Should I push to VR14 now or wait?

Once 1.6 goes live will we continue to gain both VR ranks and CPs?

Any thoughts on whether there will be an advantage to being a higher VR rank when 1.7 goes live and we presumably lose our VR ranks (such as perhaps keeping our VR skill points or ability points)?

Just trying to figure out if I want to push to VR14 (from VR9) before 1.6 goes live or wait until after?

VR ranks won't go away until 1.7. However, if you want to maximize your CP, get one character to VR 14 now (assuming you only have one veteran character). If you have multiple vet chars, you'll need to do some math to figure it out, but each 200k exp a character gains once hitting VR1 gains 1 CP....you will be capped at a 70 CP initial conversion when 1.6 hits.

    Thanks.
I suppose I am not as worried about how many CPs I will get when 1.6 goes live as any inherent benefits that might come from being a hirer VR level when we lose VRs in 1.7.

My sense is that for the Gold content I have left I would actually get more CPs (overall) if I wait until after 1.6 is live. I have nothing to base that on other than a gut feeling (meanIng the conversion that will be applied at 1.6 will be worth less than doing the quests after the fact).

Again, this is all speculation, but I can't help but obsess over the thought that there might be a chance that VR characters may get to keep some benefits of their VR ranks when 1.7 hits (again, such as skill points earned for each VR). Probably just wishful thinking on my part!

If that is the case then getting to VR14 before 1.6 goes live would be a huge boon (assuming you cannot gain further VR ranks after 1.6 goes live and before 1.7 hits the servers - which I am still unclear if you will be able to gain VR ranks once 1.6 is live???).

I think you will get better CP from this conversion than from doing content after the conversion. ZOS have stated they expect it to take 4 hours to earn a CP. They have also stated it should take about 10 hours to earn a Vet Rank. That works out to about 2.5 CP per VR. But with the conversion you are getting 5 CP per VR. So it seems like they are being generous with the conversion.

Probably the min/max way to do it would be to get some combo of characters to 70CP (1 VR14, 2 VR7, a VR9 and a VR3 and a VR2, or whatever), then go take a nap until Update 6 goes live. You will have maxed out your 70CP from the conversion while still leaving yourself as much content as possible to earn more CP.

But I would not be too excited about having Cadwell's Silver and Gold left to do. If it works out to 2.5CP per VR, that is about 25CP from Cadwell's Silver and Gold. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of 3600 possible Champion Points. The Champion Points are clearly designed to give you advancement once you are finished with the fixed, non-repeatable content and have moved on to repeatable content like dungeons, trials, PvP, Craglorn, Justice System, etc.

You are likely best served by just doing what sounds like fun to you at any given time. If you don't you are basically saying, "I'd like to do A right now with Character B, but I'll force myself to do X with Character Y, because I want to max out Champion Points in 3 years instead of 3.1 years."

tl;dr = You will earn all that XP and CP sooner or later, might as well have as much fun as possible along the way

There's something very important to consider when making a decision such as the one you're thinking about. All veteran rank gear, crafted and dropped, and including all the glyphs you might have applied or are saving to apply, and all the jewelry you've acquired will have to be recalibrated in some way once veteran ranks go away and all our characters are reverted back to level 50.

So an important question – one for which we have absolutely no answer – is do you want to invest in all the veteran rank gear, accessories, glyphs, food, pots, etc., now as you continue to level your character? There is a risk it will all be worthless and your time and/or gold invested in it will be wasted when the downgrade back to level 50 happens. To my knowledge, ZOS has not provided any solid information about this extremely important aspect of the coming character level changes.

My own decision has been to basically freeze my two vr14 characters where they are for now. My vr14 Templar has completed all of Cadwell's silver/gold. I have not done much more in PvE with her, and am currently using her for crafting and PvP play only. My vr14 Sorcerer had started silver, is about halfway through the 2nd zone, and is parked there. These days I'm leveling an under 50 DK and a Nightblade. I plan to stop with them once they hit 50. In fact, the DK is at level 46 at the moment and I'm probably going to stop there. Will only take her into non-vet PvP where leveling is much slower. The NB is only at level 6 at the moment, and I don't plan to rush with that character.

There are just too many unanswered questions for me to feel comfortable continuing to progress my two veteran rank characters.

As of yesterday, ZOS said that they have not said that we are definitely losing vet ranks in 1.7 (see dev post from Gina Bruno). Pretty much everything you hear from other players is speculation at this point so it's best to just play the way you most enjoy until we have more info.

If you're VR9 already then yes absolutely. 1.7 is months away at least. The difference between VR9 gear and VR14 gear alone is pretty significant. You'll feel a lot more powerful.

I'd say level up, start getting the armor, and enjoy the game. Maybe jut grind to max from now on in order to be able to gain CPs by doing main quest.

You should do what is fun for you, playing the game to max out a character in a scheme that we don't know much about (how VR Ranks are going to go away and what will happen to the gear) is quite difficult and will probably lead to disappointment.

That being said, what I would do is slow down on your VR9 now and build up another VR character to say VR4 or VR5. That will give you the max or near the max CPs at the first phase of the conversion. Depending on how much into VR9 and VR5 the other characters get.

Then you can decide how to progress from there. I am currently leveling a class I have not built yet as my VR characters add up to the Max right now.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Good advice to just play the way a person most enjoys until we have more info and really there isn't much choice for people who want to continue playing. The only problem is that ZOS can't keep players hanging forever. We know massive changes are coming. We know the game is essentially being redesigned in very important ways, but we don't know much more than that. This is not a sustainable position for ZOS or the game.

They aren't going to give a definite date for the removal of VR because they can't know when that is. The whole point of rolling out the Champion System in stages is to let them balance it before they completely eliminate the old system.

I'm still curious what happens to the skillpoints from veteran ranks after update 1.7.

I mean, personally, I could go without some of them when all research stuff has been completed someday and I'd do a skill respec and not put the ones for shorter research times back in. But it still would be nice to change/switch already unlocked skills on the bar in 2 seconds instead of doing a respec everytime just to get the required amount of skillpoints back for that.

So I really would like to keep them, or at least to be able to gain more after level 50, even without levelling up anymore.
Btw, I'm not doing PvP, so I do not have half a million extra skillpoints to spend; that's what makes the additional 13 from veteran ranks so precious..

You just know that as soon as you respec out the research skills that the 10 trait will be introduced to the game......

you know I was thinking of doing the same but now I'm unsure of which race to play, since I hear ZOS may be redoing passives. Sigh so many unknowns I decided just to go play some single player games for a while again.

Isn't it fun to pay a company to beta test their game?
