Large download / slow speed

So 1.6 went live and it's a 13Gb update. I am wondering if this is normal because it seems like quite a big download. Also, my speed is VERY slow for my internet. It downloads usually around 3-4mb/s and never goes over 5mb/s when my speedtest says I should be downloading at upwards of 40Mb/s, 10 times the speed it's currently at.

mine came in at around 3-4MB/sec (normal for Australia), which is my normal d/l ceiling. wierdly though, it took 1 hr to get through the first 3%, then a couple hours later i checked it again and it had finished! i expected, and roughly calculated it would take 5+hrs to finish, i really expected 13GB to take way longer so not sure what went on there...

also i dont believe "speed tests", they use dedicated links and provide unrealistics speed results , your test shows nearly 10MB/sec., which seems about normal. make sure you don't misread the difference between Mega-Bytes(MB) and Mega-bits(Mb). and weather the Speed Tests you use also know the difference, or at least use the correct form of the words.

    Hey OP.

Your theoretical max download speed is only half of the story. It doesn't matter if you have a 300Mbps download if the server uploading the file to you can only upload at 10Mbps, for example.

Remember too that 4MB/s = 32Mb/s so in reality it's going at 10-15% of your theoretical maximum from the speed test which is about what most people seem to get. I'd be very happy that you are getting 4-5MB/s if I were you, people with similar internet connections barely break 1MB/s.

All you can do is make sure the relevant ports are forwarded and that you aren't using any high-bandwidth things like torrents etc and if that's the case then the ESO server is uploading to you at the highest speed it can. Their end and their network connection is what matters in this case, not yours.

Sorry, I was writing mb/s as MB/s and Mbps megabits. I have a 300+Mbps download speed which is around 40MB/s. Steam usually downloads at 25-30MB/s, and all unthrottled download connections for me usually go between 10-15 on distant servers and it doesn't make sense that I download this slow. I don't understand the point behind why ZOS would throttle the connection to paying customers either. But the way it looks, throttling on ZOS's part is the only explanation.
