ESO blurred fullscreen, why?

Screenshot in the end.

So, when i have windowed fullscreen, the image is crystal clear as it should.. but when changing to real fullscreen (This is not a debate whether it is true fullscreen or not) the image looks blurry, mouse cursor can not be even seen.

I have painstakingly gone through all the available resolutions in the menu but all look the same, as if the screen is scaled.

In Catalyst, i have tried to disable scaling, tried different scaling oprions and so forth.. Nothing helps. I do not want to play in windowed fullscreen either so i would like this to be resolved..

This issue came when i reinstalled w9indows and installed newest Catalyst software.

Is this just with ESoL? I'd suggest it's more of a driver bug even if it is. Try a earlier driver and see what happens. If it fixes it's self you've got your answer. And yes some bugs do actually only effect one or a couple of games. A lot depends on the graphical engine used in the game. A unique or little used engine will have a better chance of having it's own "special" bug.

Well.. I have not many games installed yet.. Only Skyrim and SWTOR. Both work just fine.

For engine.. ESO has (Debate if based or uses) Hero engine as does SWTOR but SWTOR works fine so..

It did work just fine with Windows drivers but then again they do not support scaling as such as AMD drivers do.. Before reinstall of Windows, i had the same version of Catalyst but then it worked just fine..

Does ESO have a .ini file where i could manually set resolution and refresh rate to fit monitors native?

Can the resolution be changed via some.ini file? The one .ini i found had n0othing regarding to screen resolution.

EDIT: No help from rollbacking drivers.. Always the same. Can not test wwith windows default driver since ESO wont even start with it but that was something i expected anyways.

This is really annoying problem.. Windowed fullscreen naturally works.. But problem is that it shows the taskbar and uses lot more resources than real fullscreen..

If anyone has had similar problem with some other full screen aplication and has fixed it. Please advice.

Can't read it, but from the number of characters your screen resolution in fullscreen is set REALLY low. Try upping it.

Secondly there is an issue sometimes with Subsampling turned to low messing up the menus. Keep that at high. Its not a major performance impact.

Also try turning v-sync and AA off, could be an issue with your video drivers corrupting vsync and AA. I had that issue years ago with specific ATI/Nvidia drivers and specific games. Haven't seen it in a long time but you could try that.

Though chances are its just your fullscreen resolution being too low and ESO not handling low res very well.

This might be your graphics card messing up subsamping, although I don't think the game's UI should be subsampled.

Open the text file <Documents>\Elder Scrolls Online\live\UserSettings.txt with your favorite text editor. Create it if it doesn't exist. (Note that the path has to include "liveeu" rather than "live", if you're playing in Europe.)

Find the following values and update them or just paste them in case the file didn't exist:
    SET FULLSCREEN_v5 "1"
    SET FullscreenHeight "768"
    SET FullscreenWidth "1024"
    SET SUB_SAMPLING "0"
    SET UseCustomUIScale.2 "0"

Any chance you're overriding the output resolution somewhere in your driver settings? This might also be caused by the graphics card feeding your screen with data in the wrong resolution (too high or too low).

I fully agree on having too low resolution. When playing it almost seems like old PS1 television native resolution which is 430 something.. Dont remember but anyways.. Something is wrong.. As if the game is refusing to be on right resolution.. What ever i put in the resolition field, the monitor states i have 1080p as resolution, yet game clearly is at different, much lower res.

I also looked at the usersettings.txt file and fullscreen res was 1920x1080.. Yet it does not seem to use this at all.. i decided to slay the whole fille (delete) and with new file made by ESO, it is all the same..

But what have you actually put in the resolution field in the screenshot you posted? Because it look like it's 700-something as the first number.

Tried what you suggested. Nothing changed, monitor still reports resolution being what it should (1080), yet settings in file are different as if the game does not use it.. Still, if you remove this file again, it makes new in the same location where the old file was so it is at least in right place..

This is what game changes in the file wwhen it started
    SET PreferMaximizedWindow "0"
    SET PreferExclusiveFullscreen "0"
    SET FULLSCREEN_v5 "2"
    SET FullscreenHeight "334"
    SET FullscreenWidth "441"

After that, i changed the values to be 1080p again and made the file read only. Then game does not change it, yet the resolution seems to be that one on the code.. In all cases monitor reports 1080p.

I think there is some setting in Catalyst that might interfere with game but i currently dont have that installed, just the driver.. I think i reinstall Catalyst and browse there a bit.. Problem was same though, when i previously had Catalyst installed with defaults.

It might show that on the screenshot. What ever it is, does not matter since i went through all options in the list and all were the same result. Monitor reported 1080p always, no matter what was selected and the image looked same what ever was selected.

One last thing what's type of monitor are you using?

From what I see on reddit someone reported having the same problem. They fixed it by changing their OSD menu to use DP 1.1 instead of 1.2 I'm not sure if it will fix the problem for you.

I'm also using Catalyst, if you can post your setting, we can run through it together.

Hello man, i had the same issue for a couple minutes, its because you messed up with your drivers configuration or if u have nvidia optimizer is because of that, try chosing the max resolution, switch to windowed mode, switch to fullscreen mode, and you should be good! let me know if it doesnt work

P.S. It's worth noting that posting this in the appropriate forum would give you a much better chance at getting some kind of official help. Your best chance of getting official help is through actually contacting CS directly. But regardless of your perception of the support forums, they're quite active.

***.. Yesterday i got the issue fixed and today... Patch made the issue come back.. You know i really get annoyed by these litle things.. And am i supposed to reinstall the whole thing again or what?

If that stupid taskbar would be hidden in the windowed fullscreen, that might be almost bearable but really.. I would like to know why this happens.. It is uite a fuss to download the whole game again.. There must be a file somewhere that makes this happen.. File not being Usersetting.txt as that makes no difference if i tamper with it.

Most likely it's driver issue, resolution change or scalling settings might be messed up somewhere.

If you can't find it in driver options, try uninstalling drivers and installing a bit older version.

Also not sure bout it since I have no access to what exactly you got there but it looks like it might be scalling on your integrated card from either motherboard or cpu.

For what it's worth, one of my guild members had this issue and he solved it in this way:

Delete the Shadercache.cooked file in Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live (the same place the usersettings.txt file is), and let the game rebuild it.

Deicer rollback, reinstall other version nothing helps, deleting shadercache no help.. Deleted everyhting no help.. Reinstall no help..

ESO is still the only game that has this issue and i canonly play on Windowed but that is not really a solution is it.. It has always been bad on window, uses too much resources, does not even hide the taskbar etc..

I am literally shouting here of frustration right now. Why oh why this happens today when just yesterday it worked perfectly until i stopped playing anbd turned computer off..

Epic frustration soon to be legendary -.-

Even tried Beta drivers now but hmm.. Out of anger i just pressed CTRL++Alt+Delete and noticed for the first time that while game is forced to backround, my desktop seems to be in lower than normal resolution which is meaning that game hgas forced the resolution to be low.. But then again, monitor states all the time that 1920x1080 is in use.. Something scales here and it must be shadowscale as no settings seems to be in a way that would enable this..

It still seems to force 334x441 even while usersettings are defined to use correct, native resolution <.>

It looks like now, that Windows scales dowwn its desktop resolution while ESO is running.. Video resolution stays the same but desktop resizes to lowest possible resolution which ends up also messing Elder Scrolls since it has no true full screen at all.. So it uses seems to use right resolution in monitor but in truth, it is in desktop resolution which being 441x334 and then stretches it to fit 1920x1080 wwhich naturally ends up messing everything up..

I allready tried changing windows performance optionds from "Let windows decide to use best appearance" which does not help either..

But at least i am closer to truth now i think.. Anyone got ideas?

Solved: I browsed to game installation folder and went all the way to find ESO.Exe.. Then i right clicked it and under Compatibility, i clicked "Disable scaling while high DPI setting is in use" (Or something like that, my OS is Finnish so i cant say what exactly that option says in English but i assume it is similar to that if someone else has this issue :)
