1.6 Ingredient Prices at Grocer?

redwoodtreesprite2
I am gathering and posting cooking mats as a way of paying for vault upgrades and such. (Found a few places with containers that are not steal type.)

I want to have a fair price, that is half or less of what grocers charge. But my provisioning level is very low. I can only see 12 ingredients at grocer.

Is there a list of prices at grocers of all cooking mats that are sold?

All in game grocers sell for 150 gold, from what I have seen.

I have not looked at all the grocers in 1.6. But even on my L50 Provisioner, I only see about 12 or so items (did not count, but it was not a huge list). Prior to 1.6 different grocers in the different zones sold things based on the level of the zone.

I buy most of my mats at Guild Kiosks TBH, and if you search the ones at lower level zones, you should find what your looking for. For less than 150 an ingredient.

Also, the Provisioning Writs and Hirelings will have you buried in provisioning mats if you do those consistently.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I found out from another thread that this is all deliberate. No grocer (or other vendor) sells more than these ingredients.

Also, since you have to be of the level to handle dungeons and out of the way container areas, that limits heavily the ability to gather mats if you want to bring up a provisioner. If you don't have higher levels, well, too bad.

Sigh, I have a strong suspicion there will be food and drink in the crown store, and they want to make sure it is hard to compete with that with crafted food.

And I refuse to do the craft writs they seem determined to force on us.

Any bandit delve will have crates and barrels galore - more containers than bandits. In glenumbra, illesan tower is level 8 mobs, fort cryptwatch is level 14. Both are simple to clear with a level 10 toon (my level 13 thief/home invader routinely kills lvl 24 mobs even with what seems like a 50% miss chance)
Meanwhile, writs are so easy to do. Pre-update I had seven toons doing the prov writ every single day. It only takes about three minutes per toon if you pre-make all the food/drink to last a month and make sure your bag has five empty slots.

Well that's foolish of you. The provisioning writs have an amazing return on investment, and they take absolutely no time to do: all you do is prepare a bunch of the food and drink in advance that you know the writs will be looking for (keeping in mind that any good provisioner will have the passives that give you multiple food items/drinks for each ingredient), and then you keep them in your inventory, and for the next few weeks all you have to do every day is grab a writ, and immediately turn it in (because you already have what it's asking for in your inventory).

Heck, if you have multiple characters, you can have your main provisioner make all the food/drinks in advance, and then each character does the writs using the food made by your main provisioner.

It's basically free gold, ingredients, recipes, and XP. Oh, and inspiration too if you're not already level 50 in provisioning.

Oh, and for the record, you can be a level 3 fresh out of Coldharbour and there are still appropriately-leveled areas where you can collect a ton of provisioning writs from bad guys. For example, in DC there's a mine in Daggerfall (in the city itself, by the pond up close to the castle) with bandits that are all level 3 or 4 (don't remember which), and you can grab a ton of provisioning mats from there. Or you can go to Stros M'Kai and grab a ton of provisioning writs from the dungeon where you go to rescue that rogue guy - the enemies there are all level 2.

But are all the ingredients turning up at the lowest level areas? Will I find mats for higher tier cooking in the first level areas?
  • ola.wilhelmssonb16_ESO
All the ingredients for sale at the grocers are for food. Is this intentional? Or will there be a separate vendor for basic drink ingredients? Prior to 1.6 grocers sold both food and drink ingredients.

Yes, with update 1.6, all tiered ingredients have been removed, so you will be able to find all the ingredients at every level.

Also, it looks like grocers are the only ones selling ingredients, and they are all fruits/veggies, for 150/each.

At one time on the PTS, grocers were selling all the ingredients, while chefs were selling food ingredients and brewers were selling drink ingredients (and this was also mentioned as being the case in one of their official news posts on the Provisioning revamp) - and, they were all selling for 10g! Ah well - I think you'd have to be pretty desperate to spend 150g on one ingredient to make food that has at most a value of 4-5g. Even with the passives, you're still losing money (unless you can sell that food for lots of gold in a guild store - I don't know, I've never bothered).

Of course, if you're buying the ingredient in order to have food to use, rather than because you want to make a profit, then it totally makes sense... Especially if you're short on time before a raid and don't have time to go and get ingredients for free, and hope that you come up with the one that you need.

Yes, if you desperately need more food then, yes, it's worth it. For me, I've never sold my food. I've always made it to use, but I would still cringe having to pay 150g for just one ingredient. And it's a lot of money for a low-level player just getting into the craft.

For a low-level player just getting into the craft, it's absolutely a lot of money. Actually, that's kind of unfortunate, because a low-level player just getting into the craft is much less likely to have a good alternate source of the ingredients than a higher level player who can more easily afford to pay 150 gold each.

Hmm, when I get a chance I think I'll post a PSA thread with guides to good places for low-level characters to grab provisioning ingredients in the different starting zones.
