How do I get worms?

I stopped playing shortly after update 3. Just came back and I can't find bait worms anywhere.

I kill low level skeletons, they don't drop loot, let alone bait.

I kill skeletons of my level, they don't drop worms.

I farm wormwood, no worms. (did this get changed too?)

Come on now, is it really this difficult to get bait?

Worms drop from zombies, not skeletons. Vile lab in Cold Harbor is a good farming location, but other areas with zombies will do. The starter prison, before you leave the weapon area is another good location. All plants have a chance for worms, but it will take a while to get many this way. Easiest is buy from guild stores, as long as you are not paying more than 10-15g each.

Just went around ye old zombie grinder and they spat out crawlers. Go fish?

edit: had to go around twice to get one worm. Seriously? That's like 40 zombies for one worm. Is there no other way?

Everything that drops worms also drops crawlers, RNG in action. Crawlers are fine for foul water. There is a great fishing guide here.

I remember getting worms and crawlers from things in cold harbor. I know sometimes I get worms from harvesting things on occasion, especially if my mischevious partner gets ahead of me and takes the plant and leaves the worms.

You could also try shouting out in chat, I'm sure there are a few friendly folks who would send you a handful of worms in game mail or something. I would.

@lago , I've always thought it was from eating out of the trash?

OP, worms are often coupled with Alchemical Reagents (flowers/mushrooms).

Collect the worms and leave the flowers and you will make many a cranky potion maker quite happy. (They get upset when you do it the other way.)

I always take both. I think fishing is one of the most enjoyable bits in the game.

Not that I actually do any fishing. I've tried it a few times and I kind of like it, but after a minute I always feel like I should be doing something more productive. I'm planning on doing more fishing in the future though

That's too bad. The one thing this thread proves is there is a demand for worms. If the price isn't set too high, they will sell in guild stores. I've never NOT sold worms I list. Fishers of Tamriel would love to have more worms for sale.
