Skills and other noob questions...

So I get the skill point system, just wanted to ask some details:

1) Why would you slot a weapon skill, like dual wield Flurry, over a class skill in say Assassination? Both use a resource stat, stamina or magicka.
2) What's the high level a skill can reach?
3) How many times can a skill morph?
4) I believe this is 'no', but do you level individual weapon types? Like dagger, mace, two handed sword, two handed axe. Or you just level the class weapon categories?
5) What is the name of the largest trade guild you can join on the US mega server to simulate a Auction House?
6) I can only join a guild starting at level 10 and it's by invite only?
7) Is the total obtainable skill points around 330 and where in the UI do I see how many I have spent?
8) Can you respec your skills, if so how, and how many times?

That's all I can think of right now, thanks so much for any help!

    1) Because you do more damage / have better mitigation / more healing if you not only use class skills
    2) 4
    3) just once
    4) just categories like two handed, dual wield, ...
    5) As there is a member limit of 500 there are several big trade guilds. But you can join up to 5 guilds so joining 2-3 trade guilds is a a good idea. Unfortunatelly I don't know any trade guilds on the US server
    6) not sure about the level, but it is invite only
    7) if you want to know it you have to use an addon
    8) you can respec skills, morphs and attribute points in the tempel of the capital as often as you wish. The gold you have to pay increases with the number of points you have spent.

    Just adding a few comments:

    3) If you respec, you can choose the other morph for the same skill. There is a "morphs only" respec as well, I believe.

    5) Off the top of my head:
    Hlaalu Trading Company
    Imperial Traders' Guild
    Alls Faire Trading Guild
    Loots R Us

There are also some large PvE guilds that maintain a trader and have an active store, so you can get two birds with one stone.

But pretty much, go around the guild traders and check which ones have a ton of stock. Those are the ones you want to join for trading.

    6) No level requirement. You need to have an account. If you are looking for a trading guild, they are usually advertising in Zone chat. If you see a trader for a guild you'd like to join, ask in zone if anyone from the guild is online. Usually any member can add new members. Or putting "looking for trade guild" in zone will probably net you a few invites. If you don't like them, just leave and find another one.

PvE guilds may or may not be pickier with membership. Some have application forms, some will take referrals from current members. Each guild does stuff their own way.

    1) Depends on your build and play style. You generally want to use the skill that relies on your higher resource. Stamina vs magicka

    2) Each tree gets to 50, while skills level to tier 3

    3) once, might be exceptions im unaware of

4)No, but you learn crafting traits for individual weapon types

    5) There are a handful. Use the search feature here. Don't join one without a guild store.

    6) There was a problem with bot guilds in the first few months. This explains the level 10 rule. You can create your own guild at level 10 as well (unless its's been changed).

    7) I believe it's around 330; You need an addon to see how many you've spent and where. You can also check at a respec shrine.

8)Respec shrine is in the second main zone of each faction. You pay gold per skill point or morph. You can also reset attribute points similarly at an adjacent shrine. You pay to reset all. You can't pick and choose which point to take back. This applies to skills, attributes, and morphs.

    Ok, a little clearer. Thanks

    One thing, question 2..
    2) What's the high level a skill can reach?
So any skill I slot will max out at IV(4). At that point should i insert another skill i want to level into that slot? Meaning there is no more benefit the IV skill can receive?

Once your morphed skill reaches rank IV it won't level any more, yes. If you were just keeping it on your bar to level, feel free to replace it with something else, if it's actually of use to you, might want to leave it there;)

Your skills level with Kills (while slotted) and from quests (while slotted). As you can imagine, your L4 skills will do more damage than a skill you are leveling (in most cases) so you will tend to use the more powerful skills in combat. But, before turning in a quest, swap out the other skills that have not leveled so you can bring them up. Good thing is you can exit out of the conversation before accepting the reward so you can adjust skills. I will sometimes use my other weapon bar just to have skills that I am leveling and swap to that weapon when turning in a quest.

Also, you will tend to have 2 or 3 skills that you use in most mob combat, so you can put 2 or 3 skills on the same bar that you want to level that you use for combat. Note, you will want to change out your skills as you approach different things (public dungeons vs normal mobs for example, or daedra vs regular mobs etc).

The devs have put into place lots of things to combat gold farmers. So, while they might be around, they are much rarer than at launch. I have not seen one chat spam since like May. This is one reason why you have a limit on how many characters you can delete, and the email challenge when you login the first time or if your IP changes.

Sounds good. How are they handling third party gold sellng? Once ESO goes free, wouldn't farmers be able to create endless accounts which bypasses the character delete solution?

I know every game has third party seller issues, just want to make sure the ESO economy won't get polluted. Being rather new to the game, this would turn me off to playing.

The game isn't going free to play. You have to buy it. If you already havehave an account when it goes buy to play, then in essence it's free, but you cant just make account after account. Not to say that it will prevent them from coming back, but ZoS had gone great lengths to deter them. I don't see them making a return.

In regards to third party sellers not just bots, the will always be someone trying to sell in game gold for real money. That is just how an mmo works. ZoS can't prevent us from going to their third party sites. It is against the terms of use to make profit off of the game in that regard. I don't think it will hurt the game.

The first few months of the game were the worst when it comes to economic pollution. There were item dupers in the first few weeks, bots farming bosses, and gold sellers spamming everything. They even managed to get accounts on these forums and pm spam people here. The only thing I could see bringing bots back is a huge spike in this game's population. That may happen in March with b2p, but I doubt it will be as severe as it was on release.

    Ah, ok.

So back to the questions. The navigational compass....what do the symbols mean? I think I get what lim looking at when I'm playing, but when there's an arrow representing a quest on the compass, often it leads me to a door...I go through and then the compass has nothing on it. I turn around and the same door again has a quest arrow on it. Completely confused on what the compass is telling me.

Anyone a guide to the compass, explaining what each symbol means that shows up on the compass and how to find your quest objectives?

    (Not interested in addons btw)

Basically, if the quest marker is an arrow, you are in the same "world" as the quest.
If you see a quest marker with a window, you have to enter a different "world", which can be a house, a dungeon or even a zone. Once you enter the same "world" as the objective, the quest marker will change into an arrow.
A quest marker with a circle around it means that the objective has to be searched in an area. If you reach the area, that circle will change your entire compass into a blueish/grayish colour.
Grey arrow means it your active quest (as shown in your quest list on the UI), black arrow means it is an objective for a quest other then your active quest.

If you have problems finding your objectives, you can use the map to see where the objectives are. Also, your quest journal has an option to show the quest on the map.

Ugh...I don't see the colors you are referring to with my quest markers. I do use the quest journal a lot to locate quests, but even then I try to go to the location and it not showing up clearly on the compass. Maybe I'm missing some files and should do a repair? I don't know...

First thing, make sure your tracking the quest you want. The game has a maddening habit of switching tracking to another quest entirely when you do a stage of a quest. On my machine I use the T key to cycle through the quests that I want tracked.

Basically, a White Marker is for the quest that is tracked, the Black ones are for other active quests or new quests.

Second thing, and this is pretty rare, the quest markers will point to the wrong place. But this has been almost eliminated with patches.

Thanks Netstor, I do constantly go to the journal to update the current quest I want to work on. However, sometimes when I go to a new zone or even out a door (which loads a new area), the quest tracker resets to show me the quests in the area. My whole objective is to track the quest I assigned and find it. Hard to do when it switches.

I'm thinking I'm missing a setting or something. Grrr.

No penalty on horses. That said, horse skills are changing in 1.6. Horses will just be skins and useable by all characters on the account, your individual character will have a Riding Skill to level instead. What feedings you have done will translate into the riding skill with the change.

If you have the Imperial Edition, get 3 horses and upgrade each with one attribute. So, one for Speed, one for Stamina, one for Bags. I have named mine Feed Apples, Feed Hay, Feed Oat.

So I am leveling 3 horses on one of my characters to be ready for 1.6. My other characters have balanced horses (Bags and Speed) so I will wait until 1.6 to boost those remaining stats. Although each of mains has a Stamina horse they are currently upgrading when they think about it.

Have some more questions and decided not to create a new thread and clutter up the forums.

    1) Guilds are alliance based right? I can't access a guild store I know about in Pact if I'm over in Daggerfall right?

    2) Why are Daedra Hearts a hot item? See them being sold in bunches all the time. Is it a prime component in crafting end game gear?

    3) How do the veteran levels work? Once I'm 50 I enter veteran levels right away?

    4) When if ever can I quest in other alliance areas? So as Pact can I quest the story line for Daggerfall at some point or even do the quests over there?

    5) When zone chat stays 'xyz is up' what are they referring to? Some timed elite boss like the crab?

    6) Be there dragons in the game? ;)

I think that's it for now. Again, I thank thee for all your help!

    1. Sort of. You join with account, not with character, so you will have people from different factions in every guild. As for the guild traders, they're the same in veteran and standard version of the zone. So you can use those in the Pact, but only when you reach it as a veteran (it's a Gold zone for DC).
    2. Again, sort of. They're needed to create daedric-style armor, which is quite rare and sought after, but styles are purely cosmetic, so it doesn't make any practical difference when you run around in daedric.
    3. Yes. In fact, level 50 doesn't exist - you go from 49 to VR1. Then you level up to VR14, 1 mln XP per rank.
    4. After finishing the main quest, you are sent to the next alliance. For DC it's the Dominion. After finishing that, you can access the third alliance. This is what people mean when they talk about Cadwell's Silver and Gold.
    5. Usually a dolmen or a world boss (skull icon).
    6. Nope.

    1) Guilds are alliance based right?

Yes ... however, they faction that they belong to only really matters if they enter (or you) enter Cyrodill -- many trade guilds are cross faction based and some even have guild merchants in several locations.

    2) Why are Daedra Hearts a hot item? See them being sold in bunches all the time. Is it a prime component in crafting end game gear?

Yes Daedra Hearts are required for crafting Daedric Armour and Weapons (that and the crafter must have learned the Daedric Motif). Daedric Armour and Weapons however are no more or less protective or powerful than any other crafted weapon or armour style -- it is just cosmetics and personal preference for those whom wish to utilize such equipment.

    3) How do the veteran levels work? Once I'm 50 I enter veteran levels right away?

Level 50 is equivalent to veteran rank 1 -- so there are currently in effect 63 'levels' -- 49 levels and 14 veteran ranks. This will be changing in the future as other phases of the champion system are introduced.

    4) When if ever can I quest in other alliance areas? So as Pact can I quest the story line for Daggerfall at some point or even do the quests over there?

After you have completed the main storyline and reached the higher levels (i.e. 45+), there will be a quest chain that allows you to experience the content from the other factions which is essentially how one slowly progresses towards veteran rank 14.

    5) When zone chat stays 'xyz is up' what are they referring to? Some timed elite boss like the crab?

Usually this refers to the dolmens (dark anchors) which are open world PvE group challenges but it can also mean zone bosses. There are usually three dark anchors and six world bosses within each zone -- most (or all) are difficult to impossible for a single player of the appropriate level to defeat.

    6) Be there dragons in the game? ;)

I think that's it for now. Again, I thank thee for all your help!

Other than the dragonknights, there are no dragons within the game -- lore wise, the dragons were overthrown in Skyrim eons ago and don't make their reappearance until early in the 4th era after Talos unites the warring factions into an empire later in the 2nd era.

    Sorta, kinda, not really.

If you're in a guild, you can access your store from any character at any bank. When you talk to the banker, you can pick from the dialog options to choose to access your own bank, your guild's bank or your guild's store. (Note that the store requires 50 members in the guild, and the bank requires 10, or they will be disabled.)
    uberkull wrote: »

It's aesthetic. You can craft gear in any style you know. Daedric is one of the more sought after styles. Actually getting daedric hearts is something that requires getting into the very late game. Though, once you have them, and know how to craft daedric style armor, you can make armor that looks like, well, daedric. That said, there's no statistical difference in armor styles, so if you're content with your normal style, you don't actually need daedra hearts for anything.
    uberkull wrote: »
    3) How do the veteran levels work? Once I'm 50 I enter veteran levels right away?

Yeah. Once you hit 50 you instantly become Vet 1. Each Vet rank requires 1m XP to advance to the next one. They're basically just additional levels, except for a few systemic things. You're still considered level 50 for the purpose of determining if you're overleveled for content, for example.
    uberkull wrote: »
    4) When if ever can I quest in other alliance areas? So as Pact can I quest the story line for Daggerfall at some point or even do the quests over there?

When you've finished the main quest you'll get access to the next faction's story content. This progresses clockwise around the map. So If you start Pact, you'll go to Covenant first, and Dominion second. If you're Dominion, you'll go to Pact first and Covenant second.

The other factions are ranked VR1-5 and VR6-10 respectively, and are referred to as Silver (1-5) and Gold (6-10) by players.
    uberkull wrote: »
    5) When zone chat stays 'xyz is up' what are they referring to? Some timed elite boss like the crab?

It depends. Dolmens refer to the dark anchors that drop from the sky. Other callouts might refer to worldbosses. Though other events, like the infection spawns can get callouts as well.

Generally speaking Dark Anchors are timed, if they're ignored for too long they'll shut on their own. Worldbosses stay up until someone snuffs them. So, there is an element of time sensitivity for both. Infection spawns will despawn at sunrise, so again, they are actually time sensitive.

No. The Riding Skill levels exactly the same way feeding a horse does now. The difference is it applies directly to the character, as opposed to a specific horse.

And, the consoles are supposed to launch with 1.6, last I checked.
