Dear ESO: GW2 Cash Shop or ToR?

If the cash shop in ESO is more akin to GW2 or The Secret World rather than ToR or LOTRO I will be over the moon thrilled.

Which would you guys rather it be?

If they already had weapon/armor skins in game, I would give it a chance of being GW2 version. Since that seems to be impossible, I would put it on the Lotro buy to win cash shop. (Having been through both Lotros and SwToRs switches to Pay To Win, yeah,, this feels just like that.)

I also went through the LotRO and SWtOR F2P transition and recall LotRO being OK at first, but man oh man did it ever change in the following years.

I have had no problem with the GW2 model, and have only ever purchased character slots in the store there. They have done a good job of keeping any advantage stuff out of the store. You can of course change RL money into gold to buy stuff in game, but the rate is so absurdly high (thousands of $$ if you to even consider buying a legendary weapon) that it just isn't a real issue.

I hope for the same thing with this move.

I really hope it is only cosmetic, because not everyone will buy the 180 days sub. So it wouldn't be fair to have 180-subs have advantage over 90-days subs.

I add Rift to the list of "it's okay", to me LoTRO's Store isn't the main problem with that game, it's the way the game design is simply to 'drive' Store sales.

The laughable 'pay-2-win' epithet doesn't concern me at all when people toss it about like "silver platter" and "slap in the face", however in the case of LoTRO the entire game design focus changed .. with Rift the Store hasn't really had much effect, though recently Trion have made one or two decisions which makes me question their long-term direction.

I love the knee-jerk rage-quit spam round here .. it reminds me so much in 2011 with Rift, in 2010 (2009?) with LoTRO and 2012 with SW:TOR.

It MAY turn out badly, it MAY NOT, but some people simply don't have the intellect to deal with that.

Power level to CP160 in a week:
Where is the end game? You just played it.
Why don't I have 300+ skill points? Because you skipped content along the way.
    Where is new content? Sigh.

They will sell costumes and crafting motifs in the crown shop, for sure.
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

Agreed. At first I actually gladly subbed in LOTRO even though I really didn't need to because their cash shop was fairly unobtrusive. Like you say though, that changed for the worse. My hope is that we see a purely cosmetic shop with some boosters etc. My hope is that the entirety of the game is available to those who purchase the box. We shall see though.

Wait, what? What advantage are you thinking a 180 day sub has over a 90 day sub? All of the subscription options get 1500 crowns per month (well, per 30 days) of the sub. The only advantage I can think of is that because the crowns are given to you at the start of the subscription period the guy with the 180 day sub gets 9000 crowns right away, while the guy with the 90 day sub gets 4500 crowns right away, and then another 4500 crowns in 90 days (assuming he stays subscribed). I don't really see why that would be a big advantage, though.
