A moment of reflection

In December ZOS made the announcement regarding a flat rate reward of 30 CP to any account that had at least one VR1 character. Their rationale was that it was essential to the balance of the game and that they didn't want veteran players to have an overwhelming advantage over newer players by awarding additional points.

Fast forward to early January, based on the reaction in the forums and assumed large number of sub cancellations and "feedback", ZOS changed their stance and agreed to award up to a max of 70 CP per account.

Knowing what we know now regarding the Champion System and 1.6 changes, I find it difficult to believe that ZOS has any real understanding of what character progression really is, or yet again we are victims of another bait and switch.

In 1.6s current form (shield stacking aside), characters are generally far weaker and doing far less damage than on live even with 70 CP. Did ZOS really find having more than 30 CP to be so OP that it would ruin balance within the game? I find that hard to believe. If true, then ZOS really is incompetent; or did something else occur?

Did ZOS acquiesce to 70 CP for PR reasons and then behind the scenes change the regen/damage rates and health pools to compensate for those added 40 CP resulting in no real difference in character power and capability?

Obviously we will never know for certain. What is certain is that in no way, shape, or form would more than 30 CP cause any character to be OP based on 1.6 as it is now. Even 70 CP doesn't come close to restoring characters to their current level. Incompetence or insidious; what do you think?

One of my favorite quotes is: "Never attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity." It's actually Hanlon's Razor. I don't know if it applies here, but I feel like more and more that it does.
