Why is this game B2W

I don't understand this. They stated over and over and over again this game wont go F2P, yet now it is. What is the core reason for this?

Why are they having a loyalty program and a non loyalty program? Whats the point of DLC? that you can also apparently buy? So this game is now a Single Player game with MMO like aspects? I am so very confused.

I read the article, I read the FAQ. I don't get it. Is ESO moving towards ES with Online Features?

Also why is there a "Gem Store?" Doesn't your "loyalty" thing give you the money you need? So your gonna put in things like BOA's and Gear and Crafting thingies?

I smell Everquest 2.

No, lol. It's not changing from an MMO to an SP. That's ridiculous. The game isn't going to be changing that much at all from what it currently is, except that there will be a cash shop with cosmetics and boosts and an optional sub that gives you crowns and buffs to get more gold, XP, etc. Future content updates (probably such a new zones, trials, dungeons, etc.) will be considered DLC and you'll have to pay for them in the same aspect as you paid for Dawnguard, Dragonborn for Skyrim. The game as it is currently won't be any different.

The will make a killing selling the box for this F2P game... think about it companies can now make a F2P game and sell you a box to get the core part of the game...

They will make so much money on Xbox and then cash shop after they are singing all the way to the bank.

wait I have to pay for content that should be free? what are these expansions? For the last year these major updates have been free. They need to remain free.

also people stop refering to this a F2P, F2P means you dont pay anything, ever. You can but you dont have to. B2P is like GW2, you BUY the game to PLAY the game.

But they haven't been free, you've been paying for a sub. Also, they stated that gameplay updates, etc. WILL be free, it's DLC that you have to pay for.

It's pretty simple why it's going buy to play, because they're releasing it on consoles, most console players won't pay a subscription game, they tend to buy games and move on and if they don't have a sub on the console version then why would the PC players agree to pay a sub?

What it all comes down to is sustainable income for the company, if they feel turning it into a buy to play will bring them more money then they will make it buy to play.

If I remain subbed do they remain free? I do not want to pay for things while subbed after this whole thing goes "B2W"

Technically they told the truth. They said it would never go Free To Play, and as such currently it is going Buy To Play (One time purchase with plus premium services) instead of Pay To Play (First game purchase followed by constant rental fees) with a cash shop of sorts for cosmetic and cheap goods needs.

Note I say cheap goods since the items that are actually usable in the sense of player use in a raid, i.e potions, aren't as good as crafted ones. Other words, you're supplying yourself with cheap ***.

Also yes, all DLC just comes to you, much like how each update and big patch has come to us now. Basically keeping up your sub means nothing changes for you aside from a thing or two getting better.

I honestly do believe models such as these are better for the future as opposed to older ones such as WoW where you still pay 15 a month and then 40-60 for a *** expansion pack after waiting months and entire seasons at a time for a patch here and there for a single raid.

Basically WoW's model proves they sell Digital Crack Cocaine and not a video game, for nobody in their right mind should want that *** and pay money for it.

Release a quality game that wasn't full of bugs and exploits reported in beta that are still there after 9 months of release.

Then.. because I didn't release a buggy, rushed POS, my game wouldn't lose 80% of it's initial subscribers.

yes, if you keep the sub going, then you will get all the DLC included with your subscription. But if you cancel your subscription, you will lose access to that DLC unless you buy it separately.

From what I understand, if you keep the sub option the DLC will be included. So it would be basically the same as it currently is.

some people have stated that console players don't want to pay a subscription. FF14 has no issue with this and its on ps 3/4 and PC. So if they can do it why cant ESO. Keep subscription and get rid of the cash store.

There's way more F2P games, and they include LoL in the F2P MMO category, which by itself brings in tons of money. Kind of a skewed graphic.

You do realize there isn't a shred of evidence for anything on that site, right? They just made up a bunch of nonsense and put up a Wordpress page. Only the companies that run MMOs know what their subscriber numbers and microtransaction sales actually are, and they generally don't reveal any detailed information about them, even to their investors.

That's the only difference between B2P and F2P, that you have to buy the game to play it. Outside of that it may as well be F2P.

I think it may be advantageous for people to educate themselves with the system. If you are subbed, then you do not need to pay any additional cash or crowns for DLC. If you are not subbed, then you can pay for DLC with either cash or crowns. Subbed members get access to the DLCs without having to pay any more cash than what they are paying with their sub. Essentially, you pay $15/month to have access to all content. The reason this system was implemented is because they couldn't charge console players for a sub when they are already paying for Xbox live or PSN. If you remain subbed, then nothing changes except receiving crowns to spend on the content available in the crown store; you will not need to pay for the DLC in crowns or cash. Make sense?
