Templar vs. Sorcerer vs. Nightblade PVE Melee

Hi everyone,

I am looking to make a new Stamina based character either as Dual Wield or 2Hand.

I am not a major pet kind of guy but I do not mind them as in it would be a deal breaker.

I am mostly a solo based pver looking for simple things like achievement gathering etc. Crafting my own gear and hunting for unique skins (like Guild Wars 2 cosmetics)

I am not crazy about being the fastest trial runner but I do want to be a trial runner one day (not hardcore).

I love the typical classes:
- Necromancer
- Paladin / Templar idea
- Spellsword (my favorite)
- Battlemage
- Ninja / Samurai style

I like classes that move typically fast (fast ps as dots or quick burst) followed by fast movement speed.

I like the concept of Blazing Shield in the Templar and the tankiness and synergy with stamina.
I like the Sorc for the spellsword concept but I don't know how it will flow as a DW character in lter levels? Thundering presence, pets, curse Rending slashes etc.
I like the Nightblade for the spellsword idea and the Ninja concept but I felt it was burst DPS and not very strong overall in PVE...

I am not really interested to much into Dragonkngiths - I like the combo of Searing Strike + Rending Slash for the dot damage and te synergy combo but everyone runs DK...I hate being like everyone....

I am anti staff (unless its Gandalf style :P staff + sword epic).

What do you bro's think?

if you could suggest a main class "Sorc Templar or NB" followed by a theme class and how you would build it that would really be nice of you guys :)

Sorry for the long question but just need some help...

Been playing with a Nightblade 2 handed Ninja a fair bit since the update. Don't like giving up my Magickablade, but the swap has turned out alright. Works a lot better now than it did before 1.6.

Shadowy Disguise, Rally, Ambush, Mirage, Surprise Attack with Soul Harvest on Ultimate.

    It's pretty solid.

Can move Mirage to the second bar as a swap-buff and replace it on the main bar with either Killer's Blade or Executioner for anything with an execute phase.

My second bar is Bow, but if you want to do with Dual Wield at least plan for Flying Blade to have a ranged attack (aside from the gap closer) of some kind.
May not be as necessary in PvE as it is in PvP though...

Dark Shades, Relentless Focus and Mass Hysteria make good additions to the second bar if you want to use it as a utility kit and keep two-handed for damage.

Personally using 7 Medium Night's Silence (5) + Ashen Grip (3) + Shadow Walker (3), but you will probably want to adjust sets to your own playing preferences.

    I have a Magicka Templar (VR9).
I spent my CPs in Spell Cost Reduction and boosts to my Light Armor.
I invested my Attribute Points into Health.
I use my Blazing Shield and my Puncturing Sweep mainly.
    I wear Purple VR8 gear 5/1/1 (5 cloth, 1 leather, 1 plate) - 5 Seducer & 3/4 Magnus (depends if I have a 2H staff or 2 daggers)
I use the Mundus for Magicka Recovery (Atronach)

Nb has the strongest burst DPS in pve of any class, it's good for a spellsword as well w/ a wrecking blow 2 Hand build

    So nightblade vs. Sorcerer.

in pve (not worrying about highend trials) which is overall better?

as I understand it to be - Nightblades have burst (isn't that more pvp based instead of sustained?) I also understand it that nightblades don't really have any AOE abilities to help clear out trash mobs while leveling like the Templar or Sorcerer

Sorcerers have great utility (null field, pets, curse which I guess is a burst attack?)

Does a Sorc do well with Duel Wield?

Nightblade duel wield. Will list the base skill not the morphs as you are looking to start a new character.

Put the following on your bar and use in this order. Great for clearing large groups or single mobs solo.

    Teleport Strike (assassination)
    Drain Power (siphoning)
Whirlwind (duel wield) spam until health is low
Flurry (duel wield) single target DPS and weave with 1 heavy attack between each use.
Assassins Blade (assassination) (300% damage finisher). When health drops to 25%

Stick with the stamina morphs for class abilities and stack stamina and you should be good. Lots of other skills to compliment but this will give you the bare bones skills to develop the rest.

I hate typing on a tablet so this is abbreviated. For those who may recommend Two handed sword over duel wield for the damage shield and heal over time - I've played both and still feel duel wield is superior for PvE and with the right morphs you get more mileage out of this. If you feel too squishy you can add immovable on another bar to pop before teleport strike. I have fun with Volcanic Rune thrown first from another bar. By the time you teleport in they are up in the air as you drain power. By the time they stand up, they are almost dead. Plus it's faster pace and more fun in my opinion.

Throw on 5 pc heavy and 2 medium and one hand and shield on your other bar and there will not be much you can't solo.

In all honesty: Do not play a sorcerer since we are the weakest class by far in the game. In PVP we do ok, but in PVE we do significantly less damage than other classes as melee and we cannot keep that damage up for long either.

Plus we can only tank things that a dragonknight can "tank" as DD, meaning we can only tank things that need no tank.

Plus we are the second worst healers in game.

Plus we need pets to do damage with all the problems the pets introduce to the group / raid like increasing the incoming damage to the raid (Aetherian Archive Mage's chain lightning) and soaking up healing intended for players and unwanted boss pulls and pets attacking crowd controlled mobs thereby breaking crowd control and the reduced number of ability slots because pet abilities are toggles which must reside on both weapon bars.

Everything you have mentioned is around a stamina build...soooo... try Nightblade. Sorcs have no affinity with Stamina at the moment, few (If any) decent stamina morphs of skills, & nothing particularly in the passives which will help a weapon user (Everything is designed around staff's it seems..... & pets!). ZoS has said they will look into improving this a day or so ago but also said they don't know when.

The nightblade skill lines & passives are all set up & designed to aid the use of the weapons you want to use so would feel like the best fit.... unless you suddenly develop a craving for pets with a crappy AI! ;)
