How to get started on the PTS?

I posted over in the PTS section of the forum yesterday but but still haven't got a response, so I will ask here.
When I logged into my PTS account, I found that all my characters were copied from the main server, which makes sense. But I want to try out different builds and vr14 gear -- light, medium, heavy sets -- and combos along with different weapons and skills. That costs gold and requires materials for gear upgrades, enchants, crafting gear, etc.
I'm not going to grind for gold and mats for enchants, etc., on the PTS.
Is there some way to get gear or gold on the PTS so I can try stuff out? Older PTS versions included gold and gear sets on new toons. What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something?
Any advice?

✭You need to create a template character. If you don't have room delete one of the copied chars so you can make a template.
Then, just click the "create" button and you will be able to find the drop down menu in the upper left to create a VR14 template. When you log it in, just skip the tutorial and you will be placed in Craglorn along with gold, gear, jewelrey and other items in your bag. Only catch is you will not have any morphed skills available since they did not want that option this time. You will have to level up the base skills first.6
