Naming Crafting Equipment

Thought it would be pretty cool if you could name your own gear that is crafted to Epic (purple) quality and higher. Think they had something like it in Skyrim where I could name my created gear but I can recall for certain. Anyone else think it would be cool to name a set or item you created?

It would be nice, even if it became bound afterwards - would probably be a hit with the roleplayers as well.

In Skyrim, you could change a name when enchanting, but the base item name remained the same. In Skyrim, you could have made 'Vaerth's dagger of farts'. It might be nice to do something like that in ESO, but it would really only make sense to personalize end game items.

I think you have it right there as to the reason why this feature will never get implemented. If you say farts you will be able to say a whole lot worse.

I thought this thread was going to go a different direction....i.e., why aren't the crafted (and dropped) sets named more logically so that one can ACTUALLY sort their inventory and expect to see like set pieces grouped together with like in our inventory. E.g. "Gauntlets of the Seducer" should be "Seducer's Gauntlets" so that every set piece can be grouped together when you sort alphabetically.

    Oh well...

    *sigh* *smh*

Regardless of my OP, I do agree with this quite a bit!

I got to disagree with you there. It would not be impossible to have only your inventory display the name you have given the item. Like the dyes, the item would become bound anyway. It would not be hard to have another name field for an item, yet still keep the original name field accessible. For example, let's say you have a "Greatsword of Hrunding's Rage". You decide to change the name to "PvE Weapon One" so you know which is which in your inventory. This could be done by right clicking on the item, have a "Rename Item" option then the second naming field would be accessible. Only to your account would the second naming field be displayed, including your account bank. If you link it to chat, only the primary naming field would be displayed, and they could even have a notation on the bottom saying that the item is "Named" like they do with "Crafted" item. This is basic database functions here. There is no reason this cannot be done.

And for RP? Absolutely it would come in handy. Having multiple outfits for multiple functions or guilds makes figuring out what is what a long and frustrating process.
