So i have been using Restraining Prison since the game came out.

Restraining Prison adds a snare after the root is rolled out of or expires.

Shattering Prison Explodes for damage when it expires or is rolled out of.

I have never tried Shattering Prison. Is the damage worth giving up the snare?

I so know the snare triggers the exploitation passive a second time when the root expires.

From a PVP and PVE perspective, is Shattering Prison worth bothering with? Is the damage good enough to give up a nearly 7 second snare?

Just wondering which is the best morph. Thanks again

"Here in his shrine, that they have forgotten. Here do we toil, that we might remember. By night we reclaim, what by day was stolen. Far from ourselves, he grows ever near to us. Our eyes once were blinded, now through him do we see. Our hands once were idle, now through them does he speak. And when the world shall listen, and when the world shall see, and when the world remembers, that world will cease to be. - Miraak

I can't really say which one is better, although I tried both.
Imo, both morphs don't do that much, so for me only the "prison" itself counts. Pretty helpful when soloing everything and too many enemies are around ;) I think only with one of my mages I use Restraining Prison, the others use Shattering Prison.
But I've noticed that some certain enemies (bloodfiends, f.e.) still jump or run around while prisoned, I think this shouldn't be like that..

It's a root, it does not prevent teleports like ambush or streak.

Exactly, and just because it's a root I don't understand why it doesn't keep the enemies at that spot. No matter if running or teleporting, it should.

The restraining prison snare and shattering prison damage won't proc the blood magic skill.

Both are pretty equal. The snare of restraining prison is a fake snare, and is only good against monsters if you ask me. The reason for using it against players, is not the snare, but the 6 additional seconds, where the Exploit passive gives you 15% more crit against the target.

Shattering prison deals around 240 damage, if your spell damage is high. (Straight damage only though) So imagine a medium armor nuisance, that can roll dodge like 20 times and suffers damage each time, when he rolls out. But encase is simply too expensive to really use that tactic.

You use encase against melee enemies and the range is only 15 meter, so he can simply roll dodge in your direction and will instantly close the gap. If you ask me: Don't waste a point in it for pvp. For PvE, choose restraining prison.
