I can, and if I come to logical conclusion that a particular opinion is either extremely naive or stupid, I can move forward and form a general opinion on the person itself.
Sometimes I'm proven wrong (at which point I apologize), but usually I hit the nail on the head

Instead of apologizing for insulting someone if you are proven wrong, wouldn't it be better to just not insult him in the firstplace?

Yes, you are right I probably shouldn't do that.
