POLL - Which payment model for MMORPG's do you prefer?

I did my best to explain each payment model without sounding bias. After you vote let us know why you voted for the payment model that you did.

Free to Play - There is no payment required to play the game. This model is heavily focused on the cash shop (items in game are sold here that can change your appearance or add value to your experience) and blocking content/characters/items behind a pay wall (you might be unable to access a certain dungeon until you pay for that access). However, this is an excellent model for helping build a large population. It also allows players to try out the game for free before investing ANY money into the game. With this model if the game is not good...no one will buy the extra items/content they sell. When done correctly (meaning it is not set up as a pay to win model)...it can be a great model for building a massive player base.

Buy to Play - You buy the game and then do not pay a subscription. This model also has a cash shop, but to a lesser extent than a Free to Play model. A B2P cash shop would include such things as vanity items. There is "rarely" any blocked content/characters/items in a B2P model. "Most" new content that is installed into the game can be accessed by everyone.

Pay to Play - You buy the game and then pay a monthly subscription. The Pay to Play model does not have any blocked content. A P2P game "generally" is updated more often than a B2P or F2P game. As the game progresses new content is installed into the game that every player can access.

    Pay to Play
Three-monthly Pay-to-Pay installments (usually for around $40 AU) I've found over the years I prefer when an option. I feel it gives me a good balance, one can only 'see' so far into the future after all.

Addendum: It's really nice to see an unbiased poll too, thank you!

    Pay to Play
If this game starts putting the best gear in the cash shops, I will not only leave, I will denounce this game.

I do not approve of cash shops/paywall blocks of ANY kind. I just don't. I believe everything should be obtainable in the game itself. One should only have to pay to buy the game and pay for updates/patches/fixes/expansions. That's what I think

    Pay to Play
Only Pay to Play, but we don't need more Topics like this. And i think everyone here will be after Pay to Play except few trolls and maybe some people with less cash to spend on fun. Sub model - that's main reason we are still here.

"We don't need anymore topics like this."

I'd disagree and say that the more information a company has from its customers the better. Especially when they see it in a statistical format like this. Companies and even governments pay A LOT of money for simple polls like this to be conducted at different points in time.

    Pay to Play
    F2P- 12 year olds
    B2P- 12 year olds
    P2P- Minimal 12 year olds :D
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

    Pay to Play
I approve of putting ones money where ones mouth is. Like playing a game? Then paying for it to get a good game is the way to go. Don't like paying? Go away, there are other games around which are FtP (though they are full of all the riffraff, from gold farmers to trolls) For me, paying to experience a better standard of game is worth it.

Guild Wars 2 is a buy to play game that's generated more money than the mass majority of subscription MMORPG's....

Don't be fooled into thinking a subscription means they make more money. A subscription could also mean less people play the game....which leads to less cash shop transactions...

And League of Legends is a FREE TO PLAY model...that makes subscription MMORPG's drool at the mouth when they see their profit margins. Riot is one of the largest gaming corporations in the entire gaming industry...lol

Don't be fooled so easily into thinking subscriptions lead to higher quality products.....there is a lot more involved

The problem is that F2P games invests a lot of the money they earn into developing/putting stuff into the game that serves no other purpose than to get players to pay them more money. They have to, because that's what makes them survive.

I don't want that. I want every penny and workhour the developers invest into the game to go towards stuff i want to be in the game.
The problem I have with f2p games is that I know the drive behind developing patches and content for one. You are no longer concerned with what your users actually want or what would be cool to add to the game, you are only concerned with how to get their money by pretending to give them what they want.
