PCGamer comments on removal of 6-month subscriptions.

Maybe this has been mentioned before... Maybe not. But could it be that Zeni is just trying to make more money with cancellation of 6-month subs? Last I remember reading (and don't quote me), they had 700,000 or so subscriptions.

Suppose that even 100,000 players had the six month plan, over 6 months, Zeni would have an extra $600,000 dollars from those players that now have a 3-month subscription twice.

If the amount of players with 6-month subs is 200,000, then over 6 months, it's $1,200,000. It makes sense that at launch, they would want people enrolling into 6 month plans as they need to re-coup the cost of the game, invest for future development, and pay salaries to those in the company.

Once those initial funds were made available, they realize that for long term sustainability, they could charge that $1 more of each person per month and that would net them more money overall--that is... Now that they aren't as desperate for immediate monetary influx.

Just a thought... I could be completely off on the mark.

Wow, what a bunch of junk journalism. I fail to see why any of that should matter at all.

As long as cash shop doesn't sell pay to win items that give you an advantage over players, why would anyone get upset if the game goes B2P or F2P?

Go look at their FB page. Those are the people you would now be playing with. Thats why.

The player base of SWTOR, TSW, GW2 and LOTRO say otherwise.

TSW was the only one with a decent player mentality. I played GW2, SWTOR, and finally got to try LOTRO......those are not the kind of people I want to play with.

Well I have played all of those games and the player base is 1) not near as bad as all the doom and gloomers are claiming and 2) demographically likely very similar to the type of person who plays TESO.

You can disagree, but I too played them all, along with many other F2P titles. And as far as I'm concerned I like logging into ESO being able to ask a question and not find out who was F**** my mom last night and about how much I suck and touch myself to gay ***. No thank you P2P ESO all the way.

There are juveniles who say stuff like that in every online game, to include TESO, regardless of whether the game has a subscription or not.

    Community IS content.

Subscription based community(content) in ESO consists mostly of mature and friendly players with a slight margin of elitist jerks but you can't hide from them. (please note that i do not pvp, i'm speaking mostly from my pve experience). I often see people helping each other out, giving advice, answering questions.

From my past experience with free to play games community(content) there is:
12yo *** on pink pony, swinging a rainbow sword while teabagging your corpse and claiming he got down with your mom.

You just explained 50% or more of the players in WoW, a SUB based game. F2P does not bring more of this type of person than P2P does. It's based on whether that type of person plays said game, not whether it's free or not. I've seen plenty of trash talk in ESO on a regular basis. Go spend a while in Stonefalls, Glenumbra or Reaper's March (on one of that zone's Faction characters) and then tell me it doesn't remind you of old Barrens chat half of the day. P2P games don't stop this attitude, nor the elitist attitude, or anything else. Lucky for us in ESO we don't have 'as much' of the undesirables anymore. Note I said anymore because any of you that were around during the launch month know full well how horrible people can be in chat, and every single one of them bought the game (i.e. not free).

The first media story was started by the one guy who both works for the magazine and plays ESO. All the rest were just picked up as a result cuz that's what media does.

Welcome to Zenimax Online Studios PR department. You can pick up your free T-Shirt at the counter over there. There are no talking points and rarely any guidance from management, so you can pretty much say whatever think.

Yep. They will talk when they are ready. Honestly it's one of the things I like about ZOS. They don't say crap until its time. They don't get pressured, they don't get bullied, and they don't cave to rumors. I like that about them.

TLDR: ZOS doesn't do what ZOS does for other people. ZOS does what ZOS does because ZOS is ZOS.

B2P with paid DLC, and NO cash shop would work for me.

Prefer the sub model though, but the soon to be console release may have generated practical issues that are forcing Zeni to ultimately re-think their business model.

There are several versions of B2P on the market.

    GW2 - B2P with cash shop.
TSW - B2P with paid DLC and cash shop. (Sub optional = DLC included)
Destiny - B2P with paid DLC.

An example for DLC in ESO could be new zones.

    Would prefer Sub.
Will keep playing under a B2P/DLC model.
B2P with cash shop or F2P with cash shop is not an option I would consider.
