeks elite build" template.

Mixing passives would be a bad idea.

I say keep the same sets as there are now, just don't tie them to race. Let people choose them at character creation as their birth sign or whatever.

    Example:
Nord Passives are now Warrior Passives.
Any race can choose the sign of the Warrior.
Thus any race can have those specific passives.

Choices would still be meaningful, but wouldn't be tied to your character's aesthetic race.

The Altmer sure have a lot of swordsmen for a race that is supposedly focused only on Magicka...

Even if you want to say "that's not typical for their race", well neither is having your soul trapped in Coldharbour. There's always exceptions to the rule.

I'd agree with this approach of having to pick a group of 3 passives, but it should be able to be changed after birth. The point is that we need to be able to change this as ZOS has compeltely changed the game and now we are stuck with passives that don't align with the builds we want to design.

Before they start working on something like this (although i find it a decent idea, but only if you can also change it AFTER you have created your account) they should work on the Argonians.
They are the only Race without anything decent, and deserve some love before any other race.

I personally want to see some of the actives come back, like the Dunmer Fire aura, Khajiit Night Vision, The Nord fear shout, the Imperial Calm Shout, The Altmer Mana regeneration, Argonian Health Regeneration, The Bosmer Animal Friendship, the Osmer Rage, I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two actives.

I'd also love to see some of the cooler passives return, like the Khajiit being able to use their claws as weapons. Especially now that their models actually HAVE claws to use. This more than anything makes me sad.

This should extend to the class skillsets. I'm actually tired of the "picked" classes, give us the ability to completely choose our skill sets damnit. This is what made other TES games truly great. I get that it's an MMO but my point is, to break the mold of the MMO standard you have to go above and beyond. This would make for damn near infinite possibilities. I also hate the idea of having to be stuck using a specific weapon to use skills. Whatever happened to the traditional TES healing system? I like swords, and I'd love using a sword and having spells, or healing and whatnot instead of being forced to use a staff to heal. Also the lightning staff should be an infinite channel instead of a channel and a burst at the end. On top of all of that hate the idea of "levels" but that doesn't seem to ever change. Why can't we have an Ultima Online like system where it's based on skills solely and has no "level" mechanic.
