Windhelm Champion Quest - Eastmarch

You are supposed to keep the celebrators happy and safe for the festival that is occurring in Eastmarch. The quest is right after getting off the boat and then talking to Thane Mera Stormcloak. After you have found Hadring murdered on the race around the top of the outer wall, you speak to her. Stormcloak states "I'm taking the gauntlets off and granting the authority......"
There are two options in red.

Option 1
Hadring told me where the assassin went before he died.

Option 2
I'll find someone who saw what happened.

What is the impact of each choice? Thanks
Is there more interaction with the Thane on how you choose?
It's not the destination but the journey.

    Choosing the first option skips out a bit of the quest where you would otherwise have to find out that information from someone else.

    If you decide to leave Hadring and finish the race without talking to him, the second option is the only one available, which is why it exists at all.
