It depends. I'm in no way against Crowns being obtainable without using your credit card.
But this system needs to be controlled somehow. Otherwise gold becomes heavily devalued. Eventually you need monster trucks of gold to purchase 1 store currency. That's sadly been my experience in 9/10 MMO's with a free exchange market.
I dont want a game where only hardcore farmers + merchandisers are able to afford store currency with gold, while casual players always have to use their credit card. To expensive for my taste. Also leads to a very nasty community, that's mostly about finding ways to make money of others, instead of playing the actual game.
My favourite system is store currency connected to unlocking achievements or weekly quests. Would absolutely adore that feature. If bored, go finish that Aldmeri Dominion Conquerer achievement and afterwards you can afford a new dress or a pet
