My Problems With This Game

I'm finding it a discouraging thing that this game is getting too hard for me to play. I know a lot of you younger people like hard games but can we not have the ability to adjust the difficulty? I'm finding the Main Story too hard for me and I would like the option to go back to the way it was where the Main Story did not level up with you. I like easy games because, quite frankly I just do not have the skill, time or interest in failing over and over again because I don't have the ability to get the things I need despite nicely asking for help. The developers should take into account that not everyone is as good as other people. If I wanted to play a game that is too hard for me to play and causes me to get upset playing it I would have purchased Dark Souls. All I ask for is just for the ability to switch off the Solo Story Mode leveling.

I expected a 3 page wall of text... Try a DK or templar having a tank/heal ability can work wonders, I pretty much leveled my templar using biting jabs the whole way to vet 10.

Also gear gear gear, blue gear is reasonably cheap works out around 400g a piece to buy throw on 120g for vendor enchants and craft it into a nice set http://tamrieljournal.com/crafted-item-sets-eso/

A lot of the 2 trait sets can be done within a day and really improve those stats.

I realized this too, the level scaling can get real difficult, I was using a stamina build Nightblade and I kept dying, over and over.....Here is what I did:

I respecced to all magicka, and leveled a Restoration staff, picked two abilities: Regeneration and Steadfast Ward, and picked up all the passives for that weapon line. I grabbed a 5 pc vr1 warlock set, or a necklace and two rings with all magicka recovery.

I then finished the main quest's and defeated Molag Bal, it was pretty darn easy since I had so much survivability..

The next day I respecced again back to what I wanted and kept playing, because you only have to defeat Molag Bal once..

Back in the day when the darn main quests didn't scale, I could just level past it, now I just Resto staff past it..

Hmm .. I understand frustration .. however, if you really think ESO is too difficult to play, you may need to find another game to play, or develop a strategy to play ESO without getting frustrated.

I really hope they don't make it any easier than it currently is, and I'm not an uber player.

For single player PvE, try a Templar. Blazing shield and the burst heal combined can throw you up to 3200+ effective health at V1 and that makes things a lot easier, if slow. In the long run, they make the most powerful healers in the game. Run five light as a caster at first and transition into healing. Eventually you'll use the healing staff but possibly none of the skills on it.

Now I'm gonna be honest. Many people claimed ESO to be just as easy as other MMOs, yet thats far from the truth. Even if nerfed, this is still the hardest MMO in years.

You want proof for it? Hell just look around people are dying while questing left and right. Even I am dying occasionally if I mess something up, and I've been here since Beta and don't consider myself bad player. In other games you are basically IMMORTAL while questing, you just can't die, not the case with this game.

So if you really want to enjoy this game, accept that you're gonna be dying a lot. And if you're into Veteran Dungeons, the last trial - Sanctum Ophidia, or just Hardmode - Dragonstar arena, expect the hardest group content in the MMO genre. The answer for all this difficulty is simple - smart action combat, sounds much better in theory than tab targetting, however the learning and skill curve is sky high.

This game is incredibly easy... The problem is people dont want to learn how to play and instead pick a incredibly bad build and expect it to work.

Yes, hours reading forums to learn what to do. That will save you days ...
This game is easy once you know what build you need to use to lvl. Once your comfortable, you can start experiencing.

Only problem with VR dungeons are the VR14 players who despite your warning about lower VR in the group (before you invite them at all) leave without a word when the group dies 1 or 2 times. They should add a penalty for non social beheavior :persevere: This makes it hard to find a group to get expierence in vet dungeons by completing them at all.

Luckily after a month i found some players who a just tackle a problem instead of running away.

I really enjoy the basic difficulty level of this game. Sure, some characters have it easier... some harder. My main is a stamina build daggerhappy nightblade, which I found hardest to play of all the ones I made so far. So it took me a few tries sometimes to get past a boss... (or a great many tries in one case) Still happy.

In general, you have to learn your character, learn the combat system - blocking at the right time, interrupting at the right time, dodging at the right time, keeping mobile and running out of the red dangerzones... that helps a LOT.
Keeping your gear decent and at level helps a lot too, wearing sets for the boni helps even more - visit many guild traders often to see what they sell to complete a set for your level.
Also lean your characters abilities, and level more then just your "favorite combination" of skills - you may need to adjust your build for some fights (slotting silver shards when facing daedra or undead, swapping area attacks with others depending on boss fight add appereance, balancing between defensive and offensive skills, choosing the right ultimate, etc.).

Yes, it was much easier when the main story didn't scale. But even so... once you gain some skill in driving your character, you can get past every boss with every character class. Even mannimarco in sancre tor with a nightblade... (though my second one did struggle quite a bit through that one, while my tanky templar roftlstomped him and his ghosts too, at the first try while level 40, while never even needing the healing abilities, thanks nikulas armor set and its spell resistance!)

I think some people are misunderstanding me here. I'm not saying make the game easier for everybody. What I mean is just creating an option within the Options that can turn off the Leveling Solo Dungeons. I much rather liked the way it was before the update and I want it to be like that again in my Solo game. If you like the enemies leveling up with you than by all means leave it as is. You know, if you tell people not to play the game because they changed the mechanics of the difficulty out of the blue and not letting it be customizable that's not good business. Bethesda wants people to pay each month for the servers right? Why make the game hard for potential customers and drive them away? True?

Okay, I'm not a very skilled good gamer (I can't play Mario, I needed to cheat with Sonic 2, I was no good at Pac-man as a child in the 80's, I stink at First Person Shooters, missing targets right in front of my face.) at all but I like playing this game. For me there's just way too much going on around me on the screen for my middle aged eyes to follow. All I ask for is one little option that can be turned on or off as you please.

While I don't think that the game is too hard, I think the scaling of the solo instanced quests in the main story was a terrible move by ZOS. The open world quests and the non-instanced "solo" dungeons don't scale with your character, so a bad build with bad gear, controlled by a person with bad skills, can still make it through by outleveling them. Main story quests are required to progress through the PvE part of the game and should not scale, at least not unless you want them to.

Would the game community at large somehow suffer if the game let some people experience the main story with a character that is slightly overleveled for the more difficult quests? It's not as if beating Mannimarco while you are at a higher level than intended gets you any advantage in the rest of the game.

Heya @Roon72, I'm also a middle aged gamer with middle aged eyes so I have sense where you are coming from. I was already an adult in the 80s and never got the hang of games like Pac Man and I avoided all first person shooter type of games.

I know how to get through the required solo quests in the game on any class and I'll be happy to help you out. Are you on the NA megaserver? If so, feel free to add me to your friend list and we can chat about your set up and if there is something I can help you figure out to do differently to help you get through the nasty content.

That's very sweet of you to offer the help. I do have some multiplayer quests I need to complete, mostly dealing with those annoying Harvesters being monsters in the dungeons, so I do appreciate the assistance of course.

You know, I have no issue with the mobs in the multiplayer being so tough. But the solo quests should be easier than multiplayer because of the lack of including more flesh and blood users. For example, in the Monster Hunter games Offline is easier with the monsters being lower in health than the monsters online because online you have the opportunity to hunt with other people. ESO should adapt this approach as well but with the added option to up the Solo Quest difficulty.

I'm quite happy I finished this content before the scaling happened, but have another character I have started who will experience the scaling.

I wish the best of luck to you. In my first 2 characters I had to outlevel all the main quest's. Although, you will notice in time you become a better player and may be able to beat the content. I wish you the best of luck. I understand what it's like not enjoying a difficult game, I usually turn to guides on the quests to help me figure out how to beat them. As well, try to learn "block" "bash/interrupt" "dodge" as soon as possible (if you don't already). It takes some time to learn these (well, it took me a long time) but they are extremely helpful.

    +1 for optional solo scaling.

    -1 to the harvester's existence.

Not going to tell you to play a different class, but play different abilities. New players I recommend typically getting skilled in sword and board, destruction staff, and restoration staff. If you're an over achiever you can go with a melee as well. You should have one of some combination of both those weapon slotted on either bar so you can work on them. This should give you something close range, distance, and sustainability regardless of class.

For armor, keep a piece of all 3, you probably won't have a 5 piece bonus for all of one type yet, so just work to train them all so you can specialize when you want.

Next, get skills from the fighters guild line ASAP. A lot of them offer great damage, control, and armor against a lot of the enemies in the story quests.

Finally, look for patterns and how to control enemies. If you notice one has a shield and likes to charge after its done blocking, prepare to move and hit em with a heavy attack, stuff like that. Stay out of red and use line of sight to help you.

Now if you still have issues with these core concepts, Google ESO <class> build. They may give you some more insight how your class is played or about how another plays so you can find something to fit your play style.

The way I look at it, they scaled it up across the board to match our level and then as you play live... well, as you end up dead in this instance, then they scale it down for you.

For the solo scaling quests, I make sure to bring some soul gems, & I try to bring my sense of humor.

Then, when I'm obviously about to die I go for TWO THINGS...
make it FUNNY & if possible take some of them with me!
Then there's usually less of them AND the game makes it a little less difficult going forward.
You could even run right at a comedic death as a way to "tell" it you want it scaled down.

also, the other day I leveled up in the middle of an on level delve, & seriously noticed a difference just being that one more level up...
could you start the quest right before you were going to level, maybe?
kill the first few guys and then smooth sailing?

Switching to decent crafted gear and learning a little about various builds has made all the difference for me and yes, I'm a woman "of a certain age." LOL There's just a LOT going on in this game.

But I have to agree that I am massively disappointed in the decision to have the Main Story quests scale to your level with no option to leave it the way it was. Because the truth is, I'm an altoholic and I am BORED with the Main Story! For the love of puppies ZOS STOP forcing me to relive it in time consuming and excruciating detail over and over again! Not unless you're going to ALSO give me the option to kill ALL the Companions! THAT might make it worth it!

I'm just regretting the choice of Lyris Titanborn for the Halls of Torment as she's absolutely useless. I should have gone with Abnur Tharn because of his magic prowess but there again you can't switch out your companion and it would be nice if I could.

I did send an email to Bethesda and they did tell me there is a command prompt where you can send feedback to the Devs so I did send them the request to make Solo Dungeon scaling an optional thing.

While I don't think that the game is too hard, I think the scaling of the solo instanced quests in the main story was a terrible move by ZOS.

Totally agree with Stefan. I like that the game can be difficult. I like that you can die in PvE. I like a challenge. Heck I even liked pre-nerf Doshia who killed me at least 20 times. However I also like choices. If solo instances don't scale you have the choice to do it on hard mode or wait a bit and do it on easy mode. They took away that choice. Talk about bad builds or whatever but you have to face the facts that there are casual gamers with poor builds that that don't read the forums and who will want to play the game but hitting a brick wall will drive them away. Players leaving the game is bad for everyone. Bad move ZOS.

The good news is this is a trivial problem to fix. They have the code for scaled and not scaled versions already. So use them! When you enter a solo instance you get a screen that asks you, "Would you like this instance scaled?"

Problem solved and every single player will be happy.

^ Yes, I was thinking this, that they still retain the coding for the unscaled Solo Dungeons. I don't think you'd need a prompt, just a toggle in the Gameplay Options section.

I've also been thinking about the game and the mechanics of making level appropriate gear. I am beginning to think that these types of games are pretty difficult for a casual gamer like myself. I'm finding it quite hard to create level appropriate gear because I don't know what it is I need to be effective in the game. Just to get an idea the games I play quite regularly are the Pokemon games, Monster Hunter, The Sims 3 and Farmville 2. I am just clueless about the skill trees, and they are vast in this game, for armors and weapons and just what I'd need to create for my character. The problem with this is that there is no way of finding out what you need because you kind of have to find it out for yourself unless you can find someone experienced in MMORPGs that knows and is willing to help you. Just to give you an idea of how confusing this is for a casual gamer like myself, I can look at a website about armors and stuff but unless you give me a grocery list of what I need to make I just shrug and throw up my hands in frustration because it's all too technical for me. You see, I'm well versed in armors having skills. In Monster Hunter it's rather easy to create armor with the skills you want to compliment your playing style and weapon of choice. In ESO there's so many options I just don't know what I need as easily. I don't know what armor and equipment numbers and figures are good numbers and figures. And reading about it confuses me even more. I'd rather prefer someone telling me what I need to make and giving me specific names and how to make it.

My other problem is the difficulty of procuring crafting materials and things to improve your weapons and armors. How in the world can you get dozens of resins or tempering alloys to improve you equipment? You can deconstruct things of the proper color rarity, but procuring them is a difficult thing to do. You need a lot of, say, honing stones to go from white to green. But where in Tamriel can you get dozens and dozens of Green Items to deconstruct? I can never find improvement materials in my Guild stores and if I did some of them don't allow me to withdraw things. In order for me to improve my armor from White to Gold I need the proper improvement materials and I'm just not able to find them.

The question I have and problem I'm having is how do I play the game properly? I want to know what I need specifically because I guess what I have is not good enough even though it is Veteran rank level stuff.

P.S. Just thought of this but sometimes ESO is the equivalent of throwing a new player with a Low Rank Character whose never played Monster Hunter into G Rank immediately with no or inappropriate equipment and having them figure things out on their own. You know, to the Elitists instead of insulting people help them you rude, inconsiderate D-bags.
