After Playing the Neverwinter MMO Xbox1 Beta this weekend..

After spending the weekend enjoying a first hands look into the "Other" MMO coming to Xboxone this year I must admit I am honestly hopping ESO gets things ironed out soon.

Neverwinter looks amazing as far as the graphics go, but the gameplay is just to easy to me. I think they are aiming at more of the diablo crowed with Neverwinter. ESO seems to stick to the lore of the elderscrolls and the gameplay of ESO has more depth to it IMO.

Do not get me wrong I think NW MMO will be big on the console, but I will be playing ESO more than NW personally. If ESO can get 1.6 ironed out and working correctly I see it being the main MMO for consoles even though NW is due out before ESO. I know myself and a few friends will be playing both of them and then decide what to stay with, but unless ESO drops the ball HARD then it will be a no brainer.

I do hope the ESO devs look at how Neverwinters grouping system works as it was very easy to find groups.

anyone else get a chance to play the beta and see a few things that ESO could take not of?

I signed up using 2 different email accounts and never received a key. I did watch some stream's of it and it looks pretty good to me. I can see myself playing it, but I see ESO being my main go to MMO on the Xbox One.

Mine was in my junk folder last Thursday. Some people got them today. No idea what the hell they were thinking sending out keys on the last day, but o well..

Yes I will agree ESO will be my main MMO for now.

You talking about the PW Neverwinter? If so get ready to depend on the cash shop because I hear it's worse than STO in that regard, and STO is aggravating lately.

    What is STO?

I have heard stuff about Neverwinter's cash shop, but I have yet to play the game so can't comment too much.

If you buy the DLC you do not have to worry about the Cash Shop so much.. But farming Tiamat gets old as hell after the 70th time... The game is just to easy.

Star Trek Online. It's slowly adopting Neverwinter's f2p model and it's aggravating players to the point of quitting. The forums are toxic right now. Both games are Perfect World games and Neverwinter is newer.

Get ready for a dependence on a premium currency that you will need for everything and can only be obtained in small quantities for free. It's an asian-style f2p grindfest MMO.

Make your own decision about it but know that they're trying to make STO the same sort of game and people are quitting left and right over it.

I didn't realize that Neverwinter was so close to coming out on the Xbox One... that doesn't bode well for ESO. While they are two different style games, Neverwinter has its stuff together. Players will likely plow through ESO and then go to Neverwinter for the long haul.

Does Foundry exist on the Xbox One?

ESO announced BTP/Console release date 2 weeks after NW came out with Xboxone Beta announcement.

Also as for the release date: It was said by the dev team that they received all of the information they were looking for on the second day of the closed beta because the turn out was way more than they had expected to see and there will not be an open beta. They are shooting for mid march "If not sooner" as was said from them earlier today on the live stream. So I guess the fact it was already out in china for the xbox one left them very little to do.

The team that is handling the NA servers are in cali. and I guess all they need to do is some localization and they are ready to launch. Kind of different story for ESO I just hope they keep to the june release if not sooner.

Any word on the PS4 release. I know they've said its after the Xbox One release.

Also, Neverwinter is REALLY going to bite into ESO's apple on consoles. I played Neverwinter before ESO came out and man... that game is FUN.

As I remember it, Neverwinter is still published by PWE (Perfect World Entertainment) which in the beginning, bordered the line heavily with the Pay-2-Win factor, which is why I stopped playing.

I agree, it's a fun game if you can get past that. Foundry is definitely something unique to Neverwinter and can be great fun for developers and players both.

I really enjoyed NW for a while. But the P2W factor, crazy cash shop prices, and the continual power creep grind drove me away. It's a shame cause I liked it. But I could just not keep up with the new gear and power creep. Now you have to level your gear too, once you finally actually get it after grinding that part. And the refining process, ugh.
The PvP is limited. You'll be doing the same PvE content day after day after level cap. I believe they took a good game in the wrong direction. Some people enjoy the gear grind and have the hours a day to put into it.
I still don't get playing an MMO on a console though.

What is there about it that you do not "get"?

    There WAS a time when consoles could not give the performance that would be needed to run a decent MMO, but those days are long gone. I for one enjoyed playing EverQuest Online Adventures for the ps2 for many years. {Damn I loved that game}

There is nothing that a PC MMO can do that an Xbox1 cannot do now. There are keyboards for the xbox1 and there are mouse ports if you must have them. Don't get me wrong I have been here since the birth of our great MMO's like Everquest and Asherons Call, but I welcome the change to console.

With Explorer 10 coming out for the xbox this year TeamSpeak will be easier to run on it.. What exactly is the problem with a console port of your favorite MMO? I for one would much rather use a controller in a comfy chair looking at a 65'' Plasma TV than sit leaned over hunch backed looking at a monitor.

FFXI was released ONLY on the PS2 in 2002, in that game and FFXIV hundreds of thousands of players use PS3/PS4 .. lots of people 'get' doing so if that's what they used for the first MMO they played.
