Tanking in Cyrodiil good or bad idea?

Hi,

I'm not an expert but I started to lvl a DK. My idea is to tank in pvp, lot of armor and magic resist, HP, extended chains, hardened armor, unstoppable, reveberating bash, furious leap or corrosive armor, more or less this are the skills I have in mind.

But of course this is only an idea and I don't know if in the practice it would be satisfactory. So I know that there are people that do a lot of pvp and they know how is pvp, what works and whats stupid more or less and etc.

I would like to hear some suggestions, because I would not like to lose my time if this would not work. I know pvp is a lot of aoe dmg, zerging and etc, so if for example I would die easy and be no help, then I would like to know it so I can abandon this idea and think in something else.

What I want is tank, be resistent, dont do too much damage and take people with extended chains to the death. I don't one to be one shotted xD.

Taunt doesn't work on players so tanks are less important in PVP. They need to have a mechanism where it is viable cause absorbing damage from others could be just as fun as healing them from a support standpoint
I'm kind of a small deal!

Prepare yourself to join a zerg cuz in the vs1, 1vsX you will be useless, since you cannot kill anyone in a full tank set.

After some time you will unlock the guard/shielding skill or whatever it is called I don't remember right now, which could be part of a tank setup. But I am not sure it is efficient. Anyone has feedback on that ability ?

Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! - Spells and incantations for those with the talent to cast them!

I tried tanking in Cyrodil at the beginning. You pretty much hold up your shield for as long as you can run head long into the fray and hope somebody heals you while you take unreal amounts of damage. You also hope that some other people will be smart enough to see that you are tanking and then start to pick off the enemy players around you. Of course if you form an organized group a tank decoy can be employed in a much more efficient manner.

My suggestion to you is sure, make a tank for PvP but surround yourself with peoople that will support you and every once in a while land a hit on the other players so you get AP.

ok so 1vX is bad because I do no damage and other people will have healing stuffs, absorb and tons of damage, so in the end I die.

But for example, I go in first line and I pull people with the chains to my group, would not that help? I wanted to tank, pull enemies, stun and let my team kill.

Like everything I would not run in like a crazy waiting for heals, I would aproach I try to pull people. In a situation of massive pvp I would try to root em, or hold em the max time I can so others of my "competent" team would kill em.

    Is that a bad idea?

As stated above, If you are trying to do this solo....might not be a "perfect plan"; other people that you have randomly grouped with may not like or understand that style of play, but if you are with a group of people working TOGETHER., who understand what you are trying to do, you could make it work.

Works very well for me when I am in pvp.

Don't expect to be killing anyone 1v1 and you will be fine. As long as you don't have derps around you, you will be a viable asset to the campaign. If they just let you soak damage without focus firing the one you are keeping busy you will be pretty useless as you will be ignored until the DD/Healer are brought down.

    ^This^

I'm a bow user that hides in the shadows and I always keep an eye out for the guys with shields. When I see them charge forward, I try to pick off as many targets that is looking his or her way. I mean, that's how I can stand a chance in a fight. You distract them, I'll pick 'em off you.

You don't need a taunt, you just need to go ape-!@#$ in front of them.

I don't know how many of us play this way, but we're out there.

    @yodased :sunglasses:

Tanking in Cyrodiil isn't so much about "Tanking" as it is about distracting the enemy so your teammates can kill them. When Yoda and I used to run around all guns' blazing, name taking, ass kicking, he'd be the beefier target that I'd try to get behind so the enemies targeted him. (No offense Yoda  ) Then I'd charge into the blob from the side and we'd both go ham on them, sometimes it worked, other times.. We just got inside Bleakers outpost and fought ten people at once for a few minutes before dying... Fun times Yoda.... Fun times.. Oh and then there was @Gorthax who could never keep up...

On my Sap Tank I'll charge directly into an enemy group and try to just cause confusion and disorganize them, most of the time it works, if it doesn't work it still does, because they'll all be focused on me and won't see that the large group charging them is preparing to give them surprise butt secks.

    Hello:
I have been playing ESO since day 1. Yes, it is my first MMO and the learning curve was, and is still steep for me. I finally started my T3 Tank and was really enjoying the build. But, Update 6 totally ruined my build!!!!! Thanks to those people who must be self described as a genius.
Not a happy camper! The candy is fun, stealing and learning new recipes, but you ruined my character. Never forgive you! Oh yes, I am reading in the forum that the change is for the better, and makes the game more fun. Seems more likely it is done to insure job security!!
    Thanks

I tank in PVP, works great in a group with voice (non zerg).

I also play "bait" by hanging round on roads, near dungeons etc. 2-3 people will unstealth and jump me...

and the 2-3 people I'm with will unstealth and flank the hell out of them while they try and kill me.

Oh, my.. here I am a poooooor Orc templar, with a broken horse... oh my.. what shall I ever do.

Spin around and open and close your map a lot. look lost. I think there may be a skyshard around here someplace...

    ooh a piece of candy!
