Why make the numbers bigger?

Hi guys I have a question I cannot find an answer to anywhere. I noticed when I downloaded the 1.6 patch that all my "numbers" got a lot bigger. Like I am on level 16 now and have abilities that do 150 points of damage. My question would be - how big are the numbers in the end game? Are you doing like 100k damage with one hit? Related to it - why to even do it at this point? We can only expect, as new tiers of gear are added, to see the numbers to increase even more. We've seen in WoW, where you were able to hit for incredible numbers and they actually had to do a pass to bring the numbers back to sane levels with WoD. So why is ZoS taking this direction?

Thanks!

P.S.: I must say the game is now 100% better when compared to the beta/post-launch state! Having a blast playing it again, good job Zenimax!

There's no good reason for it.

    Like @Faunter said.

Though I must say I liked it better before. I don't need bigger numbers to know I'm stronger.

Oh and WoD brought HP back to normal?
DPS have ~260k HP, tanks about 400k lol.

So that bonuses such as 5% and 10% increases to stats would be more meaningful.

    It's closer to 1%. And 1% of 5000 is no more meaningful than 1% of 500. It's still 1%.

Also, those bonuses are a lot less meaningful when the actual stats have been lowered 20-30%.

I think the point was that we had this amount of HP in MoP before. So if they would like to make the gear in WoD more powerful, we would actually end up with HPs in the milions

So we can see the smaller statistical increases from the Champion System. However, one percent, is still. One percent. I absolutely hate. The new numbers, as I just said, and as posted above. One percent. Is. One. Per. Cent. It's a buff, I'll take it, now get the hell out of here with your number inflation, It's one god damn percent. I don't need to see that I have a one percent increase to say, max health. It's still one. Bloody. Percent. Of. My. Maximum. Health.

Also, it makes the math harder to do in your head, also makes the game feel more cluttered, also looks disgusting, at least, these are all my opinions, and you are all subject to your own. But I hate it.

I'd also say that they did it so they could hide the nerf to our characters, but the only reason I would be persuaded to believe this is the reason they did it is because they've blatantly lied to us before....

well apart from the obvious - it makes you feel HUGE and POWERFUL - (i thought the numbers on the PTS were off - but i guess not) i don't think they needed to but it certainly made ME feel like a beast. ;)

They increased everything so that the casual player getting a .1% increase from something in the CP system can actually see they got an increase in something and feel good about their progress.

But big numbers makes you feelz more powerfullz.

By 2.0 we will be doing a million dps and the numbers floating on screen will cause systems to explode.

We are not children that can be tricked this way. We know four quarters is the same as ten dimes or one dollar. When asked which one do you want, adults say the dollar bill, kids say the dimes.
    Why?
Adults know they are all the same thing, children see the dimes as more because there are more of them.

    Come on.

I don't like that new big numbers system.
It's look like WoW and uncomfortable.

    This is my view.

Actually I'm serious, by changing the numbers AT THE SAME TIME as implement swingeing nerfs IMO ZOS intended to try to make comparison of pre- and post-1.6 combat as difficult as possible so the depth of the nerfs are hard to see.

And no, I don't wear a tin-foil hat, it's easy to be cynical when it comes to ZOS given the history of the last 11 months.

It is for a number of reasons. None of them particularily spectacular.

    1) as mentioned above, you can see a difference more easily with bigger numbers. 1% can be very small on some things. Just add a decimel in my opinion.
    2) rebalancing. They basically rewrote the game and can tweak things easier in the future.
    3) and of course there is conspiracy. By changing the numbers it masks the changes a bit, so that you don't have a direct comparison of your character before and after update 6.

I'm probably forgetting something. Its not that big a deal to me, but it is a pain to read the extra digits. Can I at least get a comma once we hit the thousands...
