This was talked a lot when ESO was released...but are there nws about it? Could ZOS say something?
We need the option to use HD TEXTURES if we want. Not by obligation (so please dont start with the "my pc cant handle it).
Just an option that you activate or not.
What about increasing view distance too?

The textures in the game on "high" are HD.

Probably because not even your computer could handle it. 200+ players run in, you're not loading 400-600 2048x+ size textures. Maybe from an SSD, maybe into an SLI pair with 4GB each; but honestly probably not.

To be frank ESO and Planetside 2 are currently the most demanding games that exist and actually the only two the truly justify an Nvidia 9xx card for performance reasons. It's probably possible to do this, but only if there are higher-resolution masters of the textures available. If not, it would take too much time to re-texture everything for ~%2 of the userbase.

View distance, like the fog in Morrowind, is an intended art choice by-design. The world feels larger when you can't see the neighboring geographical landmark. The view distance is tailored just far enough to see the landmark you're visiting and the surrounding vista.

Install Morrowind and the graphics mod and throw the view distance to infinite. Marvel at how cool it is, then realize how much less mysterious reaching the Vivec Cantons would be if you could see them (and Ebonheart, for that matter) from the boat you started on.

You will notice other MMO's have a vast amount of empty space between "nodes" used to achieve the effect of a large world literally by wasting your time traveling it. The only thing they gain is a view of empty hillsides and extra time traversing them.

Higher res textures would do nothing to hamper framerates in Cyrodiil more than they already are. The reason it is so bad is because of CPU overhead and poor use of CPU cores. The textures would just be a matter of loading them into the video memory. I believe the game also has a detail reduction mechanic on other players, further reducing the impact of textures. Most newer video cards are coming with 4GB standard, so higher res texture options would be great.

Also of note; ESO doesn't mirror textures into system RAM like Skyrim did (DX9, I believe), which means the program itself won't crash due to the addressing limitations of 32 bit applications. That should allow it to eat up a lot of VRAM safely.

I fully agree with that sentiment, but higher texture detail options wouldn't kill Cyrodiil performance.

Would be nice to have more detailed textures. I would imagine my cards could handle it. Currently the game only uses a lot of processing power and very little of my video cards' power. :)

yes, the textures would only cause computer lag, not server lag.

Exactly. I really don't see the problem. In fact I think that adding HD textures would please many people and would add new players.

I agree with everything you say about Hi-Res textures, but disagree a bit with this part.

There is a mod out there that completely removes the fog and the mid-far areas look great and doesn't really take away the feeling of largeness or vastness. The problem is it removes the fog covering the horrible distant textures on the mountains, which look like 64*64 textures. Real ugly.

I think the fog can be pushed back a fair bit and still maintain the feeling of vastness they are looking for. Right now it sort of reminds me of Turok Dinosaur Hunter for N64.

That would be a dream come true.. And if I may add, the sky at night needs some more dramatic look.. Planets, stars, auras..

This game has so much potential.

Maybe they can take some of the already available skyrim mods and implement them!

Please zos, make it happen.. I wonder why no one mentioned this before

I would enjoy some of the higher level textures.

Would be nice if there was an option to set texture/game level by area, say set x for the open world, y for in town and z for PVP.

Allow me to add one more thing to the aforementioned. Darker nights!!! Make torches useful.. Imagine the immersion then

As I cited above all the mods for every landscape is already available!!

Morrowind, oblivion, skyrim.. The modders did a SPECTACULAR job and I'm certain they will be honored for zos to use their mods.

Make it happen ZOS. Our New Years/Christmas present!
