Do You LIke the Upcoming Changes to Mounts?

So amidst all of the B2P talk, it seems like the announcement about how mounts are changing has attracted relatively little attention.

For those who don't know how the system is changing, please see this post and this post.

My poll is simple: do you like these upcoming changes or not?

Personally I like them. I've wanted to get a black horse for a long time, but I couldn't justify spending that much gold on a horse that would be strictly inferior to my speed horse. Now I can buy and ride that horse without feeling like I'm putting myself at a disadvantage. Heck, I'll probably buy 1 of each horse so that I can ride whichever one I want, depending on my mood.

As a whole I think it's better than the current system, though it does take out the unique properties of each individual mount.

From my understanding it's character skill, but that might be something to ask clarification on in the thread that I linked in the OP.

Im just curious to see how this is going to work. Ive heard that everything youve poured into previous horses wont be going anywhere. But Im still curious to see the actual Riding Skill. If its a skill at all, if it requires skill points from normal leveling and skyshards etc.

Nope. You go to a horse master, and click one of the 3 options same as you did with the horses, only now it's called 'riding lessons' instead of 'feeding', and the increase in stat(speed, capacity or stamina) is applied to your character instead of to the horse.

I think people need to understand why the changes are actually happening. Its not primarily due to convenience, though it is no doubt convenient for the current players.

Its to sell cash shop mounts.

When the skill is character based, it makes it much more likely that you will buy a mount on an impulse, since you no loner need to then spend the next 50 days getting it up to scratch and choosing what its for. It makes impulse buys of mounts a possibility.

I actually quite like it and it has given me a target for my characters to each have all 3 mounts maxed out.

A wee bit peeved that all my characters bought the epic mounts, as under the new system that's giving me the same boost as a basic mount with just 10 days feeding. But I guess systems change.

I immediately bought the black horse when I read about the changes because I've been wanting one too for the appearance but other horses had better stats. Will feed it for stamina so I get that boost on top of the others when this goes live.

Plus I figured all the new stuff from now on will go straight to the cash shop so all the in game gold I've hoarded for future mounts, pets, and housing will be useless and I might as well spend it.

The way I read the posts about it, each character's riding skill is based on the level of the mounts the character has already fed, but the appearance of any horse a character has can be used by any character on the account.

If I feed my new black horse to 50 stamina the character that fed it will get 50 stamina on riding skill. Any of my other characters can also ride a black horse but will not have the 50 stamina until they level it themselves.

That was the way I read it too, but I wasn't 100% sure if that's what was meant.

I'm hoping they'll put an article on the website with examples and illustrations - I had some questions about details too like whether the +10 for the more expensive mounts will still apply.

Look to Lotro for the roadmap to p2w. Mount changes are always made to make store-mounts & (the eventual) mount buffs more attractive.

I was afraid with the new mounts coming I'd have to level them all up again and be slow AF for the longest time, glad thats not the case!
