Are you talking about PvP? II take it you were specced for magicka? If you were looking at Ambush with a low stam then it would appear this way?
Here is what I see. My max magicka is 22802. My spell damage is 2114. Spell crit is 38%. Lotus Fan is 1895 direct and 2472 over what I presume is 6 seconds? That's how long the snare is at least. My un morphed Teleport Strike was 4800 about. That's more than the Lotus Fan.
I don't know what type of magicka Melee night blade that you are playing but I'm going for a high burst kill from stealth. It used to be that ambush, concealed weapon and a light attack weave worked pretty well. Throw in a soul harvest if charged and finish with impale. That's not really possible now. Magicka melee NB has been going down hill steadily. First came the stealth damage nerf because of all the bows and now this. Very discouraging. I've gone to a fing Destruction Staff now and I have been running around if a skirt. I'm not happy about that.

✭Lotus fan has its place. I use it as a nightblade tank and on my stamina build its one of the only abilities I choose the magica morph. Just don't morph teleport strike and you still have your single target magica version of ambush. Almost...0 -

The fact is - as a magica nb there is now no damage gap closer.... none at all. Lotus fan is not even a factor. It is soooo useless it may as well be an empty slot.
I really cannot believe zos thinks this is ok. Buffing stamina does not entail gimping magica in my book.

✭It's not just the Magic Melee NB having issues. The from stealth damage reduction and bow nerf is just wiping rogue stam builds. NB the tanky classes are now pulling huge increases in DPS. it makes no sense. DK heavy attack build does more than a NB snipe from stealth. LOLs.2 -

✭They should just offer 3-4 morphs for most or all abilities. One magika and one stamina morph for each. Perhaps some adjustment to power of the ability based on the type of attack it's base is. For instance if its a physical attack such as ambush the more powerful attack might be stamina based but the Magika version might have a longer attack range since it uses more Magika for the teleport.1 -
Sythias✭✭✭Yup, agreed. Lotus fan just isn't a viable morph. As a stam nightblade, I prefer to have my gap closer magicka based so it doesn't eat into my stam pool. I tried using lotus fan initially, but found that the lack of stun/immobilize is totally underwhelming. The snare is very meh and losing the utility of a short stun/root isn't worth the trade off. As such, I'm currently using the unmorphed version of teleport strike. Please make lotus fan viable and add an immobilize/stun!Sythias Blackhand - Imperial Nightblade - Trueflame NA DC

Spangla✭✭✭✭Yes the morphed version is better - Why they think it's ok to basically steal one of the magica nb's bread and butter skills is beyond me.... Stamina builds already have super high damage openers so they really didn't need it. Poor design by a poor dev team.
Has anyone else notice the stealth nerf to the ambush death stroke combo? You can no longer ambush then hit straight away..... It's ambush person on horse then death stoke the air behind them or not at all....
Dev team hates nb class and has no idea what they are doing balance wise the end.2 -

Just to play devil's advocate, it may be by design that Magicka NB doesn't have a high-damage gap closer. Magicka NBs have access to a much larger arsenal of decent ranged abilities.
Stamblades, in comparison, have access to the bow skill line and whatever gap closers weapons have (shield charge, crit rush, etc).0 -

It does do almost no damage, but it puts a DoT on all NPC's in the area and slows them all, one of the few AOE CC's NB's even have. It's great to pull initial threat on an AOE pack.

ScruffyWhiskers✭✭✭✭✭Well I'm happy stam NB's have ambush and PvE tank NB's have a magicka based AoE CC with snare. Maybe ZoS can come up with something for the magicka NB melee players who don't have any magicka based gap closers. I think Sithis is on my side for this one. Don't remember him telling me to snare a whole bunch of targets (and the snare is so weak besides) and tickle them a little bit before I killed them.
What is up with the snare seriously. Everybody I hit must have shuffle on their bar. I never see the purge flash but they still take off running. I mean the guys who don't have immovable up and I get that nice "Immune" notification when I hit them. That's always a pick me up.0 -

Why is it valuable to a pve tank?
It does no damage and offers nothing?
No 'good' nb tanks I know would even consider having it on their bar. As a tank you are most certainly not there to do poor aoe damage.

Resto / Destro / Siphoning / Mage's / Undaunted / Alliance War / etc?
Stamblades have Bow / Flying Blade / Silver Bolts. That's it.
That's why stamblades need gap closers more than builds who are comfortable dealing damage at long range, in general. Clearly this doesn't pertain to Bows, but the vast majority of other skills that stamblades have access to are melee range.

NO ONE uses it(except skill hipsters) and its always been useless since the beginning of the game, where as lotus fan was good at one point(that one point might have been during beta though idk). I mean it serves a purpose, but its purpose is entirely useless in almost every situation making literally everyone avoid putting it on their bars. PVP or PVE it doesn't matter I have not used it since I first unlocked it. Seems to me all that's been achieved in this patch is a more laggy, zergy, boring, no pvx allowed, slower, more basic,, glitchy, buggy version of the last patch. 1.6 class and race wise is so much further away from balance than the last one.0
