Maintenance for the week of September 15:
• [COMPLETE] Xbox: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 16, 6:00AM EDT (10:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)
• [COMPLETE] PlayStation®: NA and EU megaservers for patch maintenance – September 16, 6:00AM EDT (10:00 UTC) - 12:00PM EDT (16:00 UTC)

It's Tuesday, January 6th. Will you be performing maintenance today?

Time zones magic. The maintenance on the EU Megaserver starts at 10:00 PM EST on a Monday, so it's already Tuesday for European folks.

Everyone knows that, so do you. Why don't you put that info also on the English message, as you do on the French and German one?! Is that hard? The English speaking costumers reside in different time zones. Is it a lack of touch with the reality? Ignorance? A political statement? You could put the data and the CET within (), that simple!

If everyone knows it, then maybe everyone should be able to figure it out without someone re-explaining how time zones work every time there's a maintenance.

I think they fired the person that translates from US English to International English?
When they hire a new one, they need to get that person to fix the dates on the main site... the English (Int'l) news pages still use the English (US) date format. The German and French dates are in the International format, so why aren't the English (Int'l) ones?

I live very close to Bethesda Softworks and ZOS in Maryland, and I almost never have the lag issues that others have. I'm not sure if distance to servers play into it as I don't work in IT or server administration.

Thank you for your response. But, what does it actually mean? Will you be doing maintenance (not patch) today or later this week? You do realize there are problems with the performance that weren't there before last maintenance? Doesn't that warrant doing it?

There will be no maintenance or server restart today. Gina has elaborated further on the subject in a previous thread. If you wish to provide further information regarding the performance issues you are observing, we would recommend you to contact CS. They will gather data in order to understand what is really happening. We understand this is not going to be a popular statement, but a server restart is not always the solution, this is why the more information and data we get from the players, the better.

From what I understand they are trying to address the performance issue (supposedly lack of maintenance is not the problem here)?

I admit it's kinda wierd how some people (including me) have no issues with the game, while others have so many.

The problem could be with the route that the player's ISP takes to get the ESO servers, and the IP traffic congestion at specific times of the day.

When I had Comcast, my latency was 45 - 90 ms when playing ESO and I only had four routers between my home network and the ESO network; two of the routers belong to Comcast the other two where public. Also the routes would change every week using different routers. Unfortunately the Comcast modem would reset daily so after three months of this, and *** poor support, I switched to AT&T U-verse.

Now with AT&T I have the same U/D speed, but my latency is 100-130 ms. Under AT&T, I go through 15 routers to get to the ESO network. The route is not direct either. I live in Florida, but my traffic goes through several routers located on the west coast, and the the rest are public. After several weeks of testing, I go through the same ten routers so my route never changes within the AT&T network. In fact, when I browse to a web site locate in Miami, Florida (only 100 mile from where I live) my traffic is still routed through the same AT&T router located on the west coast!

The problem is compounded by the time of day that I play. Even though with AT&T I have fiber from the pole to the switching center, during hours from 6 -12 pm ESO becomes unplayable with a latency of 200 - 300 ms because other AT&T customers streaming video content.

The other problem is how your ISP manages the congestion at peak IP usage. Comcast did an excellent job at doing this while AT&T really sucks at it.

So currently I'm paying $20 more with AT&T for the same D/L speed as Comcast, and with a higher latency, but I at least I never lose my network connection.

BUT, when I play Battlefield 4, my latency is 50 ms, and I only go through four routers, two AT&T and two public before connecting the the Battlefield 4 network. I never have a problem with frame rate drops in Battlefield 4.

So the moral of the story is, you have no control of the route of the game data once it leaves your computer. I my case Comcast used extremely efficient dynamic routing and AT&T uses extremely inefficient routing.

Another point is that routes can change (AT&T may be the exception here) due to network congestion which may explain why one day your connection to ESO is fine and then the next two days it sucks.

Also note that each connection between the routers will have a different line quality which will affect your latency and line jitter.

I talked about how the data route is different from my computer to ESO using two ISP companies, but this principle also applies to data sent from the ESO network to your computer: the data sent by the ESO servers does not use the same public routers or the same route as it was sent by your computer.

Any finally, the other complex variable that the ESO developers have to take in consideration is the player's computer and home network configuration.

In short, its a miracle that all of this even works!

That said, we are planning to release patch 1.5.8 next Monday, and will continue to keep an eye on performance and any potential critical issues. If we feel a maintenance before next week is necessary, we'll get something scheduled and will let you know.

The DA:I board is even more toxic than this one, the PC version is bugged from start to finish, not that I can even run it because in over 30 years gaming I've found it to be the only game that stipulates not just the graphics cards needed to run it, but the drivers too - although that requirement is not mentioned on the box.

ESO, on the other hand, has delivered a super smooth performance on my machine since launch, which is one of the reasons I have no intention of changing the graphics drivers and therefore literally cannot play DA:I.

Wait. What?! OMG nothing you said makes any sense at all.
    1. I have been playing DA:I and I have experienced no bugs. Not a single one, and I have logged about 90 hours of time playing. The game actually keeps track of time played per character. Now I didn't get the game at release so perhaps I have a more stable version than the people complaining on the message boards, or perhaps they don't understand that...
    2. No *** you have to update your drivers. Are you seriously surprised that you need specific driver updates? That made me laugh more than anything else you said. And minimum system requirements have been printed on every box (who buys PC games in a store anymore?) since they made the first PC game. Which leads to the last point...
    3. That ESO runs terribly, and has run terribly since launch. There are periods that are better than others but those only last until the newest update that breaks the game and every addon that we are forced to download to compensate for a haphazard and lacking UI.

Yes, minimum (and recommended) system requirements have long been printed on every box including DA:I's, and I comfortably exceed the recommended system requirements for DA:I. What is not mentioned on the box of that, or to my knowledge any other, game is the specific driver requirements. That's what is different about DA:I, usually you can run a game with the same drivers that run everything else ok, just occasionally you may be prompted that upgrading them would be desirable, but DA:I is the first game I can recall in 30+ years of gaming where you cannot even begin to boot the game up unless you're using the latest drivers.
