Well i see tons of rant about this and stuff like that..but i figured id ask something to see how you guys feel about this theory...

So instead of a huge conspiracy that ZeniMax is loosing cash and they want to milk this thing till it drops dead...how about this.

SOOOO...Console release will bring us a few things..

-TONS fo box sales
-huge influx of players on consoles and PC (due to the fact ppl might play ESO now because subscription is off)
-in the end Huge player influx may result in a significant number of players subbing to eso+...

Then after some time, DLC's will hit the fan...and that alone will net ZOS a substantial influx of money every now and then..

So B2P conversion is providing huge influx of money AND players (that might become ESO+ members) and on top of that a periodical influx of cash from DLC's..

Isnt that a better theory then "OMG ZENIMAX MILING US..ERMHAGERD ESO DEAD"...or am i being overly optimistic

You missed the point. People don't care why it happened, they're afraid of where it may lead.

Yea ofc but if money isnt the issue now, and it wont be in the future...nothing major should change...

    See my point?

But if they are really moneygrabbing gnar fodders then i suppose content will be more oriented on cash shop

There is definitely a..."we have been used as a BETA" feel to this all but I will not say that this was ZOS's intent.

I honestly believe that their intentions were to launch a PC game and then launch two console versions of the PC game but each console would have a different twist.

Now HERE IS WHAT GOT THEM...
-Agreements for X and Y console company will sometimes require parity, similarities, limitations, exclusions, etc.

The sale of digital items/games/DLC/expansions have to be done through Sony/Xbox stores and not via ZOS's.

The features, server access, chat vs no voice chat, keyboard and current/future requirements to integrate their game with current and upcoming system and hardware changes to each console.

There is the expectation of the original release around the console roll-out in November/December of 2013. It was then pushed to April - June 2014....then to December 2014. Now approx June 2015 with no digital pre-ordering or BETA dates ongoing on either console.

AND THEN.... the subscription was removed
So now conversation went on and on until recently when members of the ZOS development team stated that consoles had an impact on the change from sub to B2P.

I think its a reasonable conclusion that was drawn from lots of speculations that end up being reality. ZOS is not poor but often found lacking with their level of communication. I'm sure this is due to legal limitations but its also due to talking too much about things you don't have 100% control over.

    <no flaming intent>

I agree it's possible this change was made to accommodate the console release.

It's also possible we're both being overly optimistic though. Time will tell. :)

People are only scared what is going to happen to ESO now that it's switching to B2P + Sub.

I mean look at SWTOR, sure it's a F2P game..but if you want access to everything you don't have a choice but to Sub..All the Doomsayers are still saying how SWTOR failed and is dead game now, yet they have 2mil active players, and 500k subs..
Ever since they switched to F2P they are even releasing way more content than those first 6 months when they were P2P.

F2P games being automatically Bad is nothing but a big LIE.
It has already been proven that the F2P concept bring in more revenue.
Even the "Mighty" WoW is losing players in the West fast, and will soon introduce PLEX (Likely this year).
P2P games will soon become a thing of the past, sadly we're living in a world full of microtransactions.

About Consoles and ESO, I have no doubt ZOS will triple their revenue (the revenue from these 10 months),immediately just with the Box Sales. Sadly we PC players can't ever compete with the TES fanatics from Consoles, they make up about 85% whole TES playerbase.

Could happen but history from other MMO's says otherwise. Unfortunately :disappointed:
