What happens if you finish the main quest before level 50?

Apparently the required level for the final quest in the main storyline is level 45. What happens if you finish it at level 45? Do you miss the levels and skill points in between, or do you enter Cadwell's Silver at 45?

You can start Cadwell's before reaching vet 1. Lower level players aren't often seen in vet zones, but I occasionally run into lvl 47 or so players.

I think i finished the main quest at like level 46 or something. I grinded mobs and did PVP to catch up.

The next zone will still be unlocked for you. You will be able to proceed on, you will simply not be able to do Vet content (Group Dungeons/Craglorn) until you officially hit VR1.

A button appears that says.. "Press here to Uninstall Game."

Oh.. wait.. no.. you just end up wishing you had done all those side quests you skipped leveling up, as your character gets rolf-stomped by mobs designed for higher level players. And you dont get XP for killing grey mobs, only the XP for doing the quest, so you level slower.

Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

Last main quest doesn't spawn until L45, so at most those scary VR1 enemies will only be 5 levels above you.

@darlgon, If you find yourself getting beat up that badly, there is still the Vet 1 starter zone(s) and you can still complete quests (for quest XPs, if not mob XP's/loot) or grind in CH (Cave of trophies is an excellent spot for this, so is village of the lost).

There are still a gazillion of sidequests to do.

Much to be done... skipped sidequests, PvP, cyrodil dailies (those I often look towards when I want some quick expees for a level ot three), normal dungeon runs or in a worst case scenario, mindless grinding (dwemer ruins in the last map before coldharbour are good, might also net you scrap and perhaps even a crafting page... DC and EP characters have one of those each as I recall)... its not too hard to grab a few levels to get to that V1...

Of course, one can do V1 mobs too at 45. Might be a bit tough, and the mid-bosses may be kicking your behind... but, most of the quests in cadwells are non-solo (I think there are only a handful which you can't do in group, if that many), which means you can do them with a friend...

Personally I never really had the problem, since I always do every sidequest and dwelve on every map. Which usually lets me hit 50/V1 somewhere during the assault on molag bals fortress to end the planemeld in coldharbour... (on five of my six characters so far, the sixth was a bit slow due to excessive stealthplay and less XP sneaking past mobs instead of killing them... so she only got to 50 between the end of coldharbour and the last mainstory final fight...)
It's the easiest way to go about it I always thought, no need to be going back to see what was missed, and most of the sidequests are easy to be done en passant while following the main questlines since they happen in the same locations anyhow...

Thanks for the input everyone! Reaching Cadwell too early is not an issue. I've already been skipping most quests on purpose. I just wanted to make sure I don't lose any skill points.

You never lose skill points, contrary to popular belief.

Each faction main quest = 15 skill points. (you can always do these, though it can be a pain to find out where you left off. Check a guide or a screencap of Cadwells <thing> for another faction to see which quests yield skill points. Not all do, but its a good enough guide)

    Level 1-VR14 = 63 Skill points

    Main quest yields 6?

81 Skyshards per faction + 48 in Cyro , total 97 skill points

Each Dungeon yields a skill point (16)

Each vet dungeon yields a skill point (8)

Each PvP level yields a skill point (49)

Mage's guild quest gives 2 skill points

Each public dungeon's group challenge yields a skill point (16)

If you remove all PvP points, thats an easy 253 skill points, Craglorn has some amount as well in the form of Skyshards, and I'm sure I've missed something easy.

You can never 'lose' skill points. You'll just have to go back and grab them later.

I didn't do any of the main quest on 4 of my characters until I reached V1. Because of the past update, the main quest was then set to my level which allowed me to receive V1 items for completing the main quest story line.

By the way, in my opinion, my Nightblade killed Molag Bal the easiest. I have yet to try it with my Templar.

I remember seeing somebody hit the Silver version of Glenumbra at 46 once, months ago. They were just derping around there doing content, as I recall.

I killed Molag Ball at 45 with my NB. First try.

You definitely would have to skip a lot of quests too and just move on to Coldharbour early in order to do it. I actually skipped the entire Alik'ir zone when leveling through the Covenant faction zones and entered Coldharbour at level 41.

You get access to Cadwell's Silver after completing the main quest. You CAN then access Silver at lvl 47.

If you complete the main quest, and follow up with Caldwell in the Harborage, you can indeed get to the next zone before level 50. You'll have fun getting one-shotted by mudcrabs . :p
