Will V1 char have to be subscribed and/or logged to get 30 CPs?

Only those chars that are V1 when 1.6 launches, will supposedly get 30 CPs. What does that exactly mean? V1 from a database standpoint, only subscribed V1 or V1 that is logged on the day 1.6 launches?

Presumably, you'll have to be subscribed, but I'm sure they'll specify when 1.6 launches if a log-in is needed to claim the points.

It would be good if they could specify that sooner, as it would help those that would rather wait for after 1.6, due to bugs and other problems that will be there.
Unless a player that does that is somehow less valuable.

A player who repeatedly cancels/renews their subscription should be fully aware of the potential consequences of doing so. It's not ZO's job to cater to players who aren't playing.

From my understanding everyone that has at least one VR1 character, will get those 30 Champion Points.

It shouldn't matter if you are subscribed or not. Even if I'd rather not have them receive any points. There should be some consequences if you are not subscribed ;)

@Razzak‌, finally a good question about the Champion System.

Exactly. If you're not subbed at the time and it's not game breaking (not receiving CP's is not game breaking), why would you recieve anything?

People who have never played the game a day in their life won't receive them either.

There should be logical consequences to on again/off again subs. This is one of them.

Well you will definately need to be subscribed, and I would presume you will need to log in with that character within a few days of it happening (I can't see it being a one day thing).

I see this as more reason to walk away if your subscription time runs out before 1.6 comes out and you are unable to renew it right away.

Now the incentive to return has been reduced.

Too bad for those who don't have a continuous subscription, but in the long term, it is not the player that suffers. They will be happily off playing something else.

Observe the difference between the following 3 pseudo-SQL statements:

(executed when patch is applied to the server, i.e. once)
    Option 1:
    Update account_settings SET champion_points = 30

    Option 2:
    Update account_settings SET champion_points = 30 where account_status="active"

(executed when you log into your account)
    Option 3:
    Update account_settings SET champion_points = 30 where champion_points == null

Options 1 and 2 make the most sense, because they are run once, when the patch is applied. Option 3 makes less sense because it would run over and over every time you logged in post-1.6, but only actually update CPs once.

I could make a comment on how this is ZOS so obviously it will be Option 3, but I won't. Oops.

Makes total sense until you stop and think that the V1+ character existed prior to 1.6 and it was just through a gap in the subscription that the player does not get the CP.

Imagine, if you will, that it is a less harsh version of a scenario where an unbroken string of time dating back to March 30 runs out on Jan 6. You must be a subscriber on Jan 7 to get the CP. You are unable to get a new time card until Jan 8. You activate it on Jan 8 and you don't get CP.

You make excuses and derive plans and all sorts of things, but the player still loses the CP because they were not active on the day that the CP were awarded.

This is not like the loyalty rewards, where if you are not active on Jan 7 you just get pushed back a month.

So, yeah, the player coming back now has a VR1+ from months ago and no CP. Everyone else he has been playing with has 30 CP. What's the point of returning? You get Update 6 without any of the benefits.

I've been trying to find some info regarding that time period. I also think it should be more than one day. A week would probably offer most chances to get anyone close enough, to Vet1 and those 30 CPs.

It does make some sense, as they are still their customers, even if they are not their current subscriber.

But on the other hand it could be wrong if one such player got into the game a two weeks after 1.6 and had 30 CPs, while the one that hadn't had a V1 char at the 1.6, but does at that time, is still working towards them.

It's probably going to be a matter of having at least 1 VR1+ character when the server gets updated. The most sensible plan is that they'll update the server database immediatly after applying the patch, giving everybody who is entitled to it the 30 points. This is the easiest and most logical solution.

Tying it to an active subscription at the time of the server getting updated is going to cause some issues because someone's subscription might expire around patch day and it would be really unfair if someone was unsubscribed for half a day and ended up missing out on the 30 CP. Doesn't seem likely.

Gifting the 30 CP to players as they log in seems like a lot of work as they'd have to be constantly checking whether it's the first time the player logs in since update 6 and if so whether the player is eligible. Also unnecessary if they just update their database before turning the megaserver back on.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. The simplest solution is probably the one they're going for. ;)

Besides, they're going to put it on the PTS beforehand and we'll probably get the free 30 CP in the same way, so that will be a good preview of how it will work on the live server.

Apologies for coming across harsher than intended.

I imagine there will be a window of opportunity here, though I doubt they will make it a long one.

It's will probably similar to the week long 1g respecs.

Who knows, they might send it out as an email attachment giving it 30 days to be valid that way.

I'm not saying it's reasonable or unreasonable either way. Life events happen.

Hopefully they will have the foresight to allow a little bit of leeway in this without allowing people to somehow take advantage.

You could always try pleading your case with Customer Services, I imagine they will want to retain as many people as possible.

Which is why I suspect in will be more than just the day it launches for the 30CPs, more like a week as @Razzak said, and you will probably be able to get them via CS if your not playing that week.

But keep your subscription up to be safe.
