Pet Control

I've seen a number of times where people asked about controlling pets and I could be slow on this. I never noticed until after the 1.6 patch that there is a command in the keyboard bindings for "Command Pet". By default this is set to "y". In order to use it, you hold down the key and then left click on a target, rather than light attack, your pet(s) will rush forth and attack the target.

They seem to not switch either. For example I can send them to distract a melee mob while I focus on a healer.

Personally I found "y" to be too far of a stretch for retargeting them in combat so I switched it to "t".

The only downside I've seen, is sometimes my clannifear starts refusing to fight all together. I'm still monitoring this before I send a bug report because I don't know yet if it just sometimes happens, or specifically happens when commanding them to attack. Also it's noteworthy you can't command them to attack from horseback.
And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. All that is left, is whispers of the adventures they had.

I've had this happen sometimes, including since 1.6.6 patch. Usually recasting will correct this. Could be worth a bug report.

I tried playing a sorc today for the first time since Update 6 and I noticed the clannfear periodically refused to join in the attack even when I would specifically direct it to do so. I didn't have enough play time to figure out what was causing this, perhaps it's initially caused by a terrain issue?

When it refused to attack, I could order it to return back to me but it would refuse to attack anything. Only way to fix this was to destroy my clannfear and summon another. I too haven't filed an in-game /bug report yet because I hoped to better understand when the issue occurs.

You are correct, I forgot to mention that recasting does resolve it for a while. It seems to only be the clan though, I haven't had the twilight lockup like that. From what I saw, the clan will still attack if it is attacked, but won't go out of its way to engage the enemy.

Same here, the clannfear would just stand next to me unless it got hit by an aoe or something. I also hadn't used my sorc since before 1.6 His build wasn't working in the VR so I put him on hold to see how the change affected him. After 1.6 he still did terrible with his old build, so I respect'd to pets and tried it out.

It's been /bugged many a time before and it's yet to be fixed.

Evidently, Clannfears have a mind of their own... they are then useful to recover a small amount of magicka and health by destroying them and recasting.

I've had similar problems pre 1.6.Posted about it here: http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/153468/sorcerer-pet-control#latest

Only played a sorc for a few levels but the whole pet thing was pretty buggy.

Have never actually had the Y command work and pets don't fight half the time its why so many sorcerers are rageing about none pet build wile Zos seems to want to force us to use pet builds.

I actually didn't know about the Pet Command + Right Click you mentioned in your post. I'll have to try it out and see. I had only been working with auto-attack and the attack command. I didn't have any issue with them actually reacting to being hit, just the clan wouldn't actual go.

Yeah I hadn't really used a pet build before except a "hunter" I toyed around with using the bow, using the pets to try to draw mobs into a close area. I'm still seeing how it works out, but so far using the pets are way better than the lightening staff/2h build I was using. It worked great until VR and then he just got massacred before the dps did enough damage to matter.
