Templar Leveling 1h shield/resto or bow?

Abelcher339b14_ESO
I'd like to level my Templar as 1h shield, but I am having a hard time deciding between resto staff or a bow for 2nd bar. My goals are to level up smoothly enjoying what the game has to offer, but i also am a big fan of pvp. Any suggestion would be much appreciated!

Puncturing sweeps make a Templar leveling experience cake. Everything else is just icing.

I would say use a bow for your second bar. You have heals as a Templar already. Most people use a resto staff on their second bar in case they get in hot water. You should be able to take care of yourself without that.

most use a staff because its the best way to generate magic. heavy staff attack gen magic heavy bow attack stamina so unless you use only stamina you need just magic weapons or combination to generate magic and stamina on different bars. I keep sword and board on one bar with all stamina skills and staff with magic skill bar.

I'd go with a bow. Templars are the one class that can heal without a restoration staff. Unless you're leveling them to be a healer, I'd not waste a weapon slot on a restoration staff.

Weapons do not matter so much for Templars (!) pick one which you like. Keep in mind that in 1.6 (in 3-6 weeks) stamina and heavy armor will be hugely buffed, find out which skills you prefer and, then, do decide whether you go stamina or magicka. As 1h/shield you can also skill magicka and just use 1h for magic bolt reflection, which is very good in 1v1 PvE / PvP. Since they change SO much, you really have to study (!) the patch notes :) Also think about that Templar's magicka regen still will suck (they do not listen to all complaints).

Although the Templar used to be the best healer, do not over value the comments on his healing abilities which are also beeing severly nurfed in 1.6.x. Some templar players just did not use Radiant Aura (/Repentence), so they will not notice the nurf. In some groups the 80% stamina/hp buff was mandatory! (with good reason) Now you'll get 20%, a -75% nurf! And together with that nurf your +heal crit passive gets also nurfed by 2/3 (from 30-10%). That healing passive was really important in critical situations, some builds had 70-80% heal crit, now equipment + passives are beeing nurfed in a non optimal way for crit-healing builds. So most Templars went for magicka+magic damage. Since Beta ZoS keeps cutting our healing abilities.

You still will use Fire Rune (+20% magic dmg passive), Blazing Shield, Immovable vs. CC-mobs. You'll need them so often that there is not much place left for other skills. So, most important, do not put more than 2 attack skills on your bar, use Immovable+Blazing Shield night and day + 1 damage ability + 1 CC. Try this way first. This is how I would have liked to be introduced in the game. One year ago leveling was no fun.. :(

I have to disagree with the people who are saying you should go with bow rather than resto staff. I've got a few Templars, and I find that they rely very heavily on magicka. Having a resto staff is incredibly useful even if you'd rather use all Templar abilities for doing your actual healing, because it lets you recover magicka.

Mind you, if you're going for a stamina-heavy build with your Templar, then a bow is probably a better bet for you.
