Simple question which i did not find answer by Googling..

Is battlereeve a sort of Altmeri battlemage? What is Battlereeve? It sounds like a title that comes with certain skills and their use in specific situation, it does not sound like a honorary title however..

Please, if someone knows actual lore behind this or at least some hints of iyt, i would be very glad :)

    Reeve:
    1. The elected president of a town council in some parts of Canada.
    2. Any of various minor officers of parishes or other local authorities.
    3. A bailiff or steward of a manor in the later medieval period.
    4. A high officer of local administration appointed by the Anglo-Saxon kings.

I'm going to go with 4, a senior official. Battle-reeve, so responsible for war-related matters.

Well a Reeve is a rank, usually involving managing an specific area.

So a Battle Reeve would be a rank in charge of combat/troops, probably the Mage equivalent of a Major or Colonel, but that's just a guess, it could be the equivalent of any rank.

    Some clarifications, thanks :)

knowinf rgis now, i would also go to high Officer in matters of wwar/army.. Taking in account that it is connected to Altmer, i would guess a Battlereeve is also a magick wielder so a dort of battlemage in high position on Auridon matines..

Also, since it is high rank, i think i cant really use it as a character title, added to name.. Need to be something else.

The way I see it, is that the Canonreeves are the high-up political leaders (governors, mayors, etc) and the Battlereeves are the high-up military leaders (generals, colonels, etc).

It could be one of those titles that are gained by inheritance rather than merit too.

Canonreeves could be Religious leaders, a Canon is a Religious sector of the country, and Canonical means according to the doctrines of faith.

Mind you that's a Christian (Roman Catholic I think) term, so might not be what the games designers were going for.

Well... Canonreeve is a political leader... no religious connection needed (save that of the Altmer themselves)... and Ballereeve is a military leader.

    Simple as that.

Reeve is a title denoting authority, and is typically combined with another word to indicate what type of authority. The best example from the real world is shire reeve, indicating the individual with authority over a particular shire. That title has evolved over the years into the title sheriff.

Here in the US,the term Sheriff derives from Shire Reeve. So I would assume the Battlereeve is the person in charge of battle.

I grew up in Canada too - the only place I ever heard the term reeve is in history texts and various fantasy books. Funny thing is, it's actually a title that's used for the elected head of some municipalities in Canada, but despite having lived in Canada my whole life I never knew that until just recently.

There is an "official" document inside the game where you can find that there is more than one Battlereeve and that he is not the captain of Vulkhel Watch guard (like his wiki entry says):

I tried to question Battlereeve Urcelmo of the Aldmeri Dominion about this but apparently he had been turned into a monkey...

I'm guessing his answers were along the lines of "EEEK ook eeek" then.
