Horrible armor design, FIRE the armor designer's quickly and hire competent ones.

ESO has never been so prudish and ugly in the armor design department since it came out. Even back in the early 90's with low pixel's the armor was unique and sexy.

Now it looks like a cardboard box spray painted silver or brown.

Seriously. Fire these joker's and get some quality artist's in. If you think people will continue to pay you to play this game with it's horribly puritan designed armor + bad class changes you are mistaken ZoS. You are running out of time to fix your mistakes.

Maybe they are intimidated by GamerGate? Bad design change I like the original armor better By making the Orc and Redguard armor the way it is now . You have accomplished one thing for me ZOS . I am now able to remove Starmetal and Manganese from my bank. No reason to collect and craft either of those two abominations.

It's really the redguard that they trashed. The shirt uggg. everything ugg. Ok I guess the boots are a little better. Please let us chose!!!

Heavy and medium armor needs to completely cover. Light armor, which is CLOTH, needs to have a range of options. Why? Because it is NOT actually armor. It's CLOTHING with magic applied to it. The Redguard light changes are APPALLING.

I don't understand why some pieces were radically changed from a design perspective, this is just bound to annoy people who were wearing these armors. Nobody is against polishing up textures, but taking away people's preferred styles for no discernible reason is a terrible decision.

I got this a lot when complaining about the change. One player in the NA Pact RP mega-guild told me to go f*ck myself sideways, another told me to go elsewhere for my pixel boobs...it got strange. Many cited logic.

If you go with logic, however, the armor protrusions for breasts are even more absurd. They restrict movement and would crush your sternum if you took a heavy blow to that area.

Thus all metal armor of all styles with breast protrusions are stupid....or STUPID as you put it.

No, this is about a different sensibility and I believe, in the case of the RP folks, it goes to some lore issue I'm unaware of.

Few say the Dark Seducer costume or the Encasement of Anguish rare drop armor is stupid.

Encasement of Anguish with Daedric "breeches" at a NA Pact RP event

This is because the original mythology of elves as bewitchers and seducers was offloaded to the Daedra. Other games maintain that mythology but we tend to dismiss them as juvenile.

We are comfortable with killing, but not with sex. We delight in gory effects, blood spurting, and victims dissolving into poison pools while howling in agony, but not with boobs showing or any leg exposed at all.

Armor is also clothing in this game. And I used it as such and do not believe it looked....stupid.

    Andala%20Orc%20Chest%202_zpsm8ptvjgd.png

I get your point, MornaBaine, and we agree that it can be clothing...but why is it okay to wear revealing armor as clothing....so long as it's not metal?

Where I think we can all agree is that it probably didn't suit the Orc motif. Yet I'd wager real money that if both were available we'd rarely see the new Orc heavy female style.

Finally getting back to the early posts in this thread, I think it might have been better handled had we not be told this was an improvement in the announcement ("come see the improved new styles") followed by a developer initiated topic seeking praise.

I like the changes outside of not loving the light redguard helmet.

They should offer a dress outfit as a costume for those that miss the old female redguard light armor, those players seem to be the most bothered by the changes. Don't feel sorry for the boob window being gone on the orc female armor though, that was kind of weird.

You're right about that, and it's actually even worse than you describe it. If you look at a knight's breastplate from the era where full plate was becoming common, you'll note that it typically has a ridge along the front that the breastplate curves away from on both sides. This design helps to deflect blows so that the full force won't go into the armour (making it less likely to penetrate), and to make it more likely that a blow will glance off the side rather than connect solidly to your vital areas. Protrusions for breasts means that blows striking anywhere on the inner curves of the protrusions will be directed towards the middle of the chest, making it more likely that they will penetrate the breastplate, while simultaneously directing them towards some of the most vital areas of the anatomy.

I agree whole heartedly. I wish the changes were about practicality, but its not. Boob plate is only slightly less fatal than a boob window in combat, but thats not what people are really worried about. The sight of a couple inches of cleavage on plate brings back pearl clutching shivers from people scarred by heavily sexualized art styles and they call for the removal of a single occasion of slightly less conservative plate. It's completely silly, and the ignorant "urnly teens liek bewbs" response given so often is a clear indication of the lack of ability to look at it rationally.

I think both points of view have had their say here.

But, as my grandfather used to say, "They fight over an empty box." The change has been made. The writing hand, having writ, moves on.

What I expect will happen is that portions of the original styles will turn up in dropped sets. This is how the developers made use of all sorts of assets that never made it into crafted motifs, such as Stygian, Yokudan, Ashlander and such.

Plus they have a store to stock that opens its doors in a day or two.

I do too, Elf. No shame in it; no tag, such as "gamer," required.

Rather it's shortsighted to imagine an immense gulf between real and digital spaces because the human heart cannot separate emotion triggered in a digital setting from that provoked in an analog one.

The most fundamental reality is time. And how we spend our time defines our lives. Thus saying one activity is real life and the other not is a bit narrow.

And what makes online gaming different is that it creates relationships with other people. It takes years and years to know people in meat-space whereas the shared consensual stress of gaming in cyberspace reveals who people truly are, and does it faster....in minutes in some cases.

And I'm not some kid from the digital age either. I'm 62, have owned and flown airplanes, sailed alone on the open ocean, climbed many mountains and did it all on one leg. Not saying I'm special but my sense of reality is keen.

    But I digress :p

The hell of developing online games is that all change is disruptive yet you must constantly deliver change. Thus the best in the business are defined by knowing what changes to make. It requires focus. This particular change felt....random.

The core of version 6 is anything but random, however. I think most of it was brilliant....which is why this bit didn't fit.

I would agree with this. Overall 1.6 is the best update ESO has yet seen IMO, but I consider this part of it to be a mistake. There are a couple of other quibbles I have with 1.6 (aside from this, my biggest concern is that the bounty granted when you heal an outlaw is poorly thought out, and overly punishing to new players who do it by accident), but overall I think it was a great update.

Indeed. Yet the howling, the fury, even death threats are the lot of the online game developer.

Anyone considering a career in it needs to have Rudyard Kipling's poem, If, on their nightstand...as the first and last thing they read each day ;)

I've had three big issues with the Orc armour since I first saw it.

    1. It's too damn shiny. It's supposed to be armour for orcs, not armour for the heroic knights on their valiant steeds. Should be less shiny, imo.
    2. The helmet is covered and not open faced. Do not like.
    3. The toes on the boots are flat. So wrong. Should be as it is in their own artwork: http://i.imgur.com/Mnmu4qg.jpg

I do like how beefy it looks though and the overall details. Although I still think they should make it look a bit more savage and less knightly. Add a bit more fur perhaps, make it look more worn.
