Dunmer and the Pact

The Pact. A Necessity. Nothing more. And yet where ever i go i am basically forced to cozy up to Argonians, do their quests, listen to their annoying voices and little problems, and having just gone through Shadowfen i feel like leaving a comment on here about everything that makes this game feel so damn wrong when you're a hardcore Dunmer player like myself.

I felt like early Stonefalls was fine, was slightly annoyed by the occasional artificial feel of how suddenly Dunmer and Argonians are buddies now, but since i could skip a few quests it was fine. Upper Stonefalls & Deshaan were probably the single best and most enjoyable questing areas i have played through. Daedric ruins, Dunmer Houses, Khajiit Slaves, Ashlander tribes...Tribunal Temple.... it was marvelous.

And then i am basically forced to go to Shadowfen until hitting lvl 30. It is the worst and most tedious area and from actually caring about the quests like before, i saw myself just clicking "continue" basically to grind my way through it simply because i could not give a **** about what was actually happening.

The main issue for me is: DON'T force people into areas they hate. Give Dunmer lvl areas from 1-50 across Morrowind. Do the same for Nords and Argonians etcetc, and let people decide where they want to level. And seriously, with lizard and catmen plucking saltrice on Hlaalu farms just a few years later and just a few months ago basically, do you really expect me to believe that we have a sudden urge for Nords and Lizards to marry Dunmer women and vice versa?

I can't help but feel some overzealous people in the dev team thought it would be an awesome idea to make the game more politically correct.
But...as this is a game, not RL, bigotry, racism, slavery, druguse etcetcetc are part of the lore and just kicking it overboard for some artificial hippiepact... no thanks.

And that is the end of my rant.

No you're not. You can stay in Deshaan till level 28ish (I think!) and then go straight to Eastmarch (though you may need to ask a player to group with you to go there).

So basically, you want triple the number of zones the game currently has.

I agree it would be nice to have less linear zone progression, more choice in terms of where we want to level up, but I feel you're asking for too much. If you're interested in nothing but the Dunmer culture, you'd be better off playing TES III: Morrowind.

As a Aldmeri Dominion player I personally didn't like Shadofen myself but it was more to do with you not being able to go 30 feet without something trying to kill you. Its like in Skyrim the first time you go to Riften...ride, dismount, kill wolves, ride, dismount kill bear, ride, dismount kill thief...

Then of course there is the issue of all the boots I lost to that mud. :P Personally I like the Argonian people more than those slavers in Morrowind...I only wish I could slaughter House Dres.

@Rosveen... yes i do. Tamriel "Unlimited" covers about 40% of actual Tamriel. Considering there is so much unused space, and hoping they don't want to extend the level cap to 80 or more, that space can partially be converted into alternative leveling zones. Makes for a better replay experience as well.

And no i am not. But the lore-"bending" kind of has limits imo. I mean looking how Morrowind in TES III was and this being long before those events it's kinda hard to imagine this as a likely scenario.

    For the Queen, comrade!

Also, argonians are nice. They will arise ... someday ... maybe in 4th Era.

Shadowfen was a bit depressing when I went through with my dunmer.

But going through with an Argonian is completely different.

    I thought that was cool.

We've had two zone updates since launch, the last one in September. There won't be another one at least until June. At this pace of updates, do you think it is feasible for ZOS to create alternative levelling zones when they could be developing veteran zones for their playerbase bored to tears by running Undaunted pledges over and over and over again?

    It's not going to happen.

@AlnilamE Exactly what i thought. If i was as passionate about Argonians as i am about Dunmer that zone would have been amazing. But some people like this and others something else. And putting all of them into the same melting pot with so many lore issues involved damages the experience somewhat.

@Rosveen That was a rant. Not a realistic expectation. I hardly expect much unless subscriber numbers will increase alot over the course of the year. Right now it seems they are polishing stuff up and try to keep people happy, which yea, doesn't leave much time for additional content for lower levels. But should they lower their buy price during the year i don't see why that wouldn't happen. I've seen a lot of positive recent reviews and people might come to appreciate the game once it loses its original bad reputation. And with that in mind, asking for more isn't really a bad idea :)

And since i am already at it, i checked last night on how the other races fare and it seems Orcs have only 1 zone which is also shared with Bretons. So they might actually be worse off then Dunmer.

And lastly about the couples: To keep it lore friendly... Dun/Ald/Bos/Orsi-Mer among each other work, Imperials, Nords, Bretons and Redguards work, Argonians are egg laying reptiles so that won't damage the lore as they can't have offspring and Khajiit are a whole different species of mammal. So since they insist on doing that, they might as well do it right.
