I think you're discounting their strategy for the console players. I'm a pc gamer but I understand why they did not want to "penalize" console players by making them pay the ESO sub and the console subs.

Nothing to do with numbers, everything to do with console business models. Once they established that they couldn't arrange for console users to access the game without paying a network charge they knew they couldn't expect those users to pay a subscription on top of the network charge, thus it was also inevitable that the game would go BTP.

@Tandor the problem with this is that ZOS has not said that was the reason. There is also the fact that new content has been withheld since at least July that will now be sold as DLC. This was a long time in the planning. The fact that microschlock didn't go along with what zos wanted may have been the straw that broke the camels back, but this was planned for a very long time, probably before the game even launched.

ZOS now has serious credibility issues. The are making a grave error by failing to address this.

    It makes sense....

No, it does not. If there were not enough, it would be a) because players played but left, b) players did not even start. Now P2W is not going to help a), because players left for other reasons than subscription (they would not start if they did not like it), such as not liking design, not liking bugs, having attention span of 1-2 month etc. More importantly, it's not going to help b), because you still have to buy the box to start playing. If they needed new players really really badly and fast, they would instead offer free download & X-day trial to remove barriers for entry and pontentially hook any player with even slightest interest in the game.
So, I am more inclined to blame it on greed, if not outright evil masterplan

Don't underestimate the psychology behind a subscription. When a game has a subscription, people feel forced to play it (or waste money by not doing so).

People will gladly pay $60 for a new CoD or BF game and play that for only 10 hours, but having a recurring payment is too much. That's just the way it is.

... This is why we millenials get called entitled.

Actually, if we go off the average age of gamers...you likely may not be arguing with a millennial.

Entitlement has been around since the first Pharaoh felt the need to bury his entire collection of advisors and slaves with him in their pyramid. A college course I was taking called "The Art of Public Speaking" directly pounded the abhoration of a four letter "F" word... "FAIR". The use of this word discredited every argument a speaker would make due to the inverse correlation of life experiences.

People want to feel entitled because they do NOT feel they are being treated fairly. How they are being treated is something different altogether... equally with respect to the support given in the past. I'm sure those slaves that were starving to death down in the tombs with the Pharaohs DID NOT consider it a great honor to be buried with their god, but perhaps it was more of "I better do my duty to my culture or my family gets the scythe".

You're absolutely right... the only thing I would say though is, you can blame ZoS/Bethesda. Not for changing the model on their game, but for the way the went about with it, lying and trying to deceive (see: popup window on launcher). I'd much rather they were transparent. In any case, you are right: we have to decide whether to stay or go. I'm still torn myself and could use some help with that, which is where an explicit "sorry we changed this after saying we weren't" or "please stay and trust us with this" from ZoS would go a long ways.

I guess what I'm saying is, all I want from the company at this point is a little sympathy, empathy or at least some polite acknowledgement, rather than a patronizing attempt to pretend that we were all onboard with this all along and this is some kind of novel, brilliant idea they just came up with. I am not trying to convey a sense of entitlement or egomania; I'm not asking for a mention by name or anything, just that they acknowledge they have a lot of players like me who don't like this, would like to keep trusting them and need some reassurance.

Every structured organization has a Business Resumption Plan, or Restructuring Flow Chart. Did they plan for this to be their primary goal... of course not. If they did, the Consoles would have received their game six months ago and we'd already be in buy to play.

The primary goal of any business is to stay in business. Believe it or not, making money is not the top priority in a well run business, its the by product of being in business. Sure ZOS wants to rake in the $$$, but they also want to maintain their brand, ensure customer loyalty, and evolve as a premier organization for years to come. You want to see a company that's in it for the money, and only the money? Electronic Arts. You want another one? Activision. Those two companies are slaves to their consumers because they have grown so big they can't be anything but.

Anyone remember the MASS EFFECT melt down? A very popular game with a seriously flawed ending. Was there some sort of double entendre in the ending sequence that we didn't get? Was Sheperd Bioware and that weird blue thing we were shooting at EA? Was the whole theory of indoctrination how the entire Bioware team felt about their monthly production meetings with EA suits?

How about Diablo III DRM/Auctionhouse failure? Needed a connection to play? Took the skinner box to just be about clicking and loot, but not much suspense, story environment, immersion. If you want the land of unicorns and rainbows.. this is it. Literally a secret level for your frustrations. The secret cow level in Diablo 2 was from the rumors of the Hellfire expansion for Diablo. They listened to the fans, preyed on speculation, fear, doubt, and made millions off of them.
